Worried mum from the uk, my daughter turned 2, 2 days ago and still wont bear weight on her legs, when i try to get her to stand while holding on to somthing her legs shake like jelly and she gets so upset, she has been going to physio but still no improvement, has anyone else been through this? Really need some advice all i do is worry and i can never see her walking even tho people tell me 'she will just get up one day and go' i cant see it happening tbh, its all i ever worry about, she goes along on her knees all day and her knees are so sore and bruised, i just wish she would get up on her feet

Oh poor little thing. What does the GP say Emma? Have they investigated at all?

Emmavaughan · 06/05/2020 11:37

My daughter didn't see the GP she just went to physio and they said she doent have the confidence yet to stand but i feel in my gut theres more to it why my daughter wont stand

Why haven’t you seen the GP?

Has she been assessed for hypermobility, and had blood tests for eg vit d deficiency? She should have some investigations to rule out an underlying cause.

SomeoneElseEntirelyNow · 06/05/2020 11:48

You need to take her to the GP ASAP! what did the HV say at your most recent check?

mamaoffourdc · 06/05/2020 11:56

You need to speak to your health visitor and gp

picklemewalnuts · 06/05/2020 11:58

Are you in the UK? My tot needed splints and special boots before she could weight bear, the difference was almost immediate. However, we got them after referral to the physio.

How are you seeing Physio, is it a private one or were you referred to it?

timeisnotaline · 06/05/2020 12:00

Goodness yes why haven’t you seen a Gp? Physio sounds crap.

Hoggleludo · 06/05/2020 12:01

Woah what?!?

Very worried mum. Yet hadn't seen your gp???

Doesn't make sense

Murinae · 06/05/2020 12:01

My daughter didn’t walk till after she was two and now you wouldn’t notice any difference in her. Wasn’t any real reason. She was born prematurely and had physio. She did get there in the end.

timeisnotaline · 06/05/2020 12:02

Sorry not finished. Poor muscle tone is relatively common and ranges from being a bit slow on developing the gross motor skills (most common case) to being overall developmentally delayed. How is she overall? Every baby I know with it has worked with a physio and had at an least daily at home physio routine the parents fo with them, much of it as simple as support child standing on their legs. So hold her up to standing as much as possible to develop muscle tone while you try and see someone better.

SockQueen · 06/05/2020 14:11

She needs an assessment by more than just physio. GP/HV for referral to paeds.

lollipoplola · 06/05/2020 14:22

Gosh I think you need to book a gp appointment today and ask for an urgent referral to paeds.

Emmavaughan · 06/05/2020 16:39

Of course i am worried, i talked to my HV and asked her if i should take my daughter to see the GP and she said the GP will only tell me what my HV said and will refer her to physio, its not like i have sat back and done nothing, and your comment has made me feel ten times worse than i already do

OP posts:
Emmavaughan · 06/05/2020 16:42

And just to add i am currently waiting on an appointment to see the pediatrician

OP posts:
Emmavaughan · 06/05/2020 16:47

picklemewalnuts i am in the uk and my HV made the referral for physio

pilates · 06/05/2020 16:47

Insist the GP makes a referral to a paediatric doctor for further investigations. I know you must be worried. My DD didn’t walk until she was 2.3 but she had underlying problems.

pilates · 06/05/2020 16:48

And my HV was worse than useless!

AnyFucker · 06/05/2020 16:48

Try not to worry, love. Hopefully when this horrible lockdown is over you will see the paediatrician and she will do some simple blood tests and possibly a hip Xray to rule out some stuff. Tbh, I would be ringing the paeds secretary to see if those things can be organised now, before your appt.

Then if they are normal you will be advised to continue with the physio and reassured she is most likely to catch up eventually

Was she premature, is she still a bit chubby, are her muscles a bit floppy and do her feet roll inwards a lot (rolling in a little is normal). What has the physio actually said ?

twinnywinny14 · 06/05/2020 16:50

@Emmavaughan don’t feel bad! I’m a nursery SENCO and it sounds to me like you have done the right things. The GP will only refer to physio and/or paediatrician which you are already known to. Are there any other concerns regarding her development in other areas? What is the rest of her physical development like? Can she sit unaided for example? Does she crawl?

Emmavaughan · 06/05/2020 16:57

@pilates what was your childs underlying problems if you dont mind me asking?

OP posts:
Emmavaughan · 06/05/2020 17:01

@twinnywinny14 her physical development is just like any other 2 year old she didnt start crawling till she was nearly a year but now she just goes along on her knees, her ankles her a bit stiff and her feet always point down

OP posts:
Emmavaughan · 06/05/2020 17:09

@anyfucker she was a full term baby and she is a skinny baby, she had a click on her hip when she was born and had a x-ray but all came back normal, i told physio that her hips and back crack every so offten, if she even trys to stand and pull herself up she stands on the top of her feet, like her feet are backwards if that makes sence and her back is arched and bum stuck out, physio told me she just needs to bulid up the muscles in her legs and built enough confidence to stand i also have a support stand that she goes in to everyday

OP posts:
AnyFucker · 06/05/2020 17:16

Ok. Very unlikely a hip problem then. I would push for blood tests with the paediatrician's secretary. Do you know when the appointment is yet ? There are delays on face to face appts because of Covid but your daughter should start to have some screening checks if she is not weightbearing at age 2.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 06/05/2020 17:22

Can she get her feet flat on the floor at a 90degree angle?
