What do you do with baby whilst you shower ?

Probably silly question but I am a ftm . My daughter is 5 weeks old and my husband works very late shifts , and I like to be showered and ready for bed to wind down with my little girl before DH gets home , but I’ve been waiting til my husband comes home and he often finds it a bit inconvenient (understandably) because he’s been out 15 hours and wants to get ready for bed himself . Is it ok to leave a newborn / infant in their cot whilst you shower ? Not sure how I stand if she cries and I’m in the shower and don’t hear her as I know letting them cry it out isn’t ideal at that age.
Thank you

I had a baby seat that I would bring into the bathroom with me.

Knittedfairies · 01/10/2020 19:23

I took mine into the bathroom with me.

BumpLoading · 01/10/2020 19:23

I would leave my baby to shower at that age when he was asleep in his cot, but would shower very quickly as I kept thinking I heard him cry (even though he didn't even wake)
I know the rule are keep the baby with you when they nap but for a quick shower I think its fine Smile

Goodness, yes. She'll be grand.

If she's big enough, the other thing you can do is put her in her bouncer or carrycot on the bathroom floor. DS graduated from being plonked in crib across the landing with both doors open to being sat in his sit-me-up at about three months, but he had ridiculously early head control.

HelloViroids · 01/10/2020 19:23

I put the Moses basket on the bathroom floor.

RemyHadley · 01/10/2020 19:24

One of those bouncy chairs, in the bathroom with you

BruceAndMarley · 01/10/2020 19:24

Thanks ladies :)

Pop her in the bouncer in the bathroom and sing to her whilst showering 😂

BruceAndMarley · 01/10/2020 19:24

Mine is 5 months now so will play by himself whilst I get up and ready for the day, but when he was little I used to put him in a bouncy chair and bring him into the bathroom with me.

If you mean that she’s in her cot already when you want to shower (presumably asleep) then I’d leave her in there for the 10 mins or so it takes me and bring the monitor in with me.

TheLastStarfighter · 01/10/2020 19:25

She should be perfectly fine in her cot while you shower. Although when mine were little I used to bring their bouncy-chair into the bathroom.

But would your husband really not want a cuddle with his daughter when he gets home, regardless of how long his shift was?

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 01/10/2020 19:26

Also bouncy chair in the bathroom with all of mine. They all loved it & it was great if when they had a cold too (because of the steam).

Hardbackwriter · 01/10/2020 19:26

I used to put mine in the bouncer on the bathroom floor so that I could see him, talk to him, etc while I showered - unless he was asleep in which case I just left him in his cot. 'Cry it out' isn't good for a little baby (I don't think that just being left to cry completely alone is nice for any age, really) but crying for two minutes while mum gets out of the shower, dries off quickly and comes into you isn't 'cry it out' - I just used to leave the bathroom door open so that I would hear if he cried. I might not have heard him if he cried exactly when I was washing my hair but, again, that would have only been a couple of minutes at most.

Incrediblytired · 01/10/2020 19:26

I used the wedge the bouncy chair in my tiny bathroom. She screamed Sometimes but I was clean and I cannot function without a wash.

GeorginaTheGiant · 01/10/2020 19:26

Another vote for bouncer chair in the bathroom. We kept one in there so there was always somewhere to plonk baby while showering, using the loo, brushing older child’s teeth etc.

IWantT0BreakFree · 01/10/2020 19:27

I used to take the bouncer in the bathroom too. Mine loved it. I usec to put some music on and talk to them or let them nap if it was naptime.

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 01/10/2020 19:27

I used to take mine in the shower with me Smile

Start taking her in the shower with you so she gets used to it from a young age and life gets much easier when they are bigger and start getting separation anxiety etc.

Also makes life easier going swimming etc and doesn't kill your back like putting them in the bath Smile

VirginiaWolverine · 01/10/2020 19:34

Bouncy chair in the bathroom, but make sure you keep it away from any radiator you might gave in there. I have a tiny bathroom and baby DS got a nasty burn because he didn't realise that the sensation of very hot radiator would lead to burning.

WildCherryBlossom · 01/10/2020 19:35

Mine were in a bouncer in the bathroom too.

Rainb0wDrops · 01/10/2020 19:40

I generally took the Moses basket in to the bathroom but if they're safely in their cot you're fine to leave them for a 5 minute shower.

Tangfastica · 01/10/2020 19:42

I’ve been waiting til my husband comes home and he often finds it a bit inconvenient (understandably) because he’s been out 15 hours and wants to get ready for bed himself
So it's ok for your DH to get ready for bed but not you?Hmm Inconvenient?!?!?! What about your needs?!

PrincesseDeLamballe · 01/10/2020 19:42

I used a bouncy chair, bought it into the bathroom with me. Worked fine.Smile

Tangfastica · 01/10/2020 19:43

If he's back he can have the baby for 20/30 mins, no issues!!!!
