A new start with cloth night nappies

Ok so I'm still having dilemmas over ds' night nappy. I used cloth almost from the start at night but after going on holiday and using disposables and then putting him in the the remaining disposables at night to get rid of them.. I've lost my night nappy confidence! He's a big pee-er and a bimble qd inside a bambineo size 2 used to do him (but soaking in the morning although not through the wrap or anything) but dh complains it's too clumsy/ awkward blah blah blah.

I've decided to get a couple of dedicated night nappies instead of the mix and match from day nappies I was doing before.. I have a minki pocket and a huggle hopefully winging their way to me as I type. I have a ton of microfibre inserts for my wonderoos that I can use, can anyone advise how much stuffin these nappies might need?

Can't wait to try them out!!!

Be careful not to overstuff pocket nappies, or they will leak. I use a small prefold wrapped round a hemp booster in a minki during the day, but it wouldn't do dd for night - she wees for Wales . A friend of my mine puts a microfibre cloth in a huggle for nights.

If you need a couple of prefolds, let me know: I have squillions, I'll send you a couple for the cost of postage.

is it a slinki or a standard pocket. the standards are HUGE. even the slinkis i find have plenty of room so basically you can do a pick n mix of whatever you have but i would definately suggest a bamboo terry folded up

SAHMof1 · 12/09/2007 23:00

A Huggle works for my son with no extra stuffing/booster. It just needs a larger wrap than in the day time.

Huggles are fab - baby's bottom will look the size of a house though...

daisyandbabybootoo · 12/09/2007 23:11

Have you tried bumhuggers? The new ones have a pull out soaker and a pocket for stuffing. They are very very thirsty. I've been using the medium ones on my 14 week old DD without any extra boosting and they are still dry around the waist after 12+ hours.

maveta · 13/09/2007 14:37

daisy - i saw on another thread that you were getting on well with bumhuggers but have seen mixed reviews of them.. esp. re. going hard in hard water areas and our water is VERY hard.

dh changed the nappy last night after only 4 hours (I don´t know why, he wasn´t even wet!) and put him in a disposable.. will try again tonight. And hide the disposables

i swear on disane pull up wrap for over night nappy!no leaks for us ever!really amazing and as wool dont need washing daily just airing.we have 2 on the go at a time.

bagpuss · 13/09/2007 14:41

I would put a terry of some kind pad folded in the minki, maybe with some microfibre cloths in the center. Agree that disana are very good wool wraps and cheap too.

Roskva · 13/09/2007 16:31

slight hijack, but the wool buffs might know the answer to this: how long do you need to soak wool wraps in lanolin? the bottle of the stuff I've got doesn't say

bagpuss · 13/09/2007 16:35

For a new wrap I do it all day (or until dh complains about the weird nappy in the sink in the en-suite bathroom ). For a wrap that has been done a few times, a couple of hours seems sufficient to top it up.

LizaRose · 13/09/2007 16:36

Most sources say several hours or overnight. People I have chatted to often only use 2 hours or so if it is an item which has been lanolised before.

Roskva · 13/09/2007 16:36

thank you

I do it overnight

daisyandbabybootoo · 13/09/2007 16:41

maveta, I got some second hand bumhuggers which were quite hard, but I've used vinegar and tumble dried them once or twice and this has softened them up again. they're still not as soft as the new ones I've just bought though, so I can see your concerns. My new ones are deliciously soft though!

morocco · 13/09/2007 16:48

the new bumhuggers seem to cope better with hard water, perhaps they've changed the mix of hemp/cotton or maybe i was just buying really knackered second hand ones? anyhow, can say my new bumhuggers are not remotely hard even though my old ones are a bit on the cardboardy side
i wouldn't change them for the world for nighttime nappies, they are fab

nappyzone · 13/09/2007 19:16

i have no idea what water i have (its wet) but my bumhugger is soft and fantastic! i loe it! Anyway on inserts i have in stock now and have used those bamboo ptis dessoous inserts - very good - very long to fold over and one in my minki std alone with no other stuff in there did the job - i was impressed.

maveta · 13/09/2007 19:25

lol nappyzone - your water can´t be too hard if you aren´t sure.. ime you KNOW if you have hard water, soap doesn´t foam easily and nappies go very crunchy! lol

Okay, I am intrigued by the bumhuggers but will see how I get on with the minkis before I do any more ordering..

OP posts:
nappyzone · 13/09/2007 20:50

it must be soft then as i dont have any crunch - im in stockton if anyone else is maybe they can tell me lol!

NappiesGalore · 13/09/2007 22:09

nappyzone - you are 21??

[tucks zone protectively under wing] (as if you need it! from me!!)

nappyzone · 14/09/2007 19:06

oh no lol - pmsl - i changed it weeks ago as flame told her age and i felt a bit decrepid - i will change it back lol - im actually (whispers so knowone can here shhhhh 31!), actually i think i might leave it at 21 for a bit!!! .

I started my new job on wed and told everyone i was 27 - got away with it till HR rang (where i used to work and a good friend grassed me up!!!!) grrrrrrrrr

NappiesGalore · 14/09/2007 21:59

oh right (!)
31 is normal.
i am 31.
therefore it is normal.

[idiot]

nappyzone · 14/09/2007 22:08

no thats what i feel now lol! anyway 31 is great! wise but young well maybe not wise! rather be 28 though as i prefered being 20 someting! normal it is!

spugs · 17/09/2007 15:33

i use a huggle with a hemp insert stuffed in (cant remember what kind but theres 7 layers in all and they ahve a smaller bit you take out) then she has a pair of wool longys over the top. shes 16 mths old and wees lots but this is a really good system i find.

spugs · 17/09/2007 15:38

nappy zone - im in sunderland and our water is medium apparently

i always lanolise mine for about 24 hrs and ive never had leakage, they dont seem to need washing that often either. i have a dinsana (sp) and tehy are bizzare looking but great you cant beat woolywraps though imo especially the trs ones.
