[quote PrayingandHoping]@Ohalrightthen I interact with her a lot out the pram thanks 👍

My baby can see loads when parents facing. Maybe it's the design of some prams. She's very nosey but also likes to chat.

It really is the same amount of view just 180 degrees backwards. No idea why people think they can see more forwards. Mine can see the world go by facing backwards.

Maybe it's more about being able to see where you're going, then, as my DD has always hated going backwards in the pram.

I have nothing against parent facing, we mostly did it until probably about 1 or 1.5, but I don't see how this can possibly be true unless the person pushing the pram is transparent?

I also think - and again I'm thinking primarily here about an older child, who you can have more of a conversation with - that it does actually make a difference to be looking at the same thing. On the walk home from nursery now DS and I hunt for the moon etc which we couldn't do if we were looking in different directions.

I think about 8 months. She kept craning to try to look at things out the side of her pushchair, and wanted to look at anything that wasn't me. She's much happier facing forward. Only time will tell to see if I've buggered up her language development as a result.

OverTheRainbow88 · 15/11/2020 09:15

Also it’s not all or nothing.

Some trips could face out- like at the zoo

It want to nap would face in... or in a busy shop if I don’t want others to feel the need to touch my kids hands which they do often want to do

crazycatlady7 · 15/11/2020 09:18

I mix it, depending what we are doing, if we are at a park usually forward facing so he can watch the world, in town facing me, as I talk to him loads about what we are doing... so better for communicating. If he's tired facing me.

My mum likes him facing her so they can chat.

I don't think my son is bothered really. He's a year old.

JanewaysBun · 15/11/2020 09:44

Both are still RF as it's easier to push the icandy peach double with them In this formation lol

BendingSpoons · 15/11/2020 09:47

@Hardbackwriter DD had a rear facing car seat until nearly 4. We had some frustrating conversations where she would ask what something was and I had no idea what she was looking at! Also she would ask if we were turning left or right, which I struggled to answer, as my left was her right.

Thanks to those who mentioned object permanence. That was what I couldn't remember when I posted before. I don't fully understand this though, as children under 1 are in rear facing car seats and usually left alone in cots. I don't really see why buggies are different. Is it that there is more going on, so they might need more reassurance from parents? I feel for some children it can be argued the other way, that there is lots to distract them and feeling abandoned in a car seat or cot is scarier.

I think it's lovely when parents and children are enjoying parent facing, but when children are keen to be forward facing that is fine!

GrumpyHoonMain · 15/11/2020 10:03

DS is 11 months and still rear facing. I don’t see that changing ever - I prefer it because it means I can keep an eye on him and talk to him

Ohalrightthen · 15/11/2020 10:11

@BendingSpoons the PP who said object permanence is 12 months was wrong though, it's usually 6 months.

nancybotwinbloom · 15/11/2020 10:13

I thin in it was when she could sit up and wanted to look around. I can't remember but I think it was about eight months maybe

I think you'll find that pretty soon he'll have his own views on what he prefers that may or may not coincide with yours!

Parent facing in the lightweight pushchair we use most of the time (goes in the boot and can be stored at nursery) but world facing in the off road running buggy. She's 16 months.

I prefer parent facing and she hasn't shown any preference either way. If she starts complaining, I can turn it to world facing (old bugaboo bee). I particularly like to chat on the way back from nursery.

MiddlesexGirl · 15/11/2020 12:48

Am I the only one that chatted to my dc when they were front facing?
Surely it's actually easier because you can both see the same things. Eg I can see something and draw my dc's attention to it. Much more difficulty if they're facing the opposite way.
Anyway, I didnt have much choice as I had two in a double buggy most of the time and they didn't rear face when mine were little.

AegonT · 15/11/2020 17:10

When she was 2. She could talk well in full sentences then so I thought the benefit of facing us to talk wasn't as important. She went in a forward facing double buggy at her childminders house from 8 months old.

ClaireP20 · 15/11/2020 17:16

I changed my oldest 2 round at around a year or just over. My youngest is 9 months and absolutely not yet!! I love looking at him too much and being able to talk to him.

Whatsthatspookynoise · 16/11/2020 16:55

I feel more confident seeing so many different replies. It goes to show no baby is the same and no parents are the same. I think I should turn him out when we go for walks and maybe just face me if we go shopping so we can chat.

16m and rear facing here. The pram changes easily from FF to RF however I just love looking at her and chatting when we go for a walk! Not sure I'd hear her very well if she was FF as she does like to point stuff out!
