I just don't feel ready, but he is.

What age is he?

PolytheneHam · 14/11/2020 23:27

How old is he?

DS is ten months and I've been wondering the same thing. I like him facing me so I can talk to him properly, but he's very interested in the world around him so perhaps I'm being selfish.

LouiseTrees · 14/11/2020 23:30

@PolytheneHam I definitely faced DD put before then. She liked seeing the world too much. I’d say maybe at 8 or 9 months.

I've got a pram where I can rear or forward face. If the seat is forward facing I can't hear what the kids are saying so I usually put it rear facing. I've got a 2.5 year old (and a nearly 4 year old who occasionally go in it). If they want me to turn the seat around they are able to ask me but they don't usually ask. There's no rush to turn them around and rear facing is better for communication.

StormsDontLastForever · 14/11/2020 23:36

About 7/8 months

Gloomandglow · 14/11/2020 23:50

It depended where we were. If it was just me and him then I'd have it facing me so we could see each other but if our with the other DCs and DH he would face outwards so he could see what was going on.

I think this was probably from around age 1sh until he stopped needing the pram.

HotPenguin · 14/11/2020 23:53

From the beginning, although he was lying flat at first so could see me. He didn't spend hours in the pram so I think it was fine. I never knew there was a thing about having them facing you.

Whatsthatspookynoise · 15/11/2020 00:41

@PolytheneHam My baby is 10 months too and he loves looking around. I just worry when I can't see him directly at all times.

MiddlesexGirl · 15/11/2020 00:43

Why would you worry about not seeing his face. You can still see him?

Whatsthatspookynoise · 15/11/2020 00:43

@Gloomandglow

He loves to look at his older brother (9) who's always running about and that's the main reason I wanted to start facing out.

@MiddlesexGirl

At 2.5 when his feet were dragging on the ground in rear facing mode. In our pram (bugaboo bee) there’s only a footrest on the outward facing side. He much preferred facing us.

Itllbeaninterestingchristmas · 15/11/2020 03:23

3 months because the double is only outward facing. If I’m using the single parent facing.

JumpingJamboree · 15/11/2020 04:02

From 5 months but I still switch it about. If we are just plodding around town or in a restaurant then I have her facing me. If we are going for a nice walk with lots to see then I put her facing out.
I know what you mean though, I much prefer it when I can see her but she much prefers to be nosey and look everywhere. I compromise and have the hood pulled all the way back when she is facing out so that at least I can see the top of her head.

IHateCoronavirus · 15/11/2020 04:39

I’m in the parent facing always camp. They can still see the world whilst facing you, but you face the added bonus of seeing what it is they are looking at/focussing on so you can talk to them about it and help develop their vocabulary. (Early years teacher, so my opinion might be skewed by the increasing number of children who start school with underdeveloped language and communication skills).

Nat6999 · 15/11/2020 04:47

Ds front faced from birth as I had a Britax travel system that only front faced & a MacLaren buggy from 3 months. The Britain had a window in the hood so I could keep an eye on him.

whoami24601 · 15/11/2020 05:48

DC3 is 2 and still rear facing. I keep thinking I should swap him but I only really use the buggy when there's 2 of us so I like to be able to chat to him! Didn't have a pram that had a rear facing option for the other two DC and I got one that was talking in full sentences at 18mo and one that was an elective mute until About 4 !

spidermomma · 15/11/2020 06:14

My DS is 10mo also. He was front facing in a buggy from about 3/4 months. This was because he could sit up an he was super nosey! Don't hear a peep if I'm out and he's in the buggy. The big pram didn't last long at All for him. X

atvh · 15/11/2020 06:18

I have the Bugaboo Bee 5 and there’s a footrest for both front and rear facing.

Mybobowler · 15/11/2020 06:58

About 7 months. It was only because I bought a new pram that only faced out, and I slightly regretted it to be honest. I missed chatting and playing with her, and our walks to the shops became very boring (for me anyway). There's no rush!

polkadotpixie · 15/11/2020 07:10

I still have my 2 year old rear facing, we can talk to each other and he seems happy enough, he doesn't know there's an alternative anyway 😂

Huh? We’ve got the bee 5 and there’s only a footrest on one side...see pic.

Bromeliad · 15/11/2020 07:19

8 months with the first and 6 with the second. Both screamed their heads off the whole time in parent facing mode and in the bassinet.

My second is a lockdown baby and we've been in local lockdown since July. I ended up in tears that I couldn't the leave the house with her in the buggy for ages because she just screamed and my back was too bad for the carrier. I was really stressed that my toddler couldn't see anyone and that was screwing up her social development. But now I've apparently screwed up her language development instead so that's something else to worry about.

user159 · 15/11/2020 07:22

Depends on what we are doing. Shopping (pre March!) or anywhere busy I'd always have DD having me. Walks with friends and things like that I'd face her out. She's nearly two now so mainly forward faces.

ShyTown · 15/11/2020 07:23

3/4 months. We have a YoYo so it’s forward facing only after the newborn stage. Never thought much about it tbh especially as most people we know have the same stroller.
