Cradle cap - wait it out?

Anyone have any luck waiting out cradle cap rather than treating it? Tried rapeseed oil on the advice of the pharmacist (who is a bit useless imho Hmm ) but it made it SO MUCH WORSE!! Grr Angry . Now a bit reluctant to mess with it but I noticed this morning that the cradle cap seems to be escaping his hairline and marching towards his eyebrows now Confused . If you did let it resolve in its own time, roughly how long did it take? DS is 3 months old, had it for about a month I reckon ...

Coconut oil, leave a little while then brush off - I used a tangle teezer brush. I backcombed! I left dd1 and hers stayed for ages. With dd2 I did coconut oil and brush and it was sorted in a couple of hours.

MissBPotter · 19/10/2020 16:16

Coconut oil really helped with dd2. Its really gentle. I wouldn’t use rapeseed oil on a baby as it is usually highly processed and potentially inflammatory when eaten, so wouldn’t put on skin either.

I’m invested in this after randomly clicking on the thread and really want to hear how it goes OP — hoping for a satisfying conclusion where it all suddenly comes off Grin

A rough flannel and some olive oil did the trick for us.. don’t pick

Littlefrog99 · 19/10/2020 17:05

Try a pourty cradle cap brush (about a fiver from Amazon). I'd been battling DD's cradle cap for about a year and wish I'd tried it sooner.

Caspianberg · 19/10/2020 19:22

Burts bees baby oil. Leave few hours. Rub with a flannel and baby brush. Wash as usual with weleda baby shampoo. Repeat few days later if needed.
Mind also had on eye brows and it was off after a few days of just above

Franticbutterfly · 19/10/2020 20:13

I used the finest bit of dentinox shampoo every day in the bath, none of mine got it.

Drogonssmile · 19/10/2020 20:19

Coconut oil is brilliant. Used with DS2 and his went within 24 hours. Never used with DS1 and he still has some at age 7! He won't let me pick it off 😡

edin16 · 19/10/2020 20:28

I use kokoso happy scalp cream. Put it on the day before his bath and the morning of, then wash his hair and use a soft Terry wipe to give it a rub. It flakes off!

Flyguy2019 · 19/10/2020 20:34

Hi OP, in the end I literally did nothing with my LB. He had it and not a massively severe case but I tried everything that was suggested and nothing took it away. I left it on its on and by the time he was round 4 months it had disappeared. Due baby number 2 in March and if this LO has it then I will leave alone from the beginning x

AIMD · 19/10/2020 20:40

I used a nittygritty comb (one used for treating nits) and brushed through my kids hair when it was wet/softened. That comb seemed to pull it all.

I’m kinda jealous. I loved working on my kids cradle cap...so satisfying Grin

I did baby oil and a soft brush. It took awhile but it went eventually, but it has come back a little. Worth keeping in mind it can come and go up to 18 months old apparently.
lambo88 · 19/10/2020 20:49

Our little boy is 2 and still has his...when he was a baby we used Vaseline and left it over night and brushed it off...we've tried it again but it takes days for the Vaseline to go out of his haif and it just looks a greasy mess...not sure what to do with it xx

Botherfreedays · 19/10/2020 20:54

We used weleda calandula baby oil. Left it on then washed with a flannel and it all came off with a gentle rub.

camelfinger · 19/10/2020 20:57

We left it au naturel for Firstborn, didn’t want to use chemicals and was reliably informed it would just go away. It stayed for years. For DC2 I used Dentinox and it went pretty much instantly.

kwaziseyepatch · 19/10/2020 20:57

We had it bad with DS a few months ago, he had so much hair we didn't notice until it was too late. Removed it by softening and nitty gritty comb, very satisfying but red scalp underneath so quite distressing! It has partly returned
Tried everything, every oil every shampoo. In the end the only thing that's working is coconut oil, brush out before weleda shampoo and rinse. Only rinsing hair with water in between. Any shampooing without the oil treatment just leads to very dry skin which then turns into cradle cap. It's still a bit dry so do some dry combing now and then. Good luck

kwaziseyepatch · 19/10/2020 20:58

Ps love the phrase 'marching towards his eyebrows' Grin

PerditaNitt · 19/10/2020 21:03

Dentinox worked for my DS, plus it smells like roses (very mild smell) so was lovely to use. I only needed to use it for two weeks to get rid of most of the cradle cap and then once a week or so keep it at bay. Easier than faffing with oils, etc.

QueenofLean · 19/10/2020 21:06

DC1... tried all the oil/brushing stuff. Massive faff and took months to disappear.
DC2... used dentinox twice and it was all gone, never to return.

Trinpy · 19/10/2020 21:15

I tried all the oils and brushing stuff with dc1 and it didn't make any difference, he just looked very greasy Grin. I ended up leaving it and it finally went by itself - 6 years later Hmm.

With dc2 I went straight in with dentinox and pouty brush and it went in no time. It did come back a little bit and he's still picking out bits from his hair, aged 4.

Trinpy · 19/10/2020 21:16

*pourty brush

MarjorytheTrashHeap · 19/10/2020 21:17

My DD had it for over a year I think but I just left it and it eventually went away by itself. It never seemed to bother her though or I might have tried to do something about it.

ZooKeeper19 · 19/10/2020 22:16

@YawnyOwl Dentinox shampoo cleared it in 5 days. Never returned.

Hercwasonaroll · 19/10/2020 22:18

Oil and brushing here. I used a comb on my 2yo as it would come off better. Olive oil worked best.

Hercwasonaroll · 19/10/2020 22:18

I found the shampoo useless, sorry shampoo lovers.
