my baby's always soaked

Hey Smile

I have a 14 month old baby boy. Lately his nappies during first thing in the morning are soaking through, all his pjs are wet and bed is wet. This is normally -45 out of 7 nights it is like this.

I have tried to limit his water intake as he does drink a lot. He's only got to see his water cup and he's drinking from it but he could drink 2-3 of these a day easily.

He has 2-3 bottles of milk a day (full fat cows milk).

Even his nappies during the day fill up so fast. Just getting concerned that he's urinating a lot and worried about his kidneys.

Any suggestions on what I could try?

TIA

Are you positioning his penis right before securing the nappy? I find this makes a huge difference with my 12 month old. I make sure it's pointing straight down as if it's up or even pointing to the side he will usually leak.

You mentioned weighing him and going up a size. If you are basing the nappy size on his weight, don’t. Both of mine were always one or two sizes above their weights. They have very long torsos so needed a bigger size.
Do they soak through in the same place? One of mine is going through a phase of leaking around the left leg at the beginning of the night when the nappy is almost empty and I’m convinced it’s a fit issue.
Personally I wouldn’t double nappy without medical advice. A double nappy is the treatment for hip dysplasia so I assume it can have an influence on them.

I had this with my daughter at about the same age, she's 17 months now. NAPPY PANTS! Work a dream, it's because they're so wriggly they get a gap in the top of the nappy and it leaks. Pampers nappy pants are stretchy so you don't get that gap.

@fee1234 I do make sure it's pointing down every time I change his nappy

Im personally not keen on pampers, I only tried the nighttime ones as I thought they may be better but they still don't help.

He's soaked everywhere, every time all his vest is wet, trousers, bedsheet, sometimes his top is wet so it's not just in one place.

Am currently looking into the bamboo nappies and wraps as suggested before

This might be asking the obvious sorry, but are you putting it on tight enough? My ds wets through when my dh does his nappy and I'm sure it's the way he puts it on. He doesn't pull the front up high enough or tight enough. I just make sure I can get a finger under with a bit of give.

Also you can get cloth training pants with a waterproof liner. They might be good to put over.

There's a website too called thenappylady.co.uk and she has a page about night time nappy suggestions.

We had this problem not long ago.
What worked for me was bamboo nappy liners. Put one inside a disposable nappy, and get a waterproof wrap over that. It’s worked a treat, I can use any brand of disposable nappy now, and he’s never soaked in the morning.

A reusable bamboo nappy with a hemp booster or two and a wool wrap is pretty much entirely leak-proof. If you don’t fancy going fully reusable, you could try adding a booster or two to a disposable, and/or adding a PUL or wool wrap over the top.

DS wees for England. Constantly. We double up nappies. Normal nappy underneath with holes in to ease the pressure and then a nappy pant over the top to catch the excess.

We’ve had to do this since he started sleeping though at about 4 months. He’s 14 months now and has never leaked since. Every now and then we just use one nappy to see if he still needs the doubling up and his bed ends up soaked.

Have you considered terry nappies?

I switched to them and wish I'd done it sooner, they'll save you a fortune too.
