Nappy hell

Baby is 6 months old and every single night he is absolutely wet through. Weve always commented that he wees a hell of a lot for a little one. Please give me advice. This us what we have done so far

When in size 3 used size 4+ pull ups
When in size 3 used size 4+ normal ones
When in size 4 used size 5 pull ups
When in size 4 used size 7 pull ups

The reason why we used size 7 is because my mil gave us a massive bag of size 7 pampers pull ups she had in the cupboard going spare for my Niece

He sleeps from around 7pm till 4am and then wakes for a feed and ill change him. Most of the time his baby gro and sleep bag is wet through and occasionally its gone right through to mattress sheet. If he stirs before 4am and seems restless I will change him. I dont want to start waking him unnecessary to change his bum but don't know what else to do its driving me mad and my washing pile is soooo high.

Oh and the nappies we use for bed are pampers.

Thanks guys x

What time are you giving him his last milk feed before bed? Can you make it earlier so he gets some of it out of his system before bed? My ds did this - tried loads of different nappies with no success. It only really completely stopped when we dropped the before bed milk feed later on.

Couldntthinkofausername24 · 06/09/2020 08:22

He has his last feed literally just before bed. He has a bath where he always wees so when I put a nappy on him his bladder is empty so the only wee in the night is from his bedtime feed. You'd think he drank a cow though with the amount. I've just ordered some reusable nappy boosters and will also try aldi and other brands suggested.

Some DC just are super power wee'ers, I had one - the other 3 weren't.

Even from and early age she did huge wee all in one go. We used cloth and she always needed super boosting compared to the others. Like it came out too quickly to be absorbed!

That's a really large size nappy for a baby of that he they're probably too baggy.

orangejuicer · 06/09/2020 08:24

My big 22mo wears 6+ at night so there's no way your 6mo should be anywhere near that.

Hope you find a solution!

Emmacb82 · 06/09/2020 08:25

I’ve never sized up at night, always use the same as what we use in the day. And have always used pampers with both children and never had a leak at night. So strange that everyone has different experiences with the same nappies!

Roomarmoset · 06/09/2020 08:29

I'm voting for Lidl nappies, I tried Aldi and they used to be great but they changed them and my DD started leaking. We changed to Lidl and they're an absolute god send x

londongirl12 · 06/09/2020 08:39

The sizing seems massive for a 6 month old.

Russell19 · 06/09/2020 08:46

How heavy is your baby because mine is 16mo and only in size 4 still. Are you going too big? Also pull ups absorbancy is not as good as nappy.

Couldntthinkofausername24 · 06/09/2020 08:49

Hes just over 9kg so in size 4. Ahh okay I thought pull ups were better. Thanks for that.

ComeOnBabyPopMyBubble · 06/09/2020 09:09

Pull ups tend to be used for potty training,so for much older children and with some bladder control.

Even the size 4 might be a bit big for him, despite his weight as they go up to 14 kgs. A size 7 will definitely be massive and they will leak regardless of how absorbent they are.

Russell19 · 06/09/2020 09:14

Nappies are definitely more absorbant. Why don't you go back to 3+ nappies and try them?

Couldntthinkofausername24 · 06/09/2020 09:39

Thank you so much @Russell19 I will pick up size 3+ today.

For all those saying size 7 is far too big - I am well aware hence why I explained in an earlier post I only tried them as I was desperate and they were stuck in the back of the cupboard.

To be fair my 11 month old is in size 6/6+

He probably went into size 6 at about 7/8 months

Have you tried pampers premium op?

Couldntthinkofausername24 · 06/09/2020 09:49

@THATbasicrebelBITCH thank you and nope I haven't. Is this what you use? I'll literally try anything.

I've been googling all morning about nappy sizes and its not just weight it goes off like everyone suggests. It takes in to consideration body type and height etc. Well pampers do on their website anyway 🤦‍♀️

I work in a nursery and have changed literally hundreds of nappies
Pull ups are rubbish, they are not as absorbent as nappies
My advice is to use the right size nappy not a pull up and to make it as tight as possible and to use a popper vest

Fatted · 06/09/2020 09:58

I'm surprised no one has mentioned to check the 'angle of his dangle'. Make sure his willy is pointing down when you put his nappy on. Pointing up makes the nappies leak.

When do you change him in relation to his last bottle? I'd be tempted to give him his last feed, then change his nappy before bed.

AbsenceOfBlinkinLight · 06/09/2020 09:58

OP, have you checked the frills on the bit ornate nappy this goes around the legs are fully un-tucked? They can really funnel a lot of wee out if they’re not.

Couldntthinkofausername24 · 06/09/2020 10:09

Yeah i always point that little tinky downwards. I learnt the hard way from birth. I've always been used to changing girls bottoms so was completely shocked when I changed his bottom. Yep I unpick the frills so they are on the outside. I'll probably just try some different types. X

Yes they are the only ones work for us over night. If you have amazon prime you can get them at a decent price

newmum234 · 06/09/2020 10:28

Does anyone know if you can put baby in a double nappy overnight to prevent leaks into clothes/sheets? Or is that a bad idea?

londongirl12 · 06/09/2020 12:46

Nappies are far better than pull ups. My toddler is currently potty training and I put on pull ups at night. He was soaked at 3am!!!! So now we have nappies at night, until we're at the night training stage.

doodlejump1980 · 06/09/2020 12:48

Are the frills on the outside?

orangejuicer · 07/09/2020 06:33

I think a double nappy is going to give you issues temperature wise as it's a point of insulation. I wouldn't recommend it.

Try other nappies OP, of the right size. Good luck!

Flynn2019 · 07/09/2020 06:54

I think it could be a size issue rather than the nappies. I have tried every brand of nappy and pampers are my only go to. The rest have all leaked for me. I use the pampers nappy pants and I can't fault them. Aldi and lidl I think are cheap rubbish, not onyl leaked through but the red marks they left on my LO were enough to stop using. A friend of mine uses the little rascals ones from Tesco and they are the only one that work for her. I think everyone is different to preference but I would stick to his normal size. Sizing up will create gaps that could leak.
