Lost teddy, heartbroken daughter - can anyone help please?

Hi all, wasn't sure where to put this and really hoping someone can help, though I know it is a long shot.

My daughter (2.6) lost her teddy today. We have searched everywhere and can't find him. Needless to say she is devastated and really worried about him. I have posted a picture of him in my profile and if anyone of you has a teddy like him to spare I would gladly pay you for him. He is a Tesco hugging friend (a dog really). I shall also be contacting Tesco just incase they have any left over anywhere and no doubt tomorrow my daughter and I will be putting up 'lost teddy' posters.

If anyone can help I would be so grateful. xx

If you buy that one for £20, you know it's on it's way and will be with you for the weekend. Then if you find the old one, you can give her that and re-sell the other on Ebay. They are obviously popular.

Or even, if you are feeling generous, donate it to the Toys Reunited site for some good karma!

Callisto · 07/10/2007 20:57

Good idea MM, and you're right - I shall get it and tell him when it arrives.

... and then if you do happen to find the lost one, you'll always have a backup for any future holidays it might take

my dd left her scraggy ty rabbit at the local playground, we went back an hour later and it had been nicked!

MorticiasMother · 07/10/2007 20:59

I'm getting emotional just thinking about it, I know what a nightmare it is when you lose their comforters. Their little faces............. argh! Too sad!

You HAVE to update.

gemmiegoatlegs · 07/10/2007 20:59

my ds lost a bear in France on hol. I was seriously tempted to drive back to Paris but Mr Goatlegs was very stern and said no. Luckily we had another tucked away in the drawer but ds was 3 at the time and although the green bear is still his best toy, he knows it is not the one he lost in france. we still talk about it, and i tell him albi fell in love with a french girl bear and got married!

PillockInThePumpkin · 07/10/2007 21:00

worth remembering the postal strike, it probably won't arrive by the weekend

collision · 07/10/2007 21:00

always buy 2, always buy 2!!

I did and I am so glad I did as ds1 lost his bear when he was tiny. Still has the second one and he is nearly 6.

Also, have the rule that special toys do not go out of the house! It is just not worth it!!

kindersurprise · 07/10/2007 21:04

What a shame, I know my DD would be lost without her Bunny. Hope you find a replacement soon.

I live in Germany and would be happy to send your DD a postcard from her teddy on holiday. My email address is englishwithlynn (at) yahoo.de

MorticiasMother · 07/10/2007 21:05

Both mine lost theirs once.

We were on hol in France but we lived in France too at the time. We were staying in a Youth Hostel but both of us got food poisoning. We felt so shit that we left early to go home. As we were packing, dd got our hers and ds's teddies and put them back to bed. Normally we do an 'idiot check' but because we felt so rough we didn't.

Got home and realised they were missing, then dd admitted what she'd done. She was upset, ds was upset. I rang the woman from the hostel and she said to call back the next day. We had a rough night not knowing what to tell the kids.

Phoned back next day and she had them and said she'd send them on. I was so grateful I kept saying "Merci beaucoup!" They arrived a couple of days later, sent by the most expensive courier in France with the bill for us - 20 euros. dh went nuts! But I'd have paid more for their precious teddies.

Still think she was a bit mean in leaving us with the bill too, I'd have sent them on for free.

MorticiasMother · 07/10/2007 21:06

Oooh Kinder, what a good idea! I'm also happy to send a postcard from Cumbria from her dog. My email is guinness underscore maiden at hotmail dot com.

CarGirl · 07/10/2007 21:06

I have multiples and try to rotate regularly however dds 2 & 3 now tell me that the others don't work! Have much more rigid with rotation with dd4's dog dog. I also learned from the ty rabbits (they look awful) to make sure you buy machine washable

MorticiasMother · 07/10/2007 21:08

At least you can get ty replacements fairly cheaply though.

Ds has a teddy that dd got before he was even born. It was just something she picked up from a shop called Au Natural. We didn't get 2 as it wasn't intended for his comforter, but it became that and now he is so attached to it. I dread to think of what might happen if he were to lose it for good.

Although reading these threads makes me realise that I should probably take a pic of it.

Tamum · 07/10/2007 21:10

It wasn't actually sallystrwberry who losyt strawberry, it was someone called Skye I think, who was never seen again. Shame really. Good luck Callisto.

MorticiasMother · 07/10/2007 21:11

Oh really? I always assumed it was sallystrawberry. Must be getting confused in my old age.

SoMuchToBats · 07/10/2007 21:13

Oooohhh, this is a nightmare! Although ds's main comfort item are his "snuzzle socks", of which he has many, and get washed daily, so there is not just one pair, his favourite cuddly toy is Big Teddy. One night we thought we had lost him - dh even drove 10 miles back to where we had been earlier in the day, to no avail. Then we found Big Teddy - lurking behind a coffee table in the corner of the living room! Ds had "hidden" him when his friend was round earlier, but had absolutely no recollection of it.

We are now very careful about taking Big Teedy out anywhere.

CarGirl · 07/10/2007 21:13

Yes we have lots of ty replacements but she is now firmly attached to rainbow rabbit (the large one) and recently she left him behind on a stall at a car boot sale!!!! Fortunately we got him back then when we did a car boot sale someone tried to buy dd 2 & 3 rabbits (other is mothercare one) - as they kept leaving them lying around on the blanket!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tamum · 07/10/2007 21:14

The toy was a strawberry I think, but the mother who posted was a journalist- she wrote an article about it afterwards. I am pretty sure it wasn't ss.

MorticiasMother · 07/10/2007 21:17

dd lost her favourite hat once. Then about 6 months later we were browsing through a discount clothes store in France that we'd visited before and lo and behold! There was her hat! Just as grubby as ever with her name in felt tip on the label, only it had another addition - a price tag for 3 euros!

kindersurprise · 07/10/2007 21:20

A good book in this situation is this one about a little girl who loses her rabbit. After a few days she receives a postcard from Felix, he is on a world tour.

My DD loves this book and the little letters and maps inside.

If anyone has this book, I have always wondered where Felix goes to first on his world tour. We have the German edition where Felix goes to London, does he start his journey somewhere else in the English edition?

Callisto · 07/10/2007 21:20

Thank you for all of your kind thoughts and suggestions, and thanks especially to BrownSuga for finding 'Teddy 2'. I am going to wait and see what Tesco comes up with and if they have none left I shall buy the tazbar teddy.

Kinder & MM, I shall take you up on your very generous offers and mail you in the morning. Going to sign off now. xx

Best of luck! I'll certainly help all I can and am going to Tesco this week, I'll look in my store but I've a feeling that if it's discontinued I won't be successful.

LIZS · 07/10/2007 21:28

good luck with the hunt. This thread has just prompted me to check availability on ebay of ds' Dogdog just in cse he doesn't return form his weekend away tomorrow ....

hunkermunker · 07/10/2007 21:35

DS1 lost Bear at Ikea just after DS2 was born - I posted on here in a bit of a state [understatement] and Mumatuks (an angel) came to the rescue with a replacement!

Good luck with the hunt. £20 is as nothing for a precious comforter, imo.

HysterSister · 08/10/2007 10:40

FGS if you find the original don't give the replacement away - this WILL happen again ....

Also forge a little postcard from bear to daughter explaining 'holiday', etc until new one arrives.
