Ds is 2.4. 2 weeks ago I potty trained him only with wees, but he was perfect. Then last week he got dreadful diahorrea so after a day of very pooey pants I put him in disposible pull ups. To start with he would just poo in them, but do all his wees on the potty however now he has gone back to doing everything in the nappy.

We have been to see the dr today who thinks it is probably toddler diahorrea (although we are being referred for blood tests to rule out something else), but she has no idea how long it will go on for. So I need a nappy which can be used as a pull up for if he wants to wee on the potty. I guess an all in one would be best, but if I can get him to do his wees on the potty then one that would normally need a wrap would be ok because i wouldn't need to use a wrap IYSWIM.

I have kushies which are rubbish at the moment because the poo just leaks out the back, and fuzzis which are too big as he has lost a lot of weight. please can people make some suggestions I am happy to buy some new cloth as we don't know how long this will last for and I'm spending £8 every 4 days on nappies and I'm just about to put my first ever full wheely bin out.

Sorry this is so long winded but I feeling really miserable at the moment, just seem to be constantly changing pooey nappies and all our progress with the potty seems to have be in vain.

Thank you for the link CorriDale. We have already stopped given him squash (although it was very very weak what we gave him, just enough to colour the water). This has meant he's not drinking as much as he's not so keen on water ( but he is drinking enough IYSWIM).

We are trying to increase the amount of fat in his diet as he probably does have a low fat diet. This one is a bit trickier as at the moment he has got a very reduced appetite. I'm glad it cleared your ds's up so quickly. That gives me hope.

My ds weighed approx 32lbs he now weighes 29 1/2lbs and in person that looks like a huge difference.

Another update if anyone is interested. Ds is still donig 8+ poos a day. His bottom is so sore that every time we change him he cries and cries in pain (and he seems to have a high paion threshold). I am washing a full load of nappies everyday and desperatly tumbling them to get them dry for the morning so revrting back to cloth probably isn't saving us money nor the environment at the moment.

I'm just really fed up and don't know what to do for the best. I feel really silly getting depressed over poo, but it's been constant poos for nearly 2 weeks now. An d I've got a bad cold and feel really rough, so I'm just feeling very sorry for me and ds at the moment.

Tutu, have you triied silk liners overnight for his sore bottom. During the day I would be tempted to use a barrier such as lansinoh so the loose stools don't even touch his skin.

As much as I love cloth, I would say start using more disposables for the time - if you alternate it gives his skin a bit of a break. If you use a barrier cream when he is in the disposables (I use drapolene because it is an antiseptic too), it will stop the problem that can crop up with diarrhoea where the disposables are too absorbent and it sucks all the liquid from the poo leaving the rest glued on and making him more sore iyswim.

Silk liners are fabulous too - soaked in chamomile tea with a bit of honey (honey can make some children sore though so if it looks worse, take it out again!!!), the chamomile is soothing, the damp liner is cooling, and the honey has healing properties (as does the silk).

CarGirl · 28/10/2007 21:27

there is a bed sore spray you can get - the brand name is sprilon from the pharmacist - it is expensive but prevailed when all else failed on dd2's bottom - plus you spray it on rather than rub it on so less painful. HTH

We had the multiple runny poos (can't spell the d-word!!!) a couple of weeks after ds1 was potty trained and went back to nappies for a couple of weeks. He really regressed as a nappy is for pooing and weeing in but pants aren't. The messy bum lasted about 3 weeks.
I had a ton of cloth nappies, and standard training pants which are not absorbent enough for a whole wee/runny poo. But neither seemed appropriate for encouraging him to use the potty again while giving me non-leak type peace of mind.
So I hand sewed some extra layers of towelling (carefully!) into the training pants. That fooled him, he thought they were pants, ok a bit big and puffed out but close fit at the legs.
They seemed to work as we called them pants, he thought they were pants, I knew they were absorbent enough for toddler wee and poo, and he knew that he should try not to wee or poo in pants.
I am sure these were half the reason he was dry at night so quick too.

Today has been a better day, ds has only done 5 poos so he bottom is looking better, but I have dug out some lasinoh sample sachets I have (thanks for the advice curlywurlycremeegg).

Sadly he is back in the dreaded disposibles. But I'm hoping that as today is the first day in nearly 2 weeks that he has done less than 8 poos and they are starting to have more form (sorry if that's TMI) that things are starting to improve. You have given me hope Flibbertybatsgiblets that when this is all over he will potty train again.

Flame, did you say you should be getting some trickle free trainer pants in? If so I would be interested in a pair if they undo at the sides. I have debated sewing velcro on to the sides of a couple of pair of pants to see if when wearing them ds will use the potty again, and if he poos they will be easy to remove with him laying down.

Yup, I'll have some in the next couple of days, but Curly has them in now (she is selling telepathically )

Sounds like a complete nightmare

curlywurlycremeegg · 29/10/2007 07:48

tutu, yes that's me email me and I can let you know what is in stock (I havn't got round to putting them on the site)

littlekiwibaby · 31/10/2007 15:23

tutu- any improvement today? We're currently dealing with the outflow of half a kilo of green grapes which i know is nowhere near what you've been through but yeurghhhhh.

tutu100 · 31/10/2007 19:59

Thanks for your concern littlekiwibaby,he has been quite abit better today. Today he has done no poos! and I have put him back in pants. He has had several wee accidents though but this evening he put himself on the potty and did a wee all on his own.

My DP is now worrying because he has done no poos today, but I just feel that the amount of poo he has done in the last 2 weeks he can probably go a few days without pooing. However for all I know he night have me up in the night to do a poo and who knows what tomooroow might bring.

I have to take him for a blood test tomorrow to rule out a couple more things, and I'm going to take him to be weighed because he is looking very skinny, but overall I think he is definately getting better.

How are you getting on? Half a kilo of grapes sounds like quite a few nappy changes IME!

littlekiwibaby · 02/11/2007 20:07

I am really happy for you that things seem back on track and don't worry about going a day with no poo. It'll appear when it's ready
How did the blood test go or is there an age wait for results?

The nappies were a disaster for a couple of days but when they want fruit who am I to say no?
Take care and I hope it turns out to have just been a bug and nothing more serious.

tutu100 · 02/11/2007 23:06

Spoke too soon. His tummy is dodgy again but not as bad as before and he is back in pants.

Curlywurlycremeegg if you are reading this I got the trickle free trainers thank you very much. However he pooed in his normal pants today cos the trainer ones were drying, but they will be so much easier to clean him up in if he poos in them.

littlekiwibaby · 03/11/2007 23:43

Have you tried bananas? If he isnt allergic or intolerant or generally dead against them they seem to work on my lot when they're suffering dodgy guts. Could be worth a try?

micromummy · 04/11/2007 01:31

hope very much that things will continue to gradually get better..poor little man

tutu100 · 04/11/2007 07:22

Thanks littlekiwibaby and micromummy. He loves bananas and is a little bit mad for them. We limit him to one or two a day, but yesterday he managed to eat 3 by asking for one at each grandparents house (unknown to me- he's a little monkey cos he knew they wouldn't refuse him!). I too had read that they are supposed to be good for binding your tummy if you've been unwell, doesn't seem to work in his case though.

I am keeping him away from the grapes though, he to would quite happily chomp away on a 1lb of gr4apes if left to his own devices! Hows it all at your house Littlekiwibaby?
