toddler beds - why don't they come with superglue to stick the child in with?

after much ado over reluctance to sleep in the c.o.t. (as it must be referred to), dd 21months has now got a very cute bed, just her size (tiny) cos no way could i put someone so diddy in a 3ft bed. first night - fab, what a great new pink thing. over the seven nights since we've had it, she's slept less hours in it each night and keeps heading back to our king-size like a baby boomerang. her two big brothers would never have dared do such a thing.
Anyone got any tips? I NEED SUGGESTIONS!!

LOL!

No tips. 6 yr old DS currently asleep in MY bed!

emkana · 18/09/2007 20:34

Just let her. She'll do it when she's ready.

lisad123 · 18/09/2007 20:36

only things that ever worked with my dd was to keep returning her to bed, and she has a night light which is on a timer, so she has been told she can only get up to go to loo, and can come and wake mummy/daddy when light goes out

apparently it invades their human rights or some such thing!

glitterchick · 20/09/2007 13:38

My BIL has put a baby gate on the doorway of his sons bedroom so he can't keep leaving his room at night.

fruitful · 20/09/2007 13:51

Gaffa tape

Repeatedly returning them to their bed does work eventually but its hard to find the willpower at 2am.

superloopy · 20/09/2007 13:51

I wanted to try out the combination of velcro sheets, velcro pj's and a velcro duvet to keep my DD in her 'big girls bed'.
Unfortunately I think it may just be a little too scratchy.
I just have to keep getting up and putting her back to bed but she is getting better.

how do you get your little ones to sleep in your bed though? Our ds wakes up some time between 5 and 6.30am and screams until he comes in with us but then does nothing but wriggle and kick in bed. None of us get any sleep! Grrrrrr. I wouldnt mind him coming in with us as we get up at 6.15am if he just lay still!

fihi · 20/09/2007 21:13

sleep? sorry did i mislead you!! yes, wriggle, kick mum, kick dad, slide out of bed and raid the cupboards etc. unless i do the 'baby straightjacket' cuddle and clamp her til she gives in and sucks her thumb. Second night of gate-on-doorway tactic : so far so good.

for the op: dh says "velcro is your friend. a strip on the bed, a strip on the pj's - done."

superloopy · 21/09/2007 06:55

fihi - my DD is 3yo but has only recently moved from a cot to a bed, at the same time as we moved from the UK to Australia. Her whole little world has been turned upside down so I am not surprised that her sleep has been affected.
She probably only wakes up 3-4 nights a week and does go back to sleep very quickly when I have tucked her back into her own bed.
I just don't like getting out of bed in the night especially at 30wks pregnant!!

ravenAK · 22/09/2007 20:46

Ha.

Half an hour ago was seriously considering shutting dd out of her bedroom using stairgate, so she could go & tidy living room, put on washing & mark 30 year 9 books, whilst I curled up in toddler bed & cried myself to sleep.

Was deterred by fact that I am well upholstered 6 foot pregnant lady & toddler bed not rated for such.

I'm sure (from memory of ds at same age) that they get the hang of it eventually...[hopeful]

I put my DS in his 'big' bed at 22 motnhs and was expecting bedtimes to be ALOT more tricky! As it turns out we have one of those IKEA canopys which go over the bed and have a mossie net over the top of this (I am not neurotic we live in the caribbean! - well actually i am but not over the mossies). He loves it and calls it his roof and for some weird reason now thinks that he can't get out of bed until you move the net for him. He could easily if he tried but he doesn't, thank god.

just an idea!

fihi · 22/09/2007 20:54

woo!! mossie net in merseyside?! or move to the carribbean...

OP posts:
barefeete · 22/09/2007 21:04

what's wrong with a mossie net in merseyside - you could just call it a princess bed. failing that move to the Caribbean invest in a mossie net and use it for it's proper use - but then your DD will probably be waking up a) beacuse it's too hot, b) because it gets light at 5am and you can't buy frigging blackout curtians here or c)becasue every dog, cow, chicken, cockral wakes up then and lets everyone know about it!!

but the views are good so can't complain!

fihi · 22/09/2007 21:07

fantastic. Princess bed here we come.

barefeete · 22/09/2007 21:11

you can get those ones with hoops at the top that hand down from the ceiling! it's def worth a try imo

good luck.
