Where did your baby sleep on the day?

We have a one bedroom flat. We have a crib for the bedroom, but I am trying to workout where baby will sleep in the day. People say Moses baskets don't last long? But then Sleepyheads are reccommended by the Lullaby Trust. Second time mums what did you do?

Is the baby box university still a thing? We got this great scandi style baby box, like a huge shoebox with a mattress inside, also filled with some other bits like clothing and muslins. I remember having to do some online quiz which took about 10 mins, then they send you a free box (you pay postage or can collect from certain pickup points).

It was a good size and lasted til prob about 6m or more, but mine was a little baby. By the time they outgrew the box, I could leave her in her room with a monitor, though tbh in our flat I could hear her without the monitor on.

I'll see if I can find the baby box link.

Littlemilkjug · 15/12/2020 22:35

My phone is being painfully slow to open sites, but googling baby box university will give you the link :)

It's also then a useful box to store stuff once the baby outgrows it.

In my arms or a sling until she was about 5 months old. Then she napped in her cot upstairs.

Dd in her cot 😁
Ds on me 🙄

BeautyAndTheBump1 · 15/12/2020 22:43

Sleepyhead on the sofa for the first 3 months. Great space saver!
Also in his graco glider. Slept in his graco glider until around 5.5 months and now he naps in his cot in his bedroom Grin

LaTomatina · 15/12/2020 22:48

Pram.

ChanklyBore · 15/12/2020 22:49

In the baby carrier, but at night slept in Moses basket until was old enough to escape. They do come in different sizes, my 8lb newborn was in there until 7 months when they wen into a cot and looked tiny in the cot (cots also come in different sizes)

yorkshirepuddddiiing · 15/12/2020 22:51

It varied

Pram

Moses basket

Often just lay on the rug with a blanket over them

Hopeful16 · 15/12/2020 22:56

@Littlemilkjug I came on to say Baby box too. They sound terrible but our DC2 loved it. Only stopped using it because he grew too big but was about 6 months. In Scandinavia they use them for all sleeping until they're 1.

Moses basket in living room

NameChange30 · 15/12/2020 22:58

I refused to buy a Moses basket as it seems such a waste of money for something that last such a short time.

If you live in a flat you could get a bedside crib with wheels and just wheel it around, easy enough.

Otherwise pram or travel cot. Both multipurpose so worth the money.

DC2 is currently having most/all of her naps in the pram (whether in or out of the house) not sure what I'm going to do when she outgrows the carrycot Confused Maybe she'll sleep ok in the pushchair too.

With DC1 we did have a sleepyhead for overnight and naps, we just moved it around, but that was before the official advice not to use it for unsupervised sleeping, so we have avoided using it for DC2. We only bought it for DC1 out of desperation when he woke up every time we put him down, it definitely helped. But best to avoid if possible. Luckily DC2 is doing ok without for now touch wood (early days though).

OhIGetItNow · 15/12/2020 23:45

I always put them down in a cot, nap time or night time.
It never occurred to me to do it any differently??

Disappointedkoala · 16/12/2020 00:06

Moses basket - we brought a large one because we knew we'd be having a long big baby
On me/DH
Bouncy chair
On her play mat
In pram
In sling

DD1 did start going in the cot for her first nap from about 3 months but her other naps were where ever I could settle her!

ClaireP20 · 16/12/2020 00:08

In my bed....day and bloody night...x

tiredqueen · 16/12/2020 00:09

On me, in the bouncer chair or in the Pram

serialplanner · 16/12/2020 09:11

@Survivingmy3yearold thank you that pod is far more affordable than the sleepyhead

In order to prevent SIDS, parents these days are advised that babies should be in the same room as an adult for all sleeps, day and night. So you can put them in a cot, but to follow the guidance you'd have to sit there with them during their naps. Not ideal if the only cot is in your bedroom.
Abouttimemum · 16/12/2020 13:48

On me or DH for first couple of months, occasionally in his pram although he is a terrible on the go sleeper and always has been, and then his cot mainly.
He has a two hour nap in his cot now which is glorious.

serialplanner · 16/12/2020 13:49

@FourPlatinumRings yes this is a my problem I need some freedom to be in the kitchen or whatever whilst they sleep.

I think I've settled on a sleep pod because if they are in that I literally will be steps away from them and I'll see if they nap in the pram carry cot but not buying a Moses basket.

Maybe I will magically "sleep when the baby sleeps" and be in the bedroom with them - not🤣

I only ever had my baby sleeping upstairs day and night. I never understood the point or need of a baby having to sleep downstairs during the day. I had a video monitor and checked on my baby regularly. He only ever slept upstairs in the crib and then the cot. I hate Moses baskets so would never ever have or use one. It's different at night when the parent is asleep, but in the day I was always awake and checking regularly, so I didn't see the problem

ScatteredMama82 · 16/12/2020 14:08

Varied really. In swing, in pram, moses basket, travel cot (later on) or often just on a blanket on the floor. I got a baby nest (like a big inflatable ring) for DS2 and he quite liked that too.

Caspianberg · 16/12/2020 14:12

Pram for us or babybjorn bouncer or on us. He has now outgrown the carrycot but still naps in normal part of pram fine.

It’s been the easiest option as pram on wheels so can wheel around where we are, or go out whilst he’s still napping

The sleepyhead type pod on sofa would have been a waste here as he could roll at 2months so wouldn’t have been safe.

LunaLoveFood · 16/12/2020 15:41

My DC were 5lbs 12 and 6lbs and stayed in their Moses basket until about 4.5 months.

Research shows that 70% of SIDS cases occurred when the baby was left to sleep alone. Theories as to why this is vary- some think listening to your breathing helps them regulate theirs while others think that the noise of having you there stops them from falling into a deep sleep- deep sleeps are dangerous for tiny babies. Regardless, monitors don't keep a baby breathing.
