Remove baby poo stains

Hi, I'm a first time poster so I'm not sure if this is in the right section.

I'm a first time mum. DD is 4 months. She's starting to sit up and likes to poo while sitting up. Her poo ends up all on her back and through her clothes rather than in the nappy.

I use fairy non bio for her washing but it doesn't seem to get of the poo stain.

Can anyone please advise on I can use to get rid of the poo stains.

Many thanks xx

Soak them first in a bio powder/liquid or Vanish powder and then wash them in Fairy.

SproutsAreForLife · 29/12/2019 17:13

Napisan.

fannyanney · 29/12/2019 17:38

Napisan! Make up a bucket/basin of hot water and napisan and soak the stained clothes for a while. Scrub the stained bits with some of the mix if you need to.

If you get any sunlight that also helps get rid of stains. Napisan is excellent. I always used bio wash stuff as non-bio doesn't have the enzymes that break down the poo. If your baby has sensitive skin you could always rewash just her clothes but otherwise the napisan should be enough.

Vanish has been doing the trick so far. It might take a couple of attempts, but it gets there in the end.

Also, since it's only the vests that have been affected so far, I don't mind the stains so much

Greenteandchives · 29/12/2019 17:44

Hang out on a line if you can. Sunlight will get rid of baby poo stains like magic.

bastedyoungturkey · 29/12/2019 17:46

Sunlight definitely - if you’ve got a window that gets direct sunlight I used to put the things on the windowsill for a couple of days and the stain would be bleached away.

BertieBotts · 29/12/2019 17:46

Bio powder is fine and shouldn't irritate her. It works better.

Also something like Vanish and drying them next to a window so the sunlight falls on the stain, the combination including the UV seems to help a lot. Same for weaning food stains BTW.

MrsW85 · 29/12/2019 17:46

Hang outside. The natural sunlight gets it all out. It might take a few days but it works

Get it in a hot wash as soon as possible, no waiting around! Plus buy cheap baby grows, I threw out a lot or cut some up to use as rags if slightly salvageable

Sleepycat91 · 29/12/2019 18:33

My DS was getting poo on everything, my nan and mum used the "elbow grease" cleaner on the bags full of washing we were going through and it got everything out. I washed something with non bio and it was still stained, gave it to my nan and she got it straight out

SparkyBlue · 29/12/2019 18:35

Sunlight is the absolute best thing to remove stains but obviously not much about this time of year.

HearMeSnore · 29/12/2019 18:56

I used to throw them in the machine on a short, cold wash to remove loose (pardon the pun) residue.

Then while the clothes are still wet, rub with a bar of vanish and squish it well into the fabric.

Back in the machine with the next load of washing, as high a temp as the clothes will stand, with Fairy Non-bio.

(I used Fairy because DH and DD both have sensitive skin. If that's not an issue in your family then a bio powder might be a good alternative as long as you do a good long rinse.)

Then out on the line in full sun, if available.

strawberry2017 · 29/12/2019 18:57

Elbow grease - the spray not you actually scrubbing it for hours x

mumofone94 · 29/12/2019 19:21

So far most of the stains have come out with vanish. Very faint yellow on the white vest.

Just put it in the wash with non bio and hopefully it's good as new.

How long did you leave it to soak in vanish ? I sometimes leave it 24 hours and then put in the washing machine with another scoop of vanish also. That’s saved most of my DS clothes although lately i have been throwing out plain white vests as we are about to size up anyway.

mumofone94 · 30/12/2019 18:05

@BellaNutella88 I soaked it in vanish for about 2 hours the day before I posted this thread. But there was still poo on them.

I soaked it in vanish again yesterday for about maybe an hour or so and there was a big improvement.

There is still a slight tint of yellow but it isn't noticeable unless it's pointed out.

Sunlight is the best way - sounds daft but it works.

BellaNutella88 · 30/12/2019 18:09

That’s fine then I’d say. The vanish box does say to only soak for a few hours but I soaked it for a whole day as it was the second time the particular item had been pooed on (always the cute one !) and I thought if it doesn’t come out I’ll throw it anyway so chanced it losing the colour. It didn’t lose any colour and was as good as new even on the white parts.

Liland · 30/12/2019 18:51

Vanish spray 100%! Soaking didnt work for me on poop or nutramigen vomit, but the spray (from the pound shop) is foolproof on everything except tomato based sauces so far! And we have daily poop and vomit explosions still at 11 months ;)

TryingToBeBold · 31/12/2019 15:27

Vanish Powder.

Get stain wet, rub in vanish powder. Soak overnight (or until next wash). Wash normally with scoop of vanish powder for luck!

Biscuitsandteaplease · 01/01/2020 15:13

Napisan is amazing!!!

mumofone94 · 01/01/2020 17:03

@Biscuitsandteaplease I want to try napisan. Popped to sainsburys and they didn't have any. Never thought I'd see the day where I would be excited to remove poo of clothing lol
