What's the age gap between your children?

What's the age gap between your children and how 'happy' are you with that gap?

I'm TTC number two and am aiming for a particular age gap... I don't want them too far apart and this is putting pressure on me! What age gap did you have and how do you feel about it?

I have a 5 year old and am heavily pregnant with my second. I wanted a larger gap because I wanted them to have lots of attention from me when they are young (as I come from a family of 4 of us, all close in age, and always felt that I wasnt give on much attention because of that). Personal preference though!

15 months if everything in this pregnancy goes as it should. Both girls. I hope they have a close sisterly relationship that I didn’t get but I know nothing is guaranteed.

DH has a brother 12 years younger and they get along really well

6 year gap and I find they get on much better than some of my friends dc who have 2/3 year gaps. Eldest is a teen now and they still get on amazingly

DD1 is 14, DD2 is 11 & DD3 is 15 months. There is 2 years and 10 months between DD1 & DD2. DD3 was born exactly 1 week after DD2's 10th birthday.

There's 16 months between my first two, then just under 2 and a half years between my second and third. So less than four years between first and third. I wanted to have them fairly close together, get the early years over and done with, but I got pregnant with DC2 much more quickly than I expected to.

This thread is handy.

My son will be 4 in April. The plan was to start trying for number two now, but I've just been made redundant.

Thinking of putting it off for another year - will a five year age gap be too much?!

Spanneroo · 30/01/2020 18:35

We were aiming for 18-24months between DD1 and DD2. It ended up taking over a year to conceive (DD1 was first time) and there's exactly 3 years between them. 2 years, 7 months between DD2 and DD3, and 4 minutes between DD3 and DS Grin

So far, the older girls have always got on brilliantly and they play really nicely. IMO the gap works well because they're close enough to play well, but far enough apart to not compete/get on top of each other. DD2 and the twins' gap is absolutely BRUTAL. I'm hoping it improves significantly in the next few months (They're only 7 weeks at the moment!)

22 months between DC1 and DC2 and 24 months between DC2 and DC3. I like having them close in age but 3 under 4 was pretty intense!

SomethingSpecialzz · 30/01/2020 18:42

17 months between mine, which has been lovely all the way through.

1 school year.

However, one settling slowly into a new 6th form/whilst thinking about unis and one doing GCSEs this summer/whilst looking at 6th forms and it is beyond stressful.

2 years is awful. You get GCSEs and A levels at the same time. I think it's nicer for each kid to get a chance to be the baby/toddler and not be pushed along by a younger sibling before they are ready. I think 3 years is probably ideal. Mine were 4 years apart and that's still fine.
