my baby's always soaked

Hey Smile

I have a 14 month old baby boy. Lately his nappies during first thing in the morning are soaking through, all his pjs are wet and bed is wet. This is normally -45 out of 7 nights it is like this.

I have tried to limit his water intake as he does drink a lot. He's only got to see his water cup and he's drinking from it but he could drink 2-3 of these a day easily.

He has 2-3 bottles of milk a day (full fat cows milk).

Even his nappies during the day fill up so fast. Just getting concerned that he's urinating a lot and worried about his kidneys.

Any suggestions on what I could try?

TIA

Are his nappies big enough? Going up a size might help

SuncreamInTheWinter · 25/05/2020 04:25

How often are you changing nappy?

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 25/05/2020 05:14

Go up a nappy size

I have gone up a nappy size. That's the first thing I did.

His nappy change is regular due to how much he goes. I'm even getting up the night to change him due to how wet he is, but he is starting to sleep through the night so this is when everything is soaked when he wakes up

don't limit fluid intake.

That doesn't seem an excessive amount of drink to me.
I assume that you are worried that he may be diabetic if he is weeing a lot?

Is he very thirsty? Diabetics tend to be really thirsty, desparate for a drink.

At night would change him when you go to bed, and see if that helps.

Gerbi1 · 25/05/2020 09:02

Weigh him and go up to the biggest size category his weight puts him in. Make sure the fringes are out and try pampers baby dry

hannjocelyn · 25/05/2020 09:15

I normally leave his water on the table where he can get it if he wants a drink, but sometimes he will drink 3-4 mouthfuls at a time and then have a sip but it's constant all day, he hardly ever puts it down.

I have weighed him, I have changed the size of the nappy's. I put the nappies on correctly, fringes our and all that. That was the very first thing I did

My toddler is like this and we have to double up on nappies at night. He wears a regular nappy and then a pull up on top. Have tried every nappy going and they all leak!

hannjocelyn · 25/05/2020 09:27

@poppet31 - exactly the same as me. I've tried every brand of nappy I can get my hands on and they all leak, I think pampers are the worst!

I might have to try doubling it up. Has your little one been better since you started doing that

Have you tried Morrison's nutmeg nappies? I went through this with DD when she was a baby. The only nappies that were absorbent enough for nighttime were Morrison's own brand.

poppet31 · 25/05/2020 09:36

Yes we've had fewer leaks. The pull up seems to absorb some of the overspill but also keeps the nappy underneath from moving around. Expensive way to do it but has prevented us having to wash bedding constantly.

TeddyBeans · 25/05/2020 09:53

I had this with DS not too long ago. He was always in Pampers premium protection nappy pants but I couldn't get them one time so bought baby dry ones instead thinking they'd be exactly the same. Every single night he'd wet through even though the amount he was drinking was consistent throughout. Have gone back to premium protection ones now and magically he doesn't leak anymore!

I know you said you're not keen on pampers fit but it might be worth a try?

TheSheepofWallSt · 25/05/2020 09:55

Don’t limit his water- particularly as the weather is getting warmer.

Find nappies that fit better, don’t leak, or double up.

But don’t limit fluids- that amount is not excessive.

shittingthreeeyedraven · 25/05/2020 09:56

Have you tried cloth nappies? My two part night time ones are amazing! Dc can pee for England but never has a leak even after wearing it 8-8 at least. Little lamb two parters boosted with a bamboo are the bomb! And as they don’t tend to poop overnight they are easier to deal with if you are not totally sold on cloth!

THATscurryfungeBITCH · 25/05/2020 09:57

The only nappy that works overnight for my 8 month old is pampers premium protection. He is in a size 6 at night and 5 during the day

ElectricTonight · 25/05/2020 10:09

Check for diabetes , my son was drinking a lot of water waking up in the night thirsty, the doctor sent him for tests.

Have you tried pull ups ?

CrocusPocus · 25/05/2020 10:11

I have a cousin (now an adult) whose parents took her to the doctor at around the age of your DS for this very reason. She was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. That's all I know on the subject but would it be worth getting a medical opinion?

hannjocelyn · 25/05/2020 10:40

I have tried pull ups, we have those and the normal nappies.

I think I will get some medical advise, diabetes runs in my side of the family, type 1 & type 2. So could be a possibility.

Thank you everyone

Obviously rule out medical things but assuming all ok, then as PP suggested, cloth is your friend here! Either cloth nappies or just getting some bamboo boosters and using those inside a disposable nappy. They're cheap and very absorbent and you can use a couple if necessary. Yes you have to wash them but it's less washing than doing the PJs and bedding every day!

BergamotMouse · 25/05/2020 11:11

Another vote for cloth. You can boost and boost with bamboo / hemp. Best combo for is an Ellas house bumhugger, a hemp booster and a petit lulu pull up wrap. He'd struggle to out wee that!!

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 25/05/2020 11:23

Just to note, I tried reusable hemp/cloth nappies with an insert and it turned out worse than re-usables.

Nappies from Lidl are the best by a mile.

Fishfingersandwichplease · 25/05/2020 16:01

I found Pampers nappies awful too

Anotherdayinmumlife · 25/05/2020 19:55

This was the first symptoms of my partners son at 18 months old and he was diagnosed type 1 diabetic. He was also trying to drink bath water

hannjocelyn · 11/06/2020 03:51

Update

I’ve had him tested for diabetes and everything came back clear, so we now know that not the problem.

He is still completely soaked every morning, I’m not doubling up his nappies at night and that doesn’t work, even bought pampers night pants and then his usual nappy over the top but still soaked through.

I’m even changing him during the night if I can, but that doesn’t help.

Any more suggestions? As I’m worried about his skin

avacadooo · 11/06/2020 04:08

Has anyone suggested the Asda little angels pull ups? We have a nightmare with it too and it doesn't completely prevent the wet clothes but it's a lot better than before and isn't every night just once or twice a week.
Can you put him to bed later so his bum is changed later at night like 9pm? We manage to get 9-6 most days and it's only occasionally he gets up at that time and is wet through.
Other option is a waterproof nappy covering? Like a reusable without the inside on top of a normal nappy?
