How often do you bath your 2 year old? What's the norm for this age?

Every night unless we're out late or shes skipped her nap and is exhausted. Its part of her bedtime routine plus shes a filthy little beast

DuggeeStickyStick · 03/12/2020 00:02

Every night. Surprised how smelly & sweaty a 2 year old can get!

DappledThings · 03/12/2020 00:06

Every day. Doesn't really need it but the routine works so I'm not messing with it.

Nearly evening before bed. On really tired nights I just top and tail, teeth & bed

ViceVersa · 03/12/2020 00:14

Every night straight after tea usually as she insists of combing her hair repeatedly with her used fork so her hair is covered in food Hmm It’s now become part of the bedtime routine and she really enjoys it.

I have a 7, 5 & 3yo ( and another due) and they bath or shower every night, all together and sometimes me included. At first it was due to routine etc and then it was because they bathed in their dinners and now they just need it anyway tbh. Also they swim in a pool everyday so I like to get the chlorine off them. I don't wash their hair everyday, soap etc, sometimes it's just hot water and a play.

NotDesmondsBoat · 03/12/2020 09:48

Every night.
He's active, messy and has fun. He needs a bath!!!

MoonBaby1 · 03/12/2020 09:51

1-2 times a week. He gets a wet cloth wash every night though.

BertieBotts · 03/12/2020 09:56

Not every day, a few times a week.

We have a sort of formula which is that he has a bath if at least one of the following conditions are met:

  • It's still a good 30-40 mins until bedtime but he's already yawning and pestering for milk
  • He's got absolutely covered in something a face wipe won't touch, or his hair is dirty
  • It's been at least 3-4 days and he hasn't had a bath
DuchenneParent · 03/12/2020 10:05

Usually every night before bed unless she is tired! She likes one and it keeps her crazy hair a bit tamer but the world doesn't end if it gets missed.

TiggeryBear · 03/12/2020 10:35

I have a 4 year old & a 2 year old. They are typically showered most nights as they are a combination of sticky, smelly, covered in food or mud.
I try & make sure they are showered every other night at least.

Welcometonowhere · 03/12/2020 10:37

I bath my baby at night. I do think it’s good for children to be in the habit of a daily bath or shower, it isn’t just hygiene but baths and showers serve other purposes too.

TheyPavedParadise · 03/12/2020 10:40

Every night, just because he enjoys a bath.

Megan2018 · 03/12/2020 10:44

DD 15 months gets a bath after every nursery day aa she gets filthy, unless she is really overtired. On non nursery days I sometimes leave it if she’s not grubby. She does love a bath though. Sometimes they are 5 mins, sometimes 30.
I’d say on average 5 baths every 7 days.

We did 2 baths a week pre-nursery though as she was much cleaner!

agradecida · 03/12/2020 10:50

@Welcometonowhere A bit judgy there! There is absolutely no need to bath/shower a child every day. If you want to, or they enjoy it, or they're very messy every day, then great - crack on.

Mine gets bathed every 2-4 days or whenever needed. It's not good for children with some skin conditions to bathe every day. And not needed for children with no skin issues.

He sleeps brilliantly 11 hrs a night with no fuss going down without having it as part of his routine.

It's only probably within the last 20/ 30 or so years we've had this obsession with showering every day (I do myself!).

HoneyBee03 · 03/12/2020 11:01

I try to bath mine every other night, it's so stressful I couldn't do it daily. He screams the house down the entire time, refuses to let me dry him with a towel and the bathroom is absolutely freezing at this time of year which doesn't help.

Welcometonowhere · 03/12/2020 11:09

I’m not judging agra Hmm

Depending on your baby or child, there can be a need, first of all.

Showers and baths are my solution to life’s problems Smile they warm me when cold and cool me when hot, leave me refreshed, help soothe aches and pains, wake me up or make me drowsy.

It’s something I hope to instil in my own children because it will benefit them. It doesn’t mean I’m judging anyone else.

AWryGiraffe · 03/12/2020 11:52

Twice a week, unless she's particularly grubby. We also use cloth wipes and she gets a good flannel about it she needs it in between.

calimommy · 03/12/2020 17:35

@Welcometonowhere I didn't think it was judgemental at all. This is the same reason mine are bathed every night. They play in the shower or bath, it warms them up, allows them to zone out for a while etc etc. As I said We don't necessarily use soap every time.

Can you not sort some decent heating for the bathroom?
PeacefulInTheDeep · 04/12/2020 00:34

Twice a week here. With the occasional extra thrown in if he's particularly dirty or I want to kill a bit of time in the afternoon.

IdblowJonSnow · 04/12/2020 08:45

Every other night.

Lazypuppy · 04/12/2020 11:15

Normally 2-3 times a week

OverTheRainbow88 · 04/12/2020 11:18

Once a week, if it’s a particularly wet week more often to kill time!

Chocolatechocolatechocolate · 04/12/2020 11:21

Every night for us too. It’s part of his bedtime routine and also the mess he gets into is unbelievable
