Fab activity to remain sitting on the sofa while your children get wildly excited and make you feel like a superb parent

We have tied a basket on a piece of rope and ds has hung it out of the bedroom window. I am down below (on sofa) and have a stash of things next to me which I am putting into the basket (out of the window) when he lowers it down. He then pulls it up and shrieks with delight.

So far I have put snacks, a letter with his name on and a drawing of us inside, a recorder, some stickers and a notebook, some playmobil people, etc etc etc

the apple came a cropper, but otherwise all is well and he is SO EXCITED and keeps shouting "Thank you mummy oh thank you!"

teaching kids to play at upstairs windows sounds kind of dangerous

i cant do that. i dont have an 'upstairs'

How many children do you have? Would give this a go but can see ds1 attempting to lower ds2 down from his window...

Sounds brill! we did an activity at our playgroup with a line and a basket and pulley and the kids keep asking when we can do it again

This reminds me of the time we built a lift so our playmobil people could go up and down stairs. It made their lives much more exciting, too

agree with hector, just so you've arranged it so its safe this time doesn't mean that enxt time when you're not in the room your child won't be thinking what fun it is to play tat an open upstairs window

although i know from many moons of lurking and occastional posting that you are one of the mumsnetters who must never be crossed and whos idea of parenting is always right it sounds very dangerous

There is one small high up window which is open and which no one short of a monkey could get through

the side window is shut and locked, as usual

godd for you that your windows are small, does your child never go to other peoples houses to play? can you really not see how it could be a dangerous pursiot?

going to the park - no, as dc might run in road if you don't hold their hand

making playdough on the stove - no, as child may decide cooking by themselves is fun and burn house down

reading books - risky as child may hit themselves over head with them, or alternatively, may learn to read and write, go on MN and slag off random posters as having a bad day

you are outside on a sofa?

playing near an upstairs window is definitaly not safe though as it is something a child will do daily unsupervised

oven and roads are always supervised
