Ds is 2.4. 2 weeks ago I potty trained him only with wees, but he was perfect. Then last week he got dreadful diahorrea so after a day of very pooey pants I put him in disposible pull ups. To start with he would just poo in them, but do all his wees on the potty however now he has gone back to doing everything in the nappy.

We have been to see the dr today who thinks it is probably toddler diahorrea (although we are being referred for blood tests to rule out something else), but she has no idea how long it will go on for. So I need a nappy which can be used as a pull up for if he wants to wee on the potty. I guess an all in one would be best, but if I can get him to do his wees on the potty then one that would normally need a wrap would be ok because i wouldn't need to use a wrap IYSWIM.

I have kushies which are rubbish at the moment because the poo just leaks out the back, and fuzzis which are too big as he has lost a lot of weight. please can people make some suggestions I am happy to buy some new cloth as we don't know how long this will last for and I'm spending £8 every 4 days on nappies and I'm just about to put my first ever full wheely bin out.

Sorry this is so long winded but I feeling really miserable at the moment, just seem to be constantly changing pooey nappies and all our progress with the potty seems to have be in vain.

First don't cry! have a cup of tea and a couple of biscuits.

2.4 is quite young I had a failed potty training attempt with DS1 at that age, and it was a bout of diarhoea on holiday that killed it dead. Success was had at 2.10 in the end.

Might it be better to put him back in nappies for a few months until diarrhoea phase has passed, if he's done it once he'll be able to do it again much quicker?

We did not find pullups a good idea as child basically feels it's a nappy and will use it as such (but you know your child) did you have him in pants to train, so he had obvious puddles? If he has to have a nappy in case of poos won't he use it regardless? If he pulls it down to wee, it will only be one or two dirties a day which is not too bad on the bin.

A shaped nappy (with elastic legs) and sep. wrap is most poo-proof , today has been an example in the slippers house. we use motherease boosted onesize and rikki/airflow wraps not much gets past them.

sorry I've taken so long to type this you probably thought you were being ignored!

Thank you. We went straight to pants so ds got used to having wet trousers if he weed in them. He really liked having pants on and when I had to put him back in nappies he got upset which is why I got the pull up ones as he seemed happier to have those on as he thought they were like pants.

Unfortunatly at the moment he is doing anything between 6-10 poos a day which is why we are getting through so many nappies. Obviously I am changing him after every poo. If he was only pooing a couple of times a day I would just stick with the pants.

He is just really upset at having to go back in nappies (resists having them put on which is why I thought one I could pull up would be good). I agree with you though once he realised he had the nappy on all the time he has figured he might a well wee in it. I did wonder if I used a cloth nappy without a wrap if he might stop weeing in them as they would catch the poo, but any wee would make his trousers wet.

What about some washable trainer pants? Happy Heineys do pocket ones that look like pants and you stuff like pocket nappies so relatively quick to dry if you are getting through loads.

Tutu,

Don't get upset about this - toddler diahorrea (sp??) is awful - my friend's DD had it for a few months.

You could indeed just put him back in your old nappies but if you want to try something inbetween then you need something that pulls up but can be undone when he has a poo. Trainer pants won't work as you have to pull them dpwn and the poo will go all down his legs (I speak from experience here).

Soo...something like Minki Yoyos would do BUT this will cost you loads of dosh as you'll go through 10 a day.

Why not try your idea of the old nappy without a wrap and see if it works.

Hope he's better soon poor love and poor you too - just when you thought pooey nappies were a thing of the past they some back with a vengeance. Stay strong in the face of poo.

tutu100 · 23/10/2007 23:06

Thanks sallyf104 I'm off to look them up now.

Re: trainer pants not working - do have a look at the Happy Heiny as they have poppers on one side that you can undo for messy accidents...
Probably not a cheap answer but I think in a situation like this where you're desperate, anything is worth a go.
Good luck!

tutu100 · 24/10/2007 00:08

I'm trying to keep strong laundrylover it's just hard when you're up to your knees in poop.

Hmmm... swaddlebees can be pulled up, but the other option if it is just for poo could be the trickle free trainers (fuzzi bunz swim nappy) - they are marketted as both a swim nappy and a training pant - don't hold much in the way of wee, but would be snug enough round the legs and bum to stop escaping poo, and they unpopper at the sides.

laundrylover · 24/10/2007 09:57

Flame, they sound just right (you know everything)....are they quite cheap if Tutu had to buy a good load of em?

littlekiwibaby · 24/10/2007 14:04

Aww no advice that hasn't been already given but wanted to send a hug and to say that it will pass. Aww, don't fret.

FlameBat · 24/10/2007 17:30

£7.75 so quite pricey for oodles, but they dry really fast so a day's worth is all that is needed iyswim.

tutu100 · 24/10/2007 23:14

Thank you all. Today he has done 8 poos so I think it is probably just best to give up all hope of potty training (he isn't asking to do any wees on the potty anymore) and go back to cloth nappies for the forseable future.

I've got to say though that £7.75 seems quite cheap for trainer pants compared to some I've looked at. Thank you flame. I'm off to browse bumfluff now, might buy something new and fluffy to cheer myself up.

I'm crap Got my information all mixed up, the trainers are usable as a swim nappy but not the other way round.... I'm doing a fuzzi order in the next couple of days though, so I will get in a load of the training pants too

curlywurlycremeegg · 25/10/2007 09:00

Tutu I have some trickle free trainers in if you are desperate.

Flame have you got the size 2/4 trickle free trainers? these are the ones I would suggest.

FlameBat · 25/10/2007 09:17

They are what I'm going to add to my order (where are you hiding your trickle free trainers Curly - I had a look and couldn't see them because I was going to link to you!)

curlywurlycremeegg · 25/10/2007 10:36

In my stock room haven't got them on the site yet (no idea how I am supossed to sell them like that!!) but do have about 10 in stock. Don't want to spam on here but if tutu wants them let me know and I will email you about them ohh I love these halloween faces

FlameBat · 25/10/2007 10:46

I have bright bots terry squares that I am expecting to magically sell like that

nappyzone · 25/10/2007 12:01

lol - i thought it was only me that sold by the medium of psychic powers!

littlekiwibaby · 25/10/2007 16:46

must be a thing about us nappy sellers / makers lol. just expect things to wrap themselves, pack themselves, and walk to the post office themselves

nappyzone · 25/10/2007 20:54

tutu - hows it going? read your thread. is DS any better or are you still up to your neck in it?

micromummy · 25/10/2007 22:28

tutu if you are still there - hope things are better now. just a thought as you said your little one had lost weight - i don't think this is meant to happen with toddler diarrhoea, is it?? not an expert, but if your ds has lost weight with diarrhoea might yet turn out to be a bug or other such thing and will get better soon? hope so anyway.

tutu100 · 25/10/2007 23:27

Hi everyone. I haven't drowned in poo yet! But I have sent ds off to stay the night with my mum so I can catch up on all the washing etc.

Firstly, Flame I looked on bumfluff and the swim pants sound great but ds would definately need a bigger size even though he's lost weight. Do they come any bigger and am I right in understanding from your later post that the swim nappy and trainer pants are not the same thing? Are they similar in design though because they sound great because of having the side snaps.

Nappy zone and Micromummy, ds is still not great but only 6 poos today which is 3 less than yesterday. The dr is concerned about his weight loss and you're right micromummy if it is toddler diahorrea he shouldn't be loosing weight. He has had some tests done which have shown it isn't a virus or bacterial illness. He is having some blood tests done next week and the dr wants to see him again next week to monitor his weight.

On a funnier note though Dp thinks he can teach ds to poo in the potty this weekend. It would be great if he could do this, but I think he may be overestimating his training abilities. I would find the idea hysterically funny if I knew it wouldn't have to be me cleaning the carpets afterwards.

I'll let you know how he gets on.

FlameInHell · 26/10/2007 08:15

Yup, not the same thing it seems I've got 6 yellow, 1 blue coming in the size 2-4 (quantity restrictions in place at the moment!), and snugglebumnappies has some if you email her

CorrieDale · 26/10/2007 08:47

If it is toddler diarrhea, then we found this page really useful. It cleared up DS's in 48 hours - he had had it for over 2 weeks. And he WAS losing weight (not a huge amount, but he doesn't have any at all to spare, so we were concerned).
