My little one has just turned 10 months. I just wanted to ask what your routines were for your 10 mo in terms of feeding. Mine is as follows

7:45-9am - morning milk 7oz
12-1pm- porridge made with water
3-4pm - a purée pouch
6-7pm - 7oz milk
9-10pm - 7oz milk

Does this sound ok?

When do you eat? I'd start trying to offer solids at your mealtimes and milk in between. Mine were breastfed so I can't give feed sizes but at that age we did breastfeed first thing (6-7am) then porridge or toast or weetabix for breakfast, nap then milk then lunch (soup/sandwich/pouch) then nap then milk then tea (casserole/meat and mashed veg/curry) then milk then bed.

TooMinty · 24/04/2020 21:50

And breastfeed if they woke night but I think they both slept through mostly by then.

THNG5 · 24/04/2020 21:57

My dd is 11 months tomorrow but since at least 10 months old, she's been on 3 meals a day and an afternoon snack. She has 3 bottles a day (4oz).
I would definitely start giving food at mealtimes with you.

That doesn't sound a huge amount of food (or indeed milk) but I might just have a very hungry baby! DS is 8 months and our routine is:

8am(ish) - Morning bottle (8oz)
9.30am - Breakfast; usually porridge or yoghurt with fruit (either chopped up or purée) and a sprinkle of chia seeds. Sometimes he has both porridge and then some yoghurt.
11.30am - Mid-morning bottle (8oz)
1.30pm - Lunch; today it was a jacket sweet potato with cheese and sour cream followed by some cucumber and strawberry. Often it's leftovers from our dinner.
3.30pm - Mid-afternoon bottle (8oz)
6pm - Tea; varies between a plate of random bits (yesterday was toast fingers, hummus, chopped up veg) and something defrosted from the freezer (today was leftover chicken pie from the weekend). Today it was followed by half a banana and a rice cake while I prepped our dinner.
8.30pm - Bedtime bottle (8oz)

He sometimes skips one of the bottles in the day or doesn't finish the whole thing but it's pretty consistent. I'm quite lazy and basically just give him the same food that we have (minus the salt). So tonight, for example, I made us a grain salad and just scooped out a portion before I added salt and he'll have that tomorrow for lunch. I try to make sure either lunch or tea is something I know he likes (sweet potato, lentils, anything curry) and something new.

mynameiscalypso · 24/04/2020 22:00

Also, why are you making porridge with water? Is your LO dairy free? I was under the impression that babies should be having full fat dairy - I always make porridge with milk.

CookieMumsters · 24/04/2020 22:05

My DS is 8 months, he usually has porridge for breakfast, around 10, then lunch around 1 and dinner around 5. He has a mix of finger food, puree and whatever we're eating. He's breastfed, so has milk whatever he wants but generally after each meal and then frequently in the evening.

dementedpixie · 24/04/2020 22:06

You should really have a 3rd meal and finger foods by now. Have you given meat and dairy and pasta, rice, etc too?

Pickles89 · 24/04/2020 22:08

It sounds a bit random - why not breakfast/lunch/dinner when you have it, and a snack or 2 to fit around naptimes?

hodgepodge21 · 24/04/2020 22:09

My DS is 8 months and is now having 3 meals a day - each including something off a spoon and finger foods. I would have thought at ten months your little one should be on more solids? Could you try and introduce a breakfast and maybe some more foods to self feed with?

decisionsdecision · 24/04/2020 22:09

@mynameiscalypso he's always been a little eater to be honest. He doesn't really ask for anything extra. If he does we will give a melty stick type thing.
We make with water because that's what the instructions say 🙈 we do sometimes put a fruit blend in with it as well.
He only really started food at 8 months as he wasn't interested at all before that point.
We will try adding a 'breakfast' for him. Which yoghurts do you give?

OP posts:
Pickles89 · 24/04/2020 22:10

Also it's really not a balanced diet. By now she should more or less be having what you're having, minus obvious stuff like salt/sugar/honey/high choke-risks. Puree is fine for weaning but it's time more substantial meals now.

decisionsdecision · 24/04/2020 22:11

Thanks all. He only started proper food at 8 months as he would refuse completely before then it's been a slow process.

We will look to introduce a more breakfast time.

We never had a HV after the first visit and all my calls have gone unanswered before now so have had to make it up as we go along

Kennebunkport · 24/04/2020 22:11

You need to be giving solids now. My DD has 7am: 6oz milk, 8am bagel/toast/weetabix, 11am: 6oz milk, 12pm: crumpet/crackers/veg sticks/hummus/leftovers from dinner, 3pm: (just dropped bottle) snack of raisins/oat bar/yoghurt/cheese/toast, 5.15pm: whatever we have for dinner, 7pm: 6oz milk. She's my third and I've done baby-led weaning with all.

mynameiscalypso · 24/04/2020 22:11

We could probably combine our DS to get the perfect eater. Mine shouts at me and starts to try and eat his plate/high chair if I don't feed him fast enough!

In terms of yoghurts, I buy full fat plain natural yoghurt or Greek yoghurt and then add fruit to it. I try not to give flavoured yoghurts because they're generally full of crapZ

decisionsdecision · 24/04/2020 22:15

@Pickles89 he was very slow to start purées would refuse anything and just scream and cry until we stopped it was awful. It's taken a long time to just get to purées. We have now started more lumpy purée with different textures and he will have fish but it's been increasingly difficult.
His nap times originally were for when we ate so we used to follow that although he's teething at the moment so has dropped all his naps or shortened them to 30 mins.

Floofsquidge · 24/04/2020 22:16

11 months old but had same routine since 8 or 9 months:

7-8am wakes up, 7oz bottle
8-9am breakfast, usually toast.
Nap
11-12 bottle
12-1 lunch, yoghurt or purée or sandwiches
Nap
3-4pm bottle
6pm dinner, purée or finger foods
7pm bottle and bed.
Sleeps for 12 hours.

Food before one is just for fun, but my son love his food and gets grouchy if he doesn't have food, especially breakfast. If they're not hungry they won't eat so don't stress if it's offered and refused.

bloodyhellsbellsx · 24/04/2020 22:16

My LO is 10mo too our routine is:

7am 6oz milk
9am porridge and fruit
11am 5oz milk
1pm lunch- eggs, fish cakes, Cali cheese etc followed by chopped fruit and cubed cheese
3pm 5oz milk
6pm tea either what we having or a baby meal followed by yoghurt and cubes of cheese
8pm 8oz milk

I’m going to try drop a milk feed soon, I’ve not had a HV check either so unsure if I’m doing the right thing! If anyone has any lunch and snack ideas I’d love to hear them always looking for new things to try!

Kennebunkport · 24/04/2020 22:16

I recommend Gill Rapley's Baby-Led weaning book. You wouldn't have got much from the HV tbh. I just had a leaflet, which was very brief and didn't talk about quantities. Google is your friend.

RiverMeadow · 24/04/2020 22:17

My 10month old has

6am - breastfeed
7.30am - porridge
10am - snack (slice of toast or strawberries etc)
12pm - pouch of food and a yogurt
2.30pm - breastfeed
3pm - snack (fruit, biscotti)
5pm - fish, peas, potato shapes etc
7pm - breastfeed

Kennebunkport · 24/04/2020 22:27

@bloodyhellsbellsx lunches we've had success with are: scrambled eggs with toast, jacket potatoes, home made pizza, bagel with cheese spread/tuna or cheese slices, pasta salad, wrap with grated cheese/chicken or hummus, pita bread with hummus & veg sticks, dippy egg with soldiers, leftovers from dinner such as lasagne.

mynameiscalypso · 24/04/2020 22:28

I try not to be too fussed on quantities but I try to ensure that there is an iron-rich food at every meal as that's one of the main reasons for needing to start weaning at 6 months.

mynameiscalypso · 24/04/2020 22:29

@bloodyhellsbellsx I accidentally bought a massive amount of orzo pasta pre-lockdown and it's going down really well. I cook it until it's well done and then mix it with pesto and creme fraiche or random veggies or anything really!

Pentium85 · 24/04/2020 22:45

At that age we were having
7am bottle
8:30am porridge made with milk
12:30pm proper lunch
3pm milk
5pm proper dinner
7pm milk

CorkingHell · 24/04/2020 23:11

My 11 month old only really took to food at 8 months, I hadn't been very good tbh. When she hit 8 months I went straight into 3 meals a day, at first she didn't eat much but over the months has really improved.

Now I'm doing this
7am wake
7.30 breakfast and then 7oz bottle
10 little snack (if needed)
11.45 lunch
14.30 7oz bottle
15.30 little snack (if needed)
17.00 dinner
18.30 bedtime feed

If she drinks less of her bottles she needs the snacks. I would get baby into similar eating schedule to you. My nursery does a similar routine and i wanted her to get ready for it

Thismummyruns · 24/04/2020 23:19

11 month old here but routine has been similar for a few months-

7am- 7oz bottle
7.30- toast or crumpet with Philadelphia, small amount of cereal and fruit
9am- nap
10am- snack
11am- lunch- sandwich or hummus generally with fruit
12pm- 7oz bottle
1pm- nap
3.30pm- snack
4.30pm- family dinner, whatever we're having
6pm- 7oz bottle
