Baby TV (no judgement please)

So I have a 4 month old who has started getting very busy, so much so that one day I tried some baby TV to help settle her whilst I did some housework.
I popped the TV on and put the first kids thing that came up on Prime - Bing.

Why, oh why, oh why did it have to be Bing.
He is a whiny little prick and I have so much pent up anger towards him and the knitted ballsack of a father/carer/social worker.

So here’s my dilemma...DD LOVES bing. Like she is obsessed.
My question is what are the good kids tv programs? Which ones can I gently move her into and away from the annoying bellend black rabbit.

Thanks 🤣

Oh and in the night garden

My first born loved deal or no deal Grin

I guess it was the faces?? Bright boxes? I have no idea but I have a strange fondness for Noel Edmonds now. She doesn't btw.

In the Night Garden is definitely not as annoying as Bing but it makes my brain hurt. It is, however, useful for signalling to DS that it's nearly time for bed and I am very grateful for that. DS also loves a programme about machines on CBeebies; give him a motorcycle to stare at and he's happy.

DD2 is five months and watching a lot of West Wing.

Night garden is great. Although DD1 who's 2 seems to have an optional breakdown at the end every second time.

Cbeebies in general is very good, and very diverse.

whatswithtodaytoday · 12/12/2020 18:57

Oh yes, Tik Tak is lovely.

Littlehouseinthebigcity · 12/12/2020 19:00

Surprised no one has said Peppa Pig yet! My LO has loved her forever (she's only 15 months now so clearly started fairly young) my eldest dd (3) loves it too and I find it quite funny. Hey Duggee is also amazing

DS also loves faces! QI was a big hit for this reason.

🤣🤣 thanks all - I’ll pop some Bach on tomorrow and get her reading Shakespeare pronto.

Or maybe I’ll try some of your suggestions and get on with shit 🤣

@MonkeyBeard I seem to remember come dine with me was also a hit Grin

Bugs band on BabyTv

MyCatShopsAtAldi · 12/12/2020 20:15

Mine really likes Strictly Come Dancing Blush.

But I generally put Little Baby Bum on for him. He also likes it when his older sibling is watching Hey Duggee or Thomas the Tank.

mynameiscalypso · 12/12/2020 20:29

Oh yeah, I'd forgotten about DS' love of Masterchef Australia too. I'd take him out and do something 'fun' and all he really wanted to do was be at home watching it.

Sixtonskip · 12/12/2020 20:32

Hey hear baby sensory are good on YouTube, nice bright colours and happy music. Hey Duggee is the way to go when she's a bit older, it's the best thing on kids TV by miles!

Sunshinehousexo · 12/12/2020 20:38

My eldest has always loved peppa and I can put up with it unlike others. He also likes the coco melon programmes and similar. He likes Bing and I keep letting him watch it in the hope that if we watch it long enough Flop will flip and shout “FOR FUCK SAKE BING!! WOULD YOU USE YOUR LISTENING EARS JUST THIS ONCE!? PUT THAT FUCKING LIGHTER DOWN!! ARSON IS NOT A BING THING!!” And then walk off and crack a beer open. I agree though that Bing is a pain in the arse and I’m sick of watching him break something or piss someone off each episode.

My second born likes Say Yes To The Dress.

pinkpetal2 · 12/12/2020 20:38

Mr tumble

AurorasGingerbreadHouse · 12/12/2020 20:54

Each of mine have watched a fair amount of adult TV too if they woke up at night. Not remotely age appropriate either! I used to do the night feeds to Horror series, Crime or Medical dramas Blush For some reason I felt ok about their being a Gory murder in the background but fast forwarded through the sex scenes. I hope they weren't really watching...

SleepingStandingUp · 12/12/2020 21:05

Tik Tak on CBeebies is quote like the Baby Einstein TV stuff. Very mellow and supposedly helps with development / on this house it's chill TV to send the babies to sleep.

After they've practised their quadratic equations obvs

Another vote for Hey Bear baby sensory on YouTube.

Can I just say how relieved I am to see this thread after some other baby/tv ones I have seen lately, was feeling like a terrible mother...

It's ok, just tell everyone they watch recitals of Shakespeare and then put on Mr Tumble
CountryGirl36 · 13/12/2020 07:37

@Crimblecrumble1990 like @SleepingStandingUp said, just pop on 5 mins max of CBeebies after your Shakespeare, 365 times tables and some light algebra. That’ll make you a less terrible mother then 😏👌🏽

CBeebies does actually do some Shakespeare adaptations. DS was quite into the tempest!

TheVanguardSix · 13/12/2020 08:32

DC3 was always up and at 'em at about 3-4am. It was Yo Gabba Gabba for him. I've never taken magic mushrooms, but I imagine that's what it's like.
The Clangers was also a huge hit. Very peaceful. Again, I was always falling asleep on the sofa to it watching it at some ungodly hour. The Clangers and Twirlywoos! Are they still on?

MummaBear4321 · 13/12/2020 09:11

I hate Bing with a ferocity I didnt know was possible.

We have moved on now to the wiggles on Netflix. My DD is obsessed with them. Also simple songs on YouTube, or hey duggee (which I get more of a kick out of than her to be honest). We generally stick to music and educational songs, which in fairness most kids songs are. As she got older we implemented the rule of no TV til after dinner (6-7 usually, except for bath nights which is 6:30) as we were both using it as a crutch to get through the day. From about 1 year onwards I massively limited it. Before 1 year I used it as a survival technique.

riotlady · 13/12/2020 10:30

I like Puffin Rock and Nelly and Nora on Netflix, they’re both very gentle (and some soothing Irish accents to boot!)

CountryGirl36 · 13/12/2020 10:48

@MummaBear4321 I feel like stabbing him every minute of every day. The hatred is real Grin
