She's fallen out with me because at the Orthodontist this morning, he told her she needed 4 teeth out and train track braces for 2 years. Then the stupid eejit of a man said it was up to her and she didn't have to have them if she didn't want them!! you would imagine that dealing with children every day would give him some idea of what not to say, wouldn't you?

Anyway I've told her she has to have them now and not wait etc because I know that she's better off getting it out of the way, not when she's 15/16 (she's 11 btw) so now she's not talking to me

How can I get her to appreciate that she will thank me in 2 years time? Can't stand it when she's cross with me cos I am pathetic I know!

You are so welcome Wisteria I'm sure she'll be just fine.

Squirdle - they usually do an impression first - a mould of the teeth so they can make the brace to fit - has he had that done yet?

I have got train tracks and now DS has them

He had head gear beforehand

He has RED bands on the train tracks

you can choose what colour you want and they get changed every 6 weeks anyway

Loads of kids round here wear them and DS is pleased that people are commenting nicely about his rather than calling him horrible names as they did before

My dentist wouldn't let me have braces when I was young. He said the idea of perfectly straight teeth was a very American one.

I wish he had let me though. Every dentist I have had since then has said they would have done it but I don't fancy the idea of braces at 24 now

I meant to add, your dd will thank you for it when she is older

i would prefer to have them younger. at 15/16 she's going to be getting interested in boys and wish she'd had them sooner.
