My DD is one soon, and we are a bit stuck as to what to do, its on a Saturday and neither of us are working on that day.

I thought about taking her to a farm, but if it rains that might be a bit rubbish.

We don't live in a big city, and don't want to travel that far.

What did you do?

DS was one in August so we started about 4pm and had BBQ for immediate family and close friends. Needless to say it rained but a good time was had by all .

we took dd to the zoo and just had a family tea - me, dh and dd that night... bbq for family and friends the next night.

2nd b'day - afternoon tea for close family and friends

both were great....

We hired a function room at DH golf club as DS birthday is in Feb and it's too cold / wet for an outdoor party. All the our family & friends came plus DS nursery & baby group friends.

Advantages: lots of adults available to help out! Only needed one party for everyone. There was a bar for the adults to use Plenty of parking.

Disadvantages: the cost of hiring the room. Making enough sandwiches everyone. Grandparents weren't impressed.

We had a party at home with her cousin of the same age.
It was great fun

we had a very quiet morning, just the three of us being cosy then cake and champagne in the afternoon, opening presents with god and grandparents. It seems to me that whatever we do, its only for the parents anyway!

had a wonderful picnic in the local park, took some of those small plastic bins with lids and filled them with ice so there was lots of chilled champagne for the adults and water/juice for kiddies. Took along picnic stuff and cake and candles as well as blankets and toys/bike/ball for kids. the weather was wonderful and it was a great day made even better by not worrying about the mess because at the end of it we just put everything into big bin bags.
