Nursery renamed my DD

Apparently today at pickup DH was told by the nursery that theyre renaming DD and from now on will call her Boudicca...

For context, she's 14m and the size of an average 8m baby according to the red book, but she is So Feisty.

According to them, she wants to get in the middle of everything, and if someone takes something she's playing with, she doesn't give a monkey's how big or how old they are, she goes and tries to take it off them, and usually manages it.

DH said the keyworker was laughing when she told him, he thought it was hilarious and i do too, I'm proud of my tiny daughter taking no shit, but my mum made a bit of a face and said she thought it was kinda rude of them... i can almost see why? Maybe? But not really. It's not a negative name, and they're not branding her a troublemaker or anything, it just seemed like a joke. I doubt they actually call her Boudicca anyway. I'm overthinking it now.

Get over it.

I feel sad that my DS doesn't have a nickname at nursery now! 😂

Fieldofyellowflowers · 21/01/2021 10:43

It's a nickname. It's not like nursery said "Oh we don't like your daughter's name, we think it's silly. We are going to call her this instead,".

When I was in reception (so 30 years ago) we had two boys named Zach. They both had the same surname initial, so my teacher started calling them Zach-attack and Zaccaroni, which stuck all the way through the school (the boys loved their nicknames). By the time we were at secondary school they were Tac and Roni, which confused the Hell out of all the new teachers and the students from the other primary school 😁

Hi Op @Ohalrightthen

I would see your daughters new Nickname at Nursery as a Compliment,
As Boudicca was a Legendary Female warrior Leader,Queen from Ancient History !

Op
Please Read up and your Mother about the History of this Fiesty Legendary Woman, she is up there in History alongside Queen of Sheba and Cleopatra Queen of Egypt All from Ancient History Times..
Look up on the internet and read up about this famous Character from history !
I would be really Pleased if my daughter had been given that nickname at Nursery !

When your daughter grows up you your will very fond memories of her Nursery affectionate Nick name and her time at Nursery there !

It’s a joke! They used to call my DD “Queen DD” at preschool. It’s an affectionate nickname.

babbaloushka · 21/01/2021 11:40

DH used to call DD2 Genghis because she was so fiesty
**@Lucieintheskye, has she by any chance been watching the Sound of Music?
My Gdd did this at nursery at not quite 3 - complete with the ‘Heil Hitler!’

Luckily, since she was also endlessly singing S of M songs, staff realised where it had come from and just found it hilarious.
What a little performer! Unfortunately my niece isn't quite up to that standard yet, I'll be teaching her some tricks next I see her though!

I have to say, after working in a few nurseries and preschools, if your child is given a nickname like Princess/Prince or Queen, the staff probably think they're spoilt/annoying...

It was genuinely a bit of a joke (I think), as my DD kept asking the teacher what the hoover was and what the mop was etc. And the teacher used to joke with her that she must live in Buckingham Palace, hence the “Queen” joke. (I do have both a mop and a hoover, for the avoidance of doubt - just big ones like they had there!)
