If so, how much and from what sort of drinking vessel?

Yes, as does my 4.5 year old!
An Ikea "doggy cup", nearly full.
I expect to go into their rooms one morning and find dairy cows in place of my children. They'd drink gallons of the stuff if I let them!

Pob13 · 14/09/2020 20:45

My nearly 2year old has a full bottle at bed and about half a bottle in the morning. He wouldnt drink as much out of a cup and he's not great at drinking water so I figure whatever liquid I can get in him is better than none.
I do keep thinking about trying to drop it or changing to a cup.

Kaktus · 14/09/2020 20:46

Yes although he’s not quite two. He has it out of a cup.
7 and 5 year olds often have a cup of milk before bed too.

My daughter breastfed before bed until 3.5.

Natural weaning age is 3-4ish so I figure kids are intended to have bedtime milk (or some point in the day milk) until that age.

PeacefulInTheDeep · 14/09/2020 20:57

Yep. In a 360 cup (tall one), half-filled. Sometimes he finishes it and asks for more, and on other days he barely touches it. He has it after dinner but before we go upstairs for bedtime.

orangedrizzle · 14/09/2020 21:00

Thanks. We are trying to wean our newly turned 2yo off his bottle and failing miserably. He just won't drink it from a cup. Apparently we should have done it ages ago but it's one of those things we've just let slip. He had about quarter of his normal amount in a cup today but just refused anymore 🤦‍♀️

Yes. Normally a full bottle(!) and sometimes more again. He has milk in the morning as well, we're starting to transition this to a beaker with a free flow spout.

zebrapig · 14/09/2020 21:02

@orangedrizzle DS is 3 in December and still has a bottle! He has a dummy too Confused

mynameisigglepiggle · 14/09/2020 21:04

My youngest was 3 in May. Still has bedtime milk in a bottle and in the morning. He will give it up when he's ready. I'm not going to lose sleep about it 😊

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 14/09/2020 21:04

My 16 and 13 year olds still have milk before bed most nights! With cinnamon and honey.

CantKeepSecrets · 14/09/2020 21:05

No , if we can get him to drink it it's mostly in a cup with dinner but if he did want it at bedtime I would give him it.

I don't see a problem with it at all , if I waned a glass of milk before bed that would be fine. I guess getting him off a bottle would be ideal but not the end of the world as I can't imagine he'll still be on a bottle forever.

butterflycatcher · 14/09/2020 21:07

We switched from bottle to straw cup at 18 months and I thought it was going to be impossible but he did it without fuss. By 20 months he was no longer interested in having milk at all at home and now only has what the nursery give him. I guess the milk had become more about the comfort of the bottle than the drink itself.

Tootletum · 14/09/2020 21:09

@AyDeeAitchDee oh god really, 3-4 ?? I am so desperate to stop breastfeeding my 2. 5 year old!! Still hoping she'll lose interest on her own...

Someaddedsugar · 14/09/2020 21:13

@orangedrizzle and @zebrapig this was us - DS (almost 3) would only drink his milk from a bottle and refused a cup. I read another thread on here where a poster advised the OP that their DC wanted the comfort from the bottle rather than the milk, as if they'd wanted the milk they'd use a cup or a different bottle etc.

Since reading that I moved milk time to about half an hour before bath time and in the space of a week we've got rid of the bottle completely, and in a few weeks I'll introduce a cup of milk to see if he fancies that. He does still have milk on his cereal etc to make sure he gets the nutrition. I've also noticed his appetite is much bigger and he's eating more fruit and veg over the last few days so hopefully it's a win win!

I think it differs.

But I was only able to keep going so long because I literally cut the feeds down to only first thing at morning and last thing at night and only 5 minutes a feed.

No falling asleep on me etc.

We had such a struggle getting BF to work when she was newborn I sort of wanted to see it through to when she decided she was done. But I did need to get some rules in place with it that worked for me too.

DeborahAlisonphillipa · 14/09/2020 21:16

Had breastfeed at bedtime until were about 2.5 or thereabouts. has cows milk with dinner in a small open cup now. Can take milk upstairs if they want after dinner (sometimes do) but only allowed water in a cup or sport style bottle with a straw after brushed teeth for the night. Offered Cows milk in cup with each meal and try and fob them off with water otherwise but will give them milk if they ask for it.

Oly4 · 14/09/2020 21:17

Yes in a sippy cup

icedaisy · 14/09/2020 21:18

Yes exactly the same as @Pob13 and in a bottle.

FizzingWhizzbee123 · 14/09/2020 21:29

No, he lost interest in drinking milk around 18 months and still rarely drinks milk. However we moved him from a bottle to a straw cup at 12 months which seemed ok, as he was still sucking. Then onto a free flow Tommee Tippee about two months later, which he drank from until he lost interest a few months after that.

DigitalGhost · 14/09/2020 21:29

My 3 year old still has it. From a cup

Jfw82 · 14/09/2020 21:32

Yes dd just turned 2 and normal bottle for bed, in morning and nap time. Uses lots of diff cups and bottles for other things just not milk! Ds we gradually dropped 2-2.5 and hoping we will manage similar

FlappyGoLucky · 14/09/2020 21:35

No, I offered a cup of milk when I stopped bf at 2.5 but she didn’t want it. She has the odd cup of milk during the day though.

Stroller15 · 14/09/2020 21:36

My just turned 2 year old still wants a bottle before bed. DS1 dropped the bedtim bottle early, but this one seems to be in for the long haul.

SparkyBlue · 14/09/2020 21:39

@WineIsMyCarb I think we own the same children . I actually think I need to buy my own cow

MaryBoBary · 14/09/2020 21:41

Have you tried the 360 degree cups? They still have to suck it to get the drunk iut but it's shaped like a normal cup. Might be a good half way point for now.
