Why can´t I sell my nappies???

MurderousMaveta · 07/10/2007 14:41

I have some nappies to get rid off and I´ve posted on two lots of classifieds and I´ve tried the sale board here 3 times now and I don´t even get any interest! I´d be happy to come down in price if anyone even showed interest but nothing, nada, zip, zilch...

I feel very duped, one of the fringe benefits of cloth is allegedly that you can sell them on afterwards and that just doesn´t seem true... or is it me? [sniff.. sniff..]

I've never attemped to sell my cloth nappies - I didn't realise that was supposed to be a benefit of using them.

Did you try Flamesparrow's site? She lets people sell second hand there AFAIK. www.bumfluff.nappies.com

curlywurlycremeegg · 07/10/2007 15:38

Yes Flame does have a classifieds part to her site but I have to say I can't sell mine either, all in great condition and no interest. Am also going to put mine on Little Moos, a free listings site run by anothe MNer, think it's little moos

I have sold a few bits. Maybe it is just a low time for nappies. Good luck though.

Flamesparrow · 07/10/2007 19:00

www.usednappies.co.uk too

Ripeberry · 07/10/2007 19:11

Just NEVER try and sell them on E-bay as they have them classed as pornographic material (seriously)!

Flamesparrow · 07/10/2007 19:15

Not porn - just "used underwear" which is against hygeine

sallyf104 · 07/10/2007 21:49

I have sold nappies recently but its a right hassle since the Nappy Lady Classifieds closed down. I haven't really found any one place - its a case of advertising anywhere you can think of and just keep bumping!!!

wildpatch · 07/10/2007 21:53

i sold nappies on ebay a few years ago.
no problems at all. had quite a few bids.

TheNappyNipper · 07/10/2007 22:03

maveta...you won't get any interest on the for sale boards here cos your name doesn't contain the word mum or mummy and you probably didn't use text speak or call anyone hun enough either

What are you selling?

(I'm usually daisyandbabybootoo....this is my superhero guise, I wear a cape of pink gingham PUL, and use a giant nappy nipp as a bolass to hobble my enemies )

canmummy · 07/10/2007 22:08

In the same boat

I bought a lot of mine 2nd hand years ago and had a choice of where to buy back then

Really don't want to throw them away

liahgen · 07/10/2007 22:34

What nappies have you got "hun"?

TheNappyNipper · 07/10/2007 22:41

I'm pretty sure that regular MNetters will want to buy from other regular MNetters. There are a few on my PN thread that have bought second hand, myself included, so there is a market out there.

The real worry is that people have lost trust because of the nappy lady thing (and the apparent scrupulousness (sp?) of the new influx of sellers on the MN boards.

Could you post on the PN threads, or is that not allowed?

wildpatch · 07/10/2007 22:51

what happened with the nappy lady thing?
many years ago, when i bought my nappies she was a mjor player in the nappy market. what happend with her?

Flamesparrow · 07/10/2007 22:55

There were scammers on the NL classifieds, which is why she shut it

TheNappyNipper · 07/10/2007 23:05

maveta...have just read my first post again and that sounds really flippant. It's just I tried to sell my pram on here but got no real interest other than someone offering to swap it for a bloody Loola (that has probably had at least six who knows how careful owners).....so I'm just feeling a bit miffed about it.

It's a shame about nappy lady, as I bought a load of nappies from there and they have been great for a newbie like me.

wildpatch · 07/10/2007 23:07

you mean fake peopel, taking money and then not sending nappies on?
how horrible.

but surely there is an element of such risk in all such sales places? which is why it needs to be monitored?

Flamesparrow · 07/10/2007 23:08

It can't be monitored though, which is why it is all based on trust

sallyf104 · 07/10/2007 23:09

The Nappy Nipper - isn't it a bit unfair to say new sellers on MN boards are "unscrupulous"? And isn't it a bit unwelcoming to newcomers? Just because someone has recently started selling on here doesn't mean they are out to con people - maybe they just want to sell some nappies...?? And maybe, just maybe, they have had some really good feedback and people actually like what they have bought from them...

TheNappyNipper · 07/10/2007 23:37

sallyf104, I'm not saying all newcomers on here are unscrupulous (in fact I actually said scrupulous ), but the for sale boards seem to me to be dominated by posters who don't get involved in the community that is MN other than to sell their stuff. From what I understand the for sale board was set up so regular MNetters (ie those that are involved in the whole of the MN community) could sell on unwanted stuff, however from my limited browsing on the for sale board some of the posters are so prolific it would appear that they are actually trading.

and I said "apparent" as I know of two regular posters who have had problems with goods not received.

maveta...sorry to hi-jack your thread

Flamesparrow · 08/10/2007 07:08

I know what you mean NN

MurderousMaveta · 08/10/2007 08:35

Oh I'm glad it's not just me then! I do agree with you NN (and I LOVE the name! lol) and didn't think your post sounded flippant at all.

I'm just selling a few size 1s - sandy/ bamboozle/diddys and in fact now a minki huggle and standard minki pocket.. these last two in medium. So if anyone hears of someone who might want them .

It's not big deal really, it's money spent and gone and I didn't really factor resale into the overall cost when I bought them but you know, I just thought it was supposed to be easy - I know when I bought some secondhand they seemed to get sold so fast!

colditz · 08/10/2007 08:38

I tried selling something on the for sale boards once, and got ripped by someone taking the goods and not sending the cheque, then vanishing. I sent a couple of follow up emails about is, but never got a reply, and I'm afraid it's completely put me off internet selling and buying. Things I would otherwise be interested in, I don't bother with because I can't afford to be bitten like that again! It's a shame, really.

wildpatch · 08/10/2007 08:49

car boot sales?
school fairs?
do health visitors organise anything like this at all?

MurderousMaveta · 08/10/2007 08:52

wildpatch - none of that is available to me though because I don't live in the UK and the real nappy market in Spain is somewhat limited..

colditz - I can understand that would put you off, I thought I'd been ripped off a while ago when I paid by paypal and the goods never arrived but after chasing and chasing the woman gave me a refund. Which was a relief, thought I was going to have to admit to dh he was right about all this internet selling. That was a close one..
