Are you the kind of parent you expected to be?

Prompted by another thread. I find myself (my DS is 5 months) being much stricter than I ever thought I would be and I'm quite surprised by myself. Although I obviously don't tell my DS off yet (he's 5 months FGS ) I have been very keen on introducing a routine from very early on and not bfing him at night if he's not having a growth spurt now he's capable of sleeping through. I think this is partly because I'm a single mum so need him to sleep and have a bedtime otherwise I think I'd lose my mind.

Are you more or less strict than you expected?

No, I'm a worrier asnd I never expected to be. I am quite firm and have far more patience than I thought I would have

Much worse.

where love is concerned i excel at it. i never thought i could adore someone or something as much as i adore my kids.

but i am rantier than i should be, scatty and disorganised. i am however, a better mum than my mum so im ok with it

I agree with SmileyPeeples, I thought I'd be this amazing earth mother doing all sorts of creative and educational things with my son but I do get bored with it and am thinking of going back to work a couple of days a week so he can get that creative stuff with someone else. Not as happy being a mum as I thought I would be, but I love my son to bits.

I thought I would be strict and organised but I found am chilled out and relaxed generally more of a 'hippy' attitude to parenting. I naturally fell into attachment parenting which is not something I thought I would do.

I decided a long time ago I'd never be like my mother was....and happily, I'm not, so I would say yes, I am the kind of parent I expected I would be.

Like clairblair I thought I would do loads of crafts, baking etc - but then I discovered MN

Went around to a friend's house yesterday and felt really guilty - it is always immaculate, she had baked a load of biscuits and this is in spite of her dh working long hours and having three dcs including a baby

The only thing I expected was to be out skiing with DS1 in a creche at 8weeks

I also planned to go back to med school when he was a year, but I've given all that up until DS2 (waaargh - how did he happen?!) is at least 4.
My parenting style (probably AP-ish) is what I planned.
