We have tied a basket on a piece of rope and ds has hung it out of the bedroom window. I am down below (on sofa) and have a stash of things next to me which I am putting into the basket (out of the window) when he lowers it down. He then pulls it up and shrieks with delight.

So far I have put snacks, a letter with his name on and a drawing of us inside, a recorder, some stickers and a notebook, some playmobil people, etc etc etc

the apple came a cropper, but otherwise all is well and he is SO EXCITED and keeps shouting "Thank you mummy oh thank you!"

sorry np I am inside, next to a large open window through which I can lean

ds is upstairs next to a very small hig up window through which a basket but not a person can fit

he does play up there and has a great time and can't hurt himself

we are having a lot of fun, sorry some other people think it is a bad idea but we're enjoying it

mine sit on the window ledge to watch the rain

I was upstairs sorting dd1 out in the bath, dd2 downstairs with dh (or so I thought)

she sneaked up to say boo but found the window open in dd1's room, I heard her as she was reaching out to 'catch raindrops mummy'

personally windows are one of my bugbears

sounds a nice idea! i like to hang soft toys out of the window on a bit of string when they're all sitting watching dr who. frightens the life out of them hehehe

frannyandzooey you forgot to mention the DC might eat the playdough LOL

I think it sounds like a great game and as you have ensured it is safe I dont see why its a problem if the child was sitting in a treehouse or on a climbing frame would any comments be made, I think not

Anyway enjoy your game wish I could join in!

"playing near an upstairs window is definitaly not safe though as it is something a child will do daily unsupervised

oven and roads are always supervised "

Bit of a generalisation, Mud. It depends on your domestic set-up.
In my house it would be easier to keep dcs away from openable upstairs windows than to keep them away from the cooker.

I think it's a great idea Franny. Of course there are safety issues but I have taken them as read - would be a tad patronising if you had ended your post with, 'Now, remember, playing at upstairs windows is dangerous so you must only do this if you are sure your children can't fall out....'

I had a scare once olive when ds was just old enough to climb on the sofa (had just learnt that day which I did not know)

he was standing on the downstairs windowsill - very large picture window - yikes

all upstairs windows safe, the downstairs one is the dodgy one bizarrely

Sounds fun

I love it when they get all excited!

Yesterday it was wet when dd came home from school & I made her change her clothes. She asked if she could wear shorts And even though it was pissing from high heaven I said yes..she was thrilled!

when dh was little, he used to take the head off his action men, fill it with tomato ketchup, put it back and throw them headfirst from the upstairs window

We used to do similar when I was a kid - my sister would lower tasks down to me in a bucket and I would end up cleaning mirrors etc

This was out of a big, bottom opening sash window - we survived

ROFL Lucykate.
I used to take Barbie round to my friend's who had a pond and an Action Man helicopter. We filled Barbie's head with polystyrene granules so she would float properly and climbed on the tree above the pond and rescued her with the helicopter.

franny, if you are bored now, i would suggest that you could send him the telly remote up in the basket, but i'm pretty sure you don't have a tv
