Help! How do I bath my son without a bath!!

I have a 4 month old son who is growing rapidly out of the baby bath. The problem is that in our flat we only have a shower (we bought it when we weren't thinking about having kids) How the hell can we bath him in a month or 2 when he's too big..I don't know if he'll appreciate being put under the shower..I suppose there are bigger baby baths out there. Any ideas or help grately appreciated!

We never had a bath. When our kids grew out of hte baby bath, they had sitting showers in the tray, with bubbles and bath toys. Obviously I was with them at all times, and I held the shower, and let them hold, and play a little so it was not just raining down on them.

get a big shallow bucket, i had a rhino tub thing, use that and when he can sit up use a bath seat! (i am talking a tub with a diameter of about 1m!)

MaryAnnSingleton · 20/09/2007 12:20

shower with him, that's what dh used to do when we've stayed in holiday places without a bath - as long as it's not too vigorous (ie a power shower can be a bit scary!) should be fine !

Like your idea of having shower together nailpolish! The shower tray is very shallow..maybe a little water but not much..can try though!

could you cover the plug hole with a flannel and fill the shower base with a few inches of water and out baby in something like this??

WigWamBam · 20/09/2007 12:20

When I was a baby we lived in a caravan with no bath - my mum used to bath us in the kitchen sink.

WillyWonka · 20/09/2007 12:20

Tummy Tubs are ace but a large builders bucket can work just as well and can probably accommodate a larger baby.

Tortington · 20/09/2007 12:20

bucket water,
or
sink in kitchen

francagoestohollywood · 20/09/2007 12:21

get a big bucket from a garden center

gringottsgoblin · 20/09/2007 12:22

i use kitchen sink, would always choose this over a baby bath. also nice to have a shower holding your baby, just make sure you dont use too much slippy soap!

preggersagain · 20/09/2007 12:23

paddling pool?

lokka · 20/09/2007 12:25

Wow..thanks guys for ideas..good to know I'm not the only one..I live in Spain and they're not big on baths here! Those bath support things for babies are only for up to a few months though ren't they? anyone found them useful?

lokka · 20/09/2007 12:26

GAW love that idea!

Kewcumber · 20/09/2007 12:29

well how do the spanish do it?

Sink is probably the way to go - thats what I did with 1yr old DS in kazakhstan

MaryAnnSingleton · 20/09/2007 12:32

my mum used to wash my hair in the kitchen sink - was very long and I had to lie on the draining board with my head over the edge of the sink bit...

lokka · 20/09/2007 12:36

most houses here have small baths.we just chose a flat without(tiny flat) sink is also pretty small..

When he can sit up he can go back in the baby bath, which you could place on the shower tray so he doesn't soak the entire floor My SIL (who hasn't got a bath either) does this with her 11-month-old. It's just big enough!

Kewcumber · 20/09/2007 12:45

you can get inflatable baths designed for children once they can sit up. They're designed to go inside a bath but I'm sure you could use them in a shower tray. I used one with DS as he seemed quite scared of the bath (not having been used to them) and the smaller bath did the job.

I'll see if I can find a link to them.

lokka · 20/09/2007 12:49

Thanks. What about when he's older, say 2 or 3.Do kids of that age like showers? I just feel a bit sad that he'll miss out the activity time..you know, little duckies etc!

OP posts:
Kewcumber · 20/09/2007 12:49

suitable to 9 months

lokka · 20/09/2007 12:55

that's great, will look into it. What about when he's a little older? Will he enjoy the shower in the same way. It's not as relaxing..well, if there's no alternative!

In a bucket, did it with Ds when we didnt have one, and in a kitchen sink when PG with DS2 and couldnt get him out of the bath very well.

Quootiepie · 20/09/2007 13:09

How about an old fashioned bath thingy - they are like big steel tubs. Well, not a bath but a big tub. My MIL has got flowers in one in her garden They would be OK up until about age 2/3 I guess.
