Hi all
My lb is 8
The other night he took himself up to brush his teeth & go to bed i gave him a hug and finished my cuppa.
Then said to my oh, im gona go tuck him in, to which he replied leave him you don’t need to do that he’s 8
What do others do with children of similar age?
My usual routine is to take the up have a hug/ kiss and a little chat then say goodnight

I still tuck in my 13 yr old ds. My dd 16 usually tucks us in! 😆

TheRuleofStix · 11/12/2020 17:37

I’m 49 and my dh comes and tucks me in when I go to bed Grin.

ScrummyDiva2 · 11/12/2020 17:39

Tuck my 11 year old in and have a chat on school nights. More of a routine.

At weekends she is up later so depends if I am available sometimes asleep myself, or watching a film. Sometimes she isn't bothered.

Fizbosshoes · 11/12/2020 17:47

My 11 yo calls from upstairs if we haven't said goodnight to him in his bedroom!

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 11/12/2020 17:50

My oldest is 12 and I still "tuck him in". Your dh is weird. Whats wrong with going to make sure they are in bed and telling them "good night, love you"?

missyB1 · 11/12/2020 17:50

still have to tuck our 12 year old in and give him a kiss.

jackrusselsrule · 11/12/2020 17:51

Still tuck 9 and 12 year old and will continue to do so until they tell me otherwise. 8 is very young still I think

HillaryWhitney · 11/12/2020 17:54

10yr old DS2 gets tucked in every night. When 21yr old DS1 is home from uni I go into his room every night, tuck his duvet in around him (while he ignores me on his x box) and tell him I love him Grin

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 11/12/2020 17:55

I have to go in and kiss and cuddle my 14 year old. Otherwise she gets stroppy with me about it.

Actually she spends most of her life being stroppy with me!

Idroppedthescrewinthetuna · 11/12/2020 17:55

I have a very stroppy 13 year old who thinks I am the naggiest most uncool person to ever walk this planet EVER! But she will not go to sleep until I have gone into her room for a goodnight kiss and hug! (It's my little win after all the eye rolls and sighs)
One night she fell to sleep whilst watching tv in her room, she was actually upset I didn't wake her to say goodnight.

8? You have some years of tucking in yet

Christmasobsessed · 11/12/2020 17:56

Thanks everyone
Il tell oh to do one next time 😅

My 9 year old still has a story.

11 year old Year 7 doenst have a story but does have a tuck in and kiss.

jessstan1 · 11/12/2020 18:00

I hated being 'tucked in' when I was a kid. It took me ages to go to sleep and I would just be getting cosy when my mother would appear and disturb the tranquility. I asked her not to and she got offended.

MrsIronfoundersson · 11/12/2020 18:00

Yup 16 and 12 here, still take them up and have a tidy about the room and a chat.

AdelaideK · 11/12/2020 18:00

I tend to go to bed before my 17 year old. He comes in and says good night and fixes my cover every night Grin

Inastatus · 11/12/2020 18:03

14 year old DS still wants tucking in with a chat and goodnight kiss. 16 year old DD gets a quick goodnight kiss.

DameDaffodil · 11/12/2020 18:16

I still go in to 15 year old DD and give her a goodnight kiss before I go to bed. I wouldn't be able to settle if I didn't check on her!

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 11/12/2020 19:02

11 and still do it every night Smile

Superstardjs · 11/12/2020 19:14

If my 15yo ever goes to bed at the same time or before me, I always do the same routine I did when she was tiny. I am under no illusions that she promptly untucks herself and starts whatever she does other than sleep, but the familiarity and comfort of kisses and cuddles and our sayings is not something she ever rejects, even if she no longer requests it.

CircleofWillis · 12/12/2020 08:18

Is your OH your son's dad? If not I wonder if his thoughts would be different with his own son. 8 is definitely still very little and I think tucking in should continue for as long as the child wants it.

Passthecake30 · 12/12/2020 08:22

11&12 here. I have to sing my dd a song, give her a kiss, turn off the light. For ds, I give him a kiss in his room or he gives me a kiss in mine, then he turns off his own. They stopped giving their dad a kiss goodnight a couple of years ago, strangely.

youwouldthink · 12/12/2020 08:27

DD is almost 17, and go in everynight for a hug and kiss and quick chat, always finish with 'love you'...We lost DH, suddenly, 9 years ago and realise how precious these moments are. Even when she's away will always get a quick message to say night. Carry on tucking your DC those few seconds are fab!

Labobo · 12/12/2020 08:34

I still (sometimes) 'tuck in' DC aged 18 and 19! Just a goodnight kiss and hug and quick chat. Usually I'm in bed before they are and call out for a goodnight hug. So that's them tucking me in, I suppose. What's wrong with hugging the people you love most last thing at night? Never too old for it.

Christmasobsessed · 12/12/2020 08:40

Yes @CircleofWillis
He is his dad
And i will continue until ds asks me not toi lol...
weather he’s 8 or 28😅
