I have offered her a sticker, choc buttons (her fav) nothing.

What can I do?

Ignore her

notnowbernard · 09/10/2007 19:16

Sorry, that was a bit abrupt!

Ignore the fact that she needs the toilet

drosophila · 09/10/2007 19:18

that's why I'm up here on MN. .

I hate Potty Training.

yes ignore here. You can't force her to sit on the potty.

notnowbernard · 09/10/2007 19:20

God, so do I!

(Is done now, but can say with certainty dd2 will be ripping her own nappy off before she even sets eyes on a potty)

belgo · 09/10/2007 19:20

potty training is so much less stressful when you have a wipe clean sofa and no carpets

flamingtoaster · 09/10/2007 19:21

If she is that insistant I would offer her a nappy and abandon potty training until she wants to do it. I waited until both DS and DD wanted to do it - one accident each and much better bladder control than those who were "trained".

BettyBatShapedSpaghetti · 09/10/2007 19:25

DS was a reluctant potty/toilet user in the beginning but persevering with the sticker chart and making a really big OTT fuss when he sat on it worked.

I was so relieved when I no longer had to fake the "oh you clever boy , you sat on the potty, aren't you good, well done...blah blah blah.."

notnowbernard · 09/10/2007 19:28

The beginning was great... responded well to all the OTT whooping, novelty of potty, not wearing nappies anymore etc etc...

Was a month or so later it all became a bit of a nause. Trying to hold it in FOREVER, not being bothered to go, too distracted etc.

drosophila · 09/10/2007 19:29

She is beside herself. Tears running down her face crossing her legs. Not sure if it is poo or wee that needs to come out.

She will be 3 in Jan so thought we should do it. started on Friday and have had a few successes and quite a few failures. In nursery she will sit for them. Funny that.

Stickers not working.

Does she ever take herself to the toilet without any prompting?

drosophila · 09/10/2007 19:34

Well a couple of days ago she kept asking to go on potty for fun think but then yesterday she did a big poo in it and I think she didn't like doing it. It was a bit hard due to post viral constipation.

I suspect potties are not that comfy are they?

drosophila · 09/10/2007 19:34

Sorry didn't answer properly. Kind of but not very clear.

duplo fire engine

drosophila · 09/10/2007 19:36

So anyone else think I should put a nappy on her?

She is screaming still.

mazzystar · 09/10/2007 19:37

also agree potties not comfy - have you tried the loo

mazzystar · 09/10/2007 19:37

if v upset, yes i'd give her a nappy

notnowbernard · 09/10/2007 19:39

Def nappy, especially as she might be constipated... if she's more relaxed she'll be less likely to hold it in.

CarGirl · 09/10/2007 19:40

absolutely give her a nappy

BettyBatShapedSpaghetti · 09/10/2007 19:42

Move on to using the toilet instead -might be more comfortable? If you haven't got a training seat yet maybe let her choose one.

BettyBatShapedSpaghetti · 09/10/2007 19:43

My last post refers to the way forward not the poo she needs to do now (I'm not expecting her to hold on until you can go shopping! )

wheelybug · 09/10/2007 19:47

My dd is 3 in January too - she was exactly like this when I tried to train her - could hold it and knew when she needed to go but just wouldn't use potty or toilet. I gave up - she still now says she doesn't want to use the potty although I haven't tried properly again yet. Have tried star charts, chocolate/sweet bribes, presents, special pants (fifi, peppa, fairies, disney princess, angelina ballerina). Nothing will make her sit on a potty or toilet.

Am just praying she'll decide one day to do it and she won't be 10 !!

drosophila · 09/10/2007 20:20

Well it was a wee that ended up all over the floor. DP was with her as I was here on MN. She asked to use potty with 1 sec to spare and he thought what is the point he would never ger her on it in time. Wee everywhere. She wears a nappy in bed so now she is bed with nappy.

What to do tomorrow???

OP posts:
CarGirl · 09/10/2007 20:22

I would just put her back in nappies (cloth at that - if she's used to disposables that in itself may encourage her to use the loo) she will give them up when she's ready.

drosophila · 09/10/2007 20:24

Have you ever seen those training pants. They are terry lines nylon knickers. Saw them in shop the other day and contemplated it.

I HATE toilet training. Yo unever know what to do and you get this pressure from MIL and granny etc to train....
