People stock buying baby milk

I've been to local supermarkets, boots and where I am people are buying it all. All out of stock due to corona virus.
I dont want to join the panic, but looking like I'm going to have to, my baby has milk for the next 3 weeks, but do you think its going to get worse, will the milk run out?,

Will they eventually shut shops down? Or do you think it will be in constant supply? Just really worried.

Shes 8 months old and is eating proper food but not enough to keep her strong. At that playing and learning stage

No advice really , but we had the same around here with nappies and wipes. I ended up bulk buying online as I started to worry.

Nammech111 · 14/03/2020 19:28

I can't even get it online!! They are saying out of stock. Worst comes to worst with nappies it's not the end of the world I will make the old fashion type. But milk I'm worried about.

If I were you I’d buy some as soon as you can, maybe try amazon. My baby is 13 months now so is on whole milk, but I bought a few cartons of UHT today just in case.

Amazon seem to have different packaging and twice the price. Got all family members on look out. Horrendous what its come to. But I get everyone is now bulk buying because they have to, domino affect.

In three weeks she’ll be basically 9 months so you can up the food to make what you have last longer and if there’s no supplies ask a health visitor about moving on to cows milk? Earlier than you would normally do it but not so bad for a baby of that age rather than a newborn. Or follow-on milk if you can get hold of it?

LamingtonBear · 14/03/2020 19:35

At that playing and learning stage aren't all babies and children doing this?

Just buy any first milk, that's all babies need until they reach 1 year, and then cow's milk. I thought formula was limited to how much you can buy in one go.

Nammech111 · 14/03/2020 19:43

@Michaelbaubles I give her lots of food to try but she squished it about more and throws it but yeah soon hopefully she will take more.

@LamingtonBear . She is now having more finger food instead of spoon feeding and learning to explore. So most things are going over the side of the high chair. She eats her breakfast and dinner, small amount. Not enough to keep her going yet.

I think they might be starting to now. The shelves are empty. Hopefully when they re stock it will be limited.

We have the same issue with formula for my 12 week old granddaughter, all the family is on the look out and we have managed to get 3 tubs from various places. ‘Just buy any first milk’ doesn’t work - there are none at all!!

There does seem to be quite a bit of follow on milk on the shelves round here, if you can get some that?

hvnc · 14/03/2020 19:43

On the positive side your little one will be 9 months before you run out and would ideally be on 3 meals per day at that point anyway.

No it's not perfect, but you could give cows milk in a bottle, I would advise no more than 8oz per day. You can give 2 extra snacks and water. I would also suggest you go to your local clinic and buy healthy start vitamins (usually £2.60) or a multi vitamin that contains vitamin D to give your baby alongside the cows milk as they will not be getting it from formula.

I'm sure in 3 weeks though you will have found some formula, but please don't buy more than you need. I am more worried about younger infants, I have no idea what we will do for them.

Nammech111 · 14/03/2020 19:48

@bazookapie, I have seen follow on, what ages is that for and what's the difference from the younger one, less vitamins?

I couldn't imagine a 12 week old, they need it so much more, hopefully stock starts getting limited and we will all be ok.

@hvnc thank you thats really helpful.
She will have breakfast dinner and a snack in the afternoon, it's just she only has a little bit. Maybe she knows shes got bottles on demand and waits lol

In crisis time's like this is have no qualms putting mine on cows milk at that age if they can't get anything else (although I'd probably look for follow on or even toddler milk first), but I do worry for all the tiny babies who aren't on solids yet. It really won't be fair on them

maryberryslayers · 14/03/2020 19:49

Boots have plenty in stock online, you can use 'follow on' milk also.
If you need a specific one just get to boots first thing as they restock over night.

Jobseeker19 · 14/03/2020 19:50

Maybe worse case scenario you can get it on prescription.

cheesegrate · 14/03/2020 19:50

*I'd

Nammech111 · 14/03/2020 19:51

I am lucky shes that bit older. Not ideal but by reading your comments I can get around it a little. Even though she cant have much cows milk.

I will read up on follow on milk

This one is from 6 months

Mammyloveswine · 14/03/2020 19:53

Follow on milk is for 6 months plus...

Nammech111 · 14/03/2020 19:54

Right great, I have more options now and I have seen follow on milk in shops but I just had my head on looking for the other milk. Thanks

My partner is on ebay and there is people selling the milk for TRIPLE the price and are all fresh accounts, never sold before. Sick. If I had enough milk and knew someone who didn't I would help.

polkadotpixie · 14/03/2020 19:57

What milk is she on? There was piles and piles of Aptamil 1 in my local Costco earlier but not a great deal of choice in Tesco

Nammech111 · 14/03/2020 19:57

Cow and gate hungrier babies. Seems to be a popular one

Bazookapie · 14/03/2020 20:07

Follow on is apparently a marketing ploy by the companies as they aren’t allowed to advertise first milk, its suitable from 6 months. DGD is on C&G First but we have also managed to get a couple of Aptamil. Places do seem to restock but it’s just about gone by the time we get there, hence only getting 3 from 3 different shops.

Boots online was out of stock for a few days but I’ve now managed to get a couple for collection on Monday, fingers crossed I don’t get an email saying they can’t fulfil my order! If we can get these 2 we can relax a bit.

Hope you get something for your little one.

Chinks123 · 14/03/2020 20:11

That’s the milk ds Is on op. People are stockpiling it here too, but I did find it in Tesco and the co op. Hope you manage to get some.

Horehound · 14/03/2020 20:18

Shops won't close op even if there's a lockdown

yikesanotherbooboo · 14/03/2020 20:26

OP. There will be milk and you have a good supply yourself already. . If you buy more now you are compounding the problem. Try not to worry .
