Popular brand 'Joie' how do you pronounce it?

I know this sounds absolutely ridiculous but...

I was shopping for a new push chair for my 8mo.
Now.. I went into the shop, approached staff member and asked her where their 'Joie' range was.

She looked at me as if I was crazy, I showed her the picture on their website and she let out a big 'Ohhhh, that's over here' took me to the push chair and went again.

Now I know maybe I should've asked her at the time, but now I'm home, baby is asleep and I have a moment to actually think - I have clearly been pronouncing it wrong this whole time, like a idiot complete dickhead

I say it as 'Joey' ??

I pronounced it like Joey too but in a few stores they always say "Joy" :)

MiddleClassProblem · 03/08/2020 19:27

I think it’s Joy. If they were French it would be jwa but I think they are british or Australian. But definitely not 100% sure!

Mywifeandkids1 · 03/08/2020 19:28

Oh I’ve always said Joey too haha

It's joy

dementedma · 03/08/2020 19:30

I would use the French Jwah

jenniuol · 03/08/2020 19:30

I say joey too, and have never heard anyone say anything else from John Lewis to independent places but I presume that it’s not then? 🙈 I think she was being a bit obtuse though, surely it’s not that much of a leap from Joie to joey/joy, I’m sure she knew exactly what you meant.

Pugdoglife · 03/08/2020 19:31

Oops posted too soon! It's joy, but most of my mum friends call it Joey so I'm surprised if shop assistants haven't heard anyone pronounce it that way.

CaptainMyCaptain · 03/08/2020 19:32

Jwah. The French way.

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 03/08/2020 19:34

Joy. Its French.
Think of the phrase Joie de Vivre.

Ritascornershop · 03/08/2020 19:34

As a Canadian if someone said Joey I’m not sure I’d jump to jwah. But if someone said Joey pushchairs I might? I recall having a similar problem in London when looking for Beauchamp Street. Canadians view French words quite differently from the English.

AndwhenyougetthereFoffsomemore · 03/08/2020 19:36

I would assume it was pronounced as the French word for joy - so phonetically something like jj-waa.

Lozz22 · 03/08/2020 19:36

I'd have said Joey too!

FedUpofLockdown123 · 03/08/2020 19:38

I say joy.

Russell19 · 03/08/2020 19:39

Its joy but I said it like you for ages too!

Grgyuhgdetujjbdww · 03/08/2020 19:55

I say Joy but everyone else seems to say Joey, I’ve also wondered which is right!

Pizzapromotion · 03/08/2020 19:58

I've always assumed it was French but would feel pretentious saying it with a french accent so go for Joy.

Cecilia2016 · 03/08/2020 20:01

In U.K. is Joy and joie is an Australian newest baby brand

Cam2020 · 03/08/2020 20:02

I thought it was pronounced Jwa Blush thankfully I've never said it out loud despite having the popular stroller. Off to find an advert on You Tube... Grin

Most Brits don't know how to pronounce Beauchamp Grin

Pizzapromotion · 03/08/2020 20:07

Beauchamps is the local secondary school here (in true Estaury English country) I'm now thinking I need Google to find out if anyone says it right.

Coriandersucks · 03/08/2020 20:08

I always said joey then I got laughed at in mothercare and they told me in a very patronising way that it was actually joy.

I refuse to buy their products on that basis (even though I need new car seats and theirs is the cheapest!)

Bee-chum (as in Connie Beauchamp in Casualty!)

Cutesbabasmummy · 04/08/2020 10:50

Joy.

Dyra · 04/08/2020 11:32

I had this dilemma at a baby show last year. I guessed "jwa", DH "joey".

I asked one of the representatives at the stand and was told it was "joy" and that the brand was named after the founder's daughter (guess the Dutch also like French names). Nuna is named after the other daughter. No idea about Graco.
