Help! How do I bath my son without a bath!!

I have a 4 month old son who is growing rapidly out of the baby bath. The problem is that in our flat we only have a shower (we bought it when we weren't thinking about having kids) How the hell can we bath him in a month or 2 when he's too big..I don't know if he'll appreciate being put under the shower..I suppose there are bigger baby baths out there. Any ideas or help grately appreciated!

When we went on holiday when DD was about 6m old we didn't stay anywhere with a bath so improvised and bathed her in a big plastic storage box that we'd taken with us with all her stuff in.

lokka · 20/09/2007 13:18

Like it.. very old fashioned! The only problem is VERY small flat, no storage space..but something along those lines is a great idea..thanks!

jsut make sure you get in the shower iwth him! its lots of fun and the skin to skin really is lovely

flamingtoaster · 20/09/2007 13:19

We used a big blue plastic storage box - and they both loved it. Later we used it for toys.

Great ideas..I'm obviously just not as resourceful as you lot! Has anyone got experience of showering toddlers.Do they enjoy it the same as baths? Just wondering about the future..

stop worrying! children are resourceful and dont mind things half as much as you think they will. he will just be used to it and wont bat an eyelid

bucket (see photo of DS on my profile)
cheap to buy and easy to empty on to your houseplants or garden afterwards!

lokka · 20/09/2007 14:32

Yes..you're right..I just want everything to be perfect..really supid FTM! LOVE the picture...soooo cute!

it's normal to want that, don't worry!! Keep the baby bath though for sitting up baths with toys when they're 3 to 5 yrs old (usually lasting about an hour if he can get away with it!)

lokka · 20/09/2007 14:59

yeh..starting to think the baby bath I bought must be ultra small! Probably will invest in a larger one!

glad to see this thread, as we bought our house with only a shower last november thinking - oh it'll be ages before we think about kids, fast forward to now, 6 months pregnant and imagining scarring my baby for life cos she won't be able to splash about in the bath with rubber ducks etc. I have a pretty big baby bath which will go inside the shower for now - hopefully that will last for a while.

lokka · 25/09/2007 10:31

Snap Ambi! But be careful..the baby bath lasts a while but they grow up so quick! make sure you have a big one. By the way..I tried showering him the other day with me and he screamed. Gonna try leaving it a while and try again soon..Don't want to traumatise him in the shower if that's gonna be our only option.

DD (11 months) is still in the baby bath. And she will be for a while, until we move basically. She likes big baths at GPs houses, so I don't think she's missing out.
Friends of ours have done the toy crate thing while their bathroom was being redecorated and their DD (aged 3) loved it.

Cocobear · 27/09/2007 20:47

My DS still screams at having a shower and he's nearly 4. Whenever we travel we take a big bucket for shower-only places - it still works now, though I really hope he makes his peace with the shower before he's 18!

For toys, get those great wall-stick spongy things- we have letters and numbers but I've seen animals, trucks, etc.

Tangas · 28/09/2007 17:43

Oh deer.. I know what my grandmother would say to that one... "Put him in the sink!"
I got photos of her doing it to me and my sister when we were young!! Ha ha... Apart from that i have no idea... MOVE..
Sorry not alot of help am I!! GOOD LUCK x
