My little one is 7months and wears prewalkers now and then. What age do you get their feet measured for their first pair of proper shoes?

Not until they start walking no need for proper shoes until then

PaddyF0dder · 04/10/2020 20:17

When they’re walking.

InDubiousBattle · 04/10/2020 20:17

Around 9 months ish because that was when they started to walk.

Mine didn't wear shoes until they started walking. No point spending money before you have to; you'll be buying shoes, and wellies, and plimsolls, and football boots, and dancing shoes and, and... for years!

skippy67 · 04/10/2020 20:18

When they're walking.

Parker231 · 04/10/2020 20:18

Mine didn’t wear shoes until they could walk properly outside. They didn’t wear shoes indoors. I think they were 12-14 months.

BiBabbles · 04/10/2020 20:18

When they were walking well enough to walking outside, which for mine was about 15-18 months.

CrotchetyQuaver · 04/10/2020 20:20

It's when they're walking but they must be walking confidently, not using their toes a bit like claws to help grip and stay upright. Once they've stopped doing that then they're good for shoes.

RandomMess · 04/10/2020 20:21

Walking properly for 6-8 weeks but my consultant said that pre walkers/cruisers or doodles are far better for their feet than "proper" shoes plus much cheaper!

One of one didn't take her first steps until 17 months...

Changethetoner · 04/10/2020 20:21

A few weeks after they've been walking properly, and when you want them to walk outside. My child walked at 13months, so it was a few weeks after that.

Ginfordinner · 04/10/2020 20:22

Around 9 months ish

No

when they started to walk.

Yes.

Nine months is very early to start walking.

The advice is to wait until they have been walking confidently unaided for about 6 weeks. DD was 19 months before she got her first proper pair of shoes.

eurochick · 04/10/2020 20:24

Mine was about 15 months - when she was walking fairly confidently.

BikeRunSki · 04/10/2020 20:24

When they have been walking for a month

SoUtterlyGroundDown · 04/10/2020 20:24

When they’d been walking confidently for about 4-6 weeks, so around 13 months for all of mine.

Mmsnet101 · 04/10/2020 20:25

When they can confidently take at least 10 steps without falling etc and walking properly with full foot to ground etc. which for my lo was 9 months as she was a really early walker. £30 in the sale and they lasted 5 weeks before her shoe size went up Shock

Lemondrops41 · 04/10/2020 20:28

I was told to wait until baby has been walking for six weeks and then shoes should only be worn outdoors and in public places, otherwise they should be in bare feet until they get used to walking properly.

My baby has just started walking at 16 months so I'm planning just to get boots for outdoors as that's the only place we go at the moment!

AnnaSW1 · 04/10/2020 20:28

whenever they are ready to walk outside ie are already walking inside

Indoctro · 04/10/2020 20:31

Once they are confidently walking around the house and ready to head outside.

First child was 13 months and 2nd child about 14 months

Sausagis · 04/10/2020 20:31

When they are walking outside.

At the toddling inside stage you just need those soft leather jobbies you can buy in ages (12-18 etc) off the 'net.

BikeRunSki · 04/10/2020 20:36

When they have been walking for a month

In ds’s case he was 13 months old when he started walking, dd was 10 months. My HV (who I respected and trusted) advised letting them walk barefoot as much as possible for a month, with slipper socks or wellies if needed, as feet develop and grow very quickly once the child starts walking.

Spudlet · 04/10/2020 20:41

DS was about 17-ish months old - he was a fairly late walker. He had a little pair of soft moccasins for before then, when he was cruising, then a pair of equally soft little pram shoes for when he wanted to walk outside. Once he was happy doing a lap of the garden unassisted we got his feet properly measured and he had his first shoes.

No rush anyway - DS is now nearly five and has certainly made up for his late walking start - both in mileage and shoe costs...!

StellaGib · 04/10/2020 20:46

I got mine shoes once they were walking outside, so about 11-12 months.

DappledThings · 04/10/2020 20:47

Once they've been walking about a month as everyone else said. So in my case 17 and 22 months. I saved loads of money on shoes because of their reluctance to get on their feet! Smile

Lazypuppy · 04/10/2020 20:48

When they are walking.

For my dd that was 16 months when she started walking and we went to get her measured

MushMonster · 04/10/2020 20:49

I did not do it till she was walking stable enough to walk outside, so I was walking her holding her hands in the park. Around the 12 months.
