What age did you change your pram from lie-flat bassinet to seat?

My DD is 20 weeks old and is starting to get bored and upset in the bassinet of the pram. She'll sleep in it for a short period, but once awake she's not happy.

I know it's usually advised to change at 6 months, but does depend on the individual baby. My DD is not sitting independently yet but has excellent head control.

We have a Bugaboo Cameleon.

At what age did you change yours?

Thank you everyone, very helpful responses. I think I will be changing over to the seat.

My only concern is that she isn't sitting up yet, does anyone think this will cause any issues? The Bugaboo Cameleon does lie flat but would probably only use that when napping, I'd like to use the semi upright position when she's awake so that she can see what's going on.

I chopped and changed between the car seat attachment and the bassinet, so never really consistently used it. I think he was about 5 or 6 months when we stopped using it entirely and 8 months when we starting using the system as just a pushchair.

Alwaysundecided · 02/08/2020 11:59

Between 3 and 4 months but I didn't sit him bolt upright straight away, he was on the semi recline but could see out. He was a big baby and too big for the bassinet really plus he hated laying in it. Much happier looking around.

Not the same context but I remember the weaning talk where they said being able to sit supported was good enough. I think as long as they don't look slumped when sat in the pushchair it's OK.

Cdl84 · 02/08/2020 12:03

About 4.5 months. He wouldnt go in the bassinet (without screaming) and was getting to heavy for the sling so just changed to the seat and he was fine in it.

SeasideArms · 02/08/2020 12:20

We had a Cam, DS was in the seat from about 4 months. Its quite supportive I think, they can't really slump down in it. He's a teen now, and no issues with his spine!

I have a bugaboo chameleon too, we changed about 4.5m and she didn’t sit unaided til after 6. I put it on the semi upright position, and lay her flat for naps. I only moved to fully upright closer to a year. My daughter hated lying flat from about 3m and I couldn’t cope with the whinging any more, as soon as she was semi upright she was happier. I was one of the last in my group of mum friends too!! I say go for it.

PeacefulInTheDeep · 03/08/2020 08:07

About 5 months for both of mine, they just got too big for the carry cot. They seemed happy enough being able to see more in the reclined position, and I'd lay them flat if they started getting sleepy.

IloveBeefJerky · 03/08/2020 10:12

3.5 months, baby wanted to see and got angry being laid down all the time!

ZooKeeper19 · 03/08/2020 10:48

My one sits in the basinet (9m) and loves it. He can play, is not restrained, can turn front/back, sees everything from a bit high up and when tired has a decent nap in it still (though he is now head to toe in it...).

This strikes me as incredibly unsafe? It wouldn't be ok to put a 9 month in a cot on the highest setting so unless your bassinet has much higher sides than any I've ever seen I don't think this is ok. There's a reason that you want a child of that age 'restrained' in their pram!

moofolk · 03/08/2020 11:32

I was about 29 first time

TrashKitten10 · 03/08/2020 11:57

I really wanted to use it until the recommended 6 months but at 4.5 months DD was going into 9-12 month clothes and had just run out of room. She was still happy (just a bit squashed) in it but MIL was adamant she needed to be propped up.

ihoeihoeihoe · 03/08/2020 12:00

We changed early when my son had only just started sitting up and found it quite a lot of room for him to throw himself around, as it was colder weather it was easily fixed with his favourite fluffy blanket which we put to the side/ or laying it down as they’re still able to see much more which is usually why they don’t like the bassinet around that age. Trial it on some small works and eventually you’ll find what works for you

11 and 12 weeks. Both had severe reflux and were in so much pain lying flat. The seat part did fully recline if needed but they both preferred to be slightly raised up.

beautifulmonument · 03/08/2020 12:54

21 weeks, big strong baby

mintich · 03/08/2020 12:56

About 5 months as she kept lifting her shoulders up as she wanted to see out

StraffeHendrik · 03/08/2020 13:03

DC1, about 4 months, she was bored not being able to see out. DC2, never had the carrycot on as he was swapping in and out with DC1. We just put it on the flat-ish position (Bugaboo cameleon).

DC2 never really spent long in there though, maybe 20min at a time.

GrumpyHoonMain · 03/08/2020 13:05

Between 4-5 months as he started to gain length and became very uncomfortable in his pram.

StraffeHendrik · 03/08/2020 13:08

@hardbackwriter, it depends on the kid!

My DC1 hardly used the straps ever, she wasn't interested in climbing out, she still prefers to sit on her bum and demand to be brought things! DC2 has needed strapping in since he was tiny - as soon as he could roll over he was trying to roll off things!

Hardbackwriter · 03/08/2020 13:14

But the straps aren't just there to stop the child climbing out, they're there to stop them falling out. I would never have DS unstrapped in the pram even if he were asleep - one big bump in the pavement and they could be seriously hurt.

MindyStClaire · 03/08/2020 13:44

About three months, due to reflux as another poster said.

If you look up the US instructions for your pram, I bet they talk about moving at three rather than six months like in the UK. The regs must be different or something.

Hollyhead · 03/08/2020 13:50

DS1 about 4 months.

DS2 - 1 month, but had it almost fully reclined for 2-3 months - he was much happier, he hated the bassinet!

Wecandothis99 · 03/08/2020 13:50

6 months

Laaalaaaa · 03/08/2020 15:37

7 months and my baby is long. They would have probably still fit in it for another month or so. I wanted to keep baby in pram as long as I could.
