How often do you bath your kids?

I have a 2 and 3 year old. I’m just wondering how often people bath their kids?

Kids all go for a bath 3-4 times a week but hair is washed in each bath too. Curious why some folk one wash hair once a week? Does it not get smelly and greasy?

@strawberrysundayss I bath the same amount as my kids, occasionally more if it’s hot. But I sweat more than my kids and am more likely to look dirty and unclean than they are.

Hey when DS was small, I did nightly but his skin became dry and eczema prone. Hence I replaced bath time with massaging whilst putting on cream every other night whilst he was a baby (he’s 2.5 now). Since bathing less often, his skin copes much better. So we still do every other night roughly. However if he gets very dirty, he’ll get an extra bath here and there - and if a particularly busy day, he may miss a bath. Probably always around 3-4 baths a week one way or another...

DD has always had really sensitive skin and bathing her regularly really aggravated it, so full wash every day but a bath only 2-3 nights a week.

Once a week.

Fishbaby · 10/03/2020 02:31

My baby currently twice a week and top and tail every morning. When she gets bigger and more active might need more. I read with babies you shouldn't wash every day... They need some germs.

FoxEars · 10/03/2020 05:39

Every single day. Without fail.

Burgerandchipvan · 10/03/2020 08:12

Everyday. DS loves a bath.

NemophilistRebel · 10/03/2020 08:12

3 times a week for 2.5 year old

Divebar · 10/03/2020 09:17

5 times a week at the moment but she’s 7. I imagine when she hits puberty it will need to be daily. I think any child in nappies who comes into contact with wee / poo needs their bottoms washing with soap and water in which case you may as well give them a bath. I think most ( not all) babies and children love bath time too.

I bath my dd (19 months) every other night, sometimes every 3rd night, she gets quite bad eczema if I do it every day so it's much better to bath less frequently. Hair washed each bath though. Shes gets a good hand and face scrub several times a day(after each meal)

Showmeyourhero · 10/03/2020 09:31

Every night as part of his bedtime routine, he's 4. On the very occasional night we're out late or he's super tired then it's a bath the following morning.

troppibambini · 10/03/2020 09:33

Every night. It's part of their bedtime routine.

Firecracker2019 · 10/03/2020 09:34

My preschooler showers properly after swimming once a week and has one shower or bath apart from that every week too. They also have a bottom wash every morning as still in nappies overnight. Their skin is quite dry and irritated by frequent washing.

My Yr3 child has a proper shower twice a week after swimming, a shower after rugby and one other shower or bath a week. More than enough!

OrganicSmorganic · 10/03/2020 09:36

Mine are all pre teens and they have a bath or a shower 2x a week.

The girls wash their hair once a week.

When they get into the teens or when they starts to smell of B.O then they will probably have a shower everyday.

Once a week on Sunday. Flannel wash rest of week. He’s never had nappy rash and has nice skin.

maa1992 · 10/03/2020 09:51

My DS is 5 months, I bathe him every day... he has eczema and the doctor said to continue doing so but sometimes I feel like it's too much?

AddressLabel · 10/03/2020 09:55

Surely a bath everyday will aggrevate skin conditions? I think we shower too much, but I have to or my hair is skank. Once a week I wash sons hair and that’s because of swimming. Flannel wash every day I think is enough. Same, flannel wash after mucky play/food.

@strawberrysundayss
I bathe the kids 2-3 times a week. I shower every other day.

My reasoning is largely that I sweat and if I don’t shower I smell of BO and also my hair goes greasy.
My kids still smell fine and their hair stays lovely and soft. They really just get grubby hands & face but we flannel wash twice daily.

Also it’s a mad rush to collect from childcare, do evening meal, and fit in a bath before bed every day.

NoNeedToBeRudeDear · 10/03/2020 10:55

18 month twins. Every night. They love their bathSmile

NoNeedToBeRudeDear · 10/03/2020 10:56

My little boy does get quite dry skin but his bath is part of his routine and he doesn’t settle without it!

Natsku · 10/03/2020 11:34

2 year old and 9 year old have a shower twice a week on average, more if needed. Sauna once a week usually for a proper clean. 9 year old is on the verge of needing daily showers.

shutupsteph · 10/03/2020 12:05

I have a 6 week old - how often should I be bathing him? At the moment it's 2-3 times a week

Phifedean123 · 10/03/2020 12:29

Every other day unless it's been a particularly mucky nursery day. Two year old loves the bath but it can dry his skin out a bit

strawberrysundayss · 11/03/2020 19:44

Ok further question. For those with dry skin/ skin conditions who bathe less frequently as a result, do how use any creams on babies skin after bathing? Usually eczema creams are prescribed, are those effective at all?
