Your favourite bit of having a baby.

Feeling a bit poorly today, horrendous trapped wind pain. 26weeks and the post 20week scan blues are setting in.

I just can’t wait to meet her and do all the jobs that everyone hates, I can’t wait to change nappies, I can’t wait for baths and I’m even excited for waking up in the night to tend to her. I can’t believe she’s going to be ours not long after the new year.

So because I’m feeling like a bag of white potatoes. I wanna lie in bed feeling her wriggle and read some of the moment you’ve loved about bringing baby home and the newborn stage.

I know the novelty of all these jobs will wear off very quickly, as everybody keeps telling when when I tell them I’m excited to just care for her. But it’s exciting here and now.

Give me your favourite new born moments please!

I would say seeing him doing new things such as rolling over and showing him new things now he is starting to notice things like animals etc. Also love walks with the pram, him splashing in the bath and swimming pool and when he makes cute little noises (not the shouting/moaning though!)

I like this thread as it has made me think of all the positives Smile

Lessthanzero · 11/10/2019 23:00

They look into your eyes with so much love. They actually think you're the best thing ever.

And as others have said, the cuddles. The endless warm lovley no one else in the world, fuck the house work cuddles.

Sparkle733 · 11/10/2019 23:03

Seeing your newborn baby for the first time.
The cuddles are just the best especially when they fall asleep on your chest.
When they smile, gaze at you and follow you around the room.
So many precious things Smile

Getting stuck under a sleeping baby and so having to have a rest and ignore all the house jobs. Her smiling up at me with her mouth around my nipple (surreal but special). Her tiny soft feet. Giggles. Seeing her stare up at her daddy. Her tiny hand grabbing my finger. Special nighttime one on one time (on the nights when we only get one). Being a proud mummy when everyone stops us to say how gorgeous she is. Realising my new superpower is telling the difference between a fart and a poo by smell (people swear it has to be poo with the smells that comes out of her but I know it's not!). Watching her sleep. And so much more.

StathLetsFlats · 11/10/2019 23:08

Some babies sleep all night from the start, both mine did. They also did not have major toddler tantrums. They were arseholes as teenagers though, so there is that. I loved all aspects of the baby years, it was a magical time.

Sunshine1235 · 11/10/2019 23:09

The moment you first see them after labour - such an amazing and surreal moment

Rubyduby26 · 11/10/2019 23:10

My DS is 18 months now but when he was a newborn I loved baby wearing! I have soo many lovely memories of wearing him basically all day as he loved to be close and he wouldn't really sleep if I put him down! It was like a little cocoon where he was snuggled and safe and I had the lovely baby smell all day long Smile

He still loves to be close and we co-sleep now he's bigger Smile poor daddy has been banished to the spare room lol!

It really does get better as they grow too! Seeing them learn new words and do new things is amazing, and everything is interesting to them! We picked loads of conkers yesterday and peeling the shells off and finding a conker inside was the most amazing thing ever to DS!

Congratulations and enjoy every moment as it flies by!

ParrotsForLife · 11/10/2019 23:12

They was he just fitted onto my chest and just slept and all the little noises he made

He’s two now and runs head first at me shouting ‘cuddles’ and I fucking love it.

Miztique · 11/10/2019 23:12

It takes a lot to make me cry, and literally never ever in public, but when they handed me my baby after 27 hours of labourand told me she was perfect, it really was the most amazing feeling in the world, and I literally balled and balled. I love her so much and she makes me smile, and now laugh (hilarious 1 year old) every single day

Heartofglass12345 · 11/10/2019 23:12

I loved the baby stage. I loved sniffing them, cuddling them, everything. My babies are now 3 and 6 Sad I would have another one if I could keep it a baby lol. I used to love people stopping and talking to too. My youngest was meant to be a New Year's Day baby but it's his birthday in a month! Enjoy Smile

Chocmallows · 11/10/2019 23:12

When you are distracted by a non-baby conversation a few weeks in then look down and see them and all over again feel amazed that they are out and healthy and yours.

When they scream and you try everything, pop them in a crib and walk out to quietly scream and they go suddenly quiet, so you worry they are ok and go back in...All the stress goes as you see them happy again It's a rollercoaster of emotions

rainbowlou · 11/10/2019 23:12

My ‘baby’ is now 10 and going in to wake him up takes me back in time every morning...he is so warm and snuggly and looks just like a bigger version of how he did 10 years ago so I can’t help but sneak on for a 5 minute cuddle before we have to get up 🥰

ZenNudist · 11/10/2019 23:13

When they turn 9.

ReggaetonLente · 11/10/2019 23:14

I loved DD's little startles - her Moro reflex. We often reminisce about it.

The first smile. I will never forget that moment.

rhowton · 11/10/2019 23:15

If you think having a newborn will be amazing.... just you wait... my two year old is literally the most amazing, sassy, bright, chatty arsehole that I have ever had the pleasure of knowing!! Terrible twos... yes... but when she rolls her eyes at me, I can't help but feel so proud as she is 100% my child ! It's so hard but my god it's fun!

Bookaholic73 · 11/10/2019 23:15

The best bit about having a baby is when they grow up and leave home Grin

LittleTopic · 11/10/2019 23:16

Oh, goodness. The first time you pop your head into their cot in the morning and are greeted with a big toothless smile.

The cuddles! When they fall asleep on with their head on your shoulder.

Watching them grow is amazing. I miss my snuggly newborn but I burst every time DD does something new.

DD is 5 months and starting to react to the world around her much more. Last week, DH used the hoover. It startled her and she held onto me for dear life and buried her head into my side. That one was awesome - knowing you’re their safe place.

Oh, I have another! She’s started turning to look at me when she’s excited/interested by something new. The looking up at you in wonder with big baby eyes kills me.

goes off to wake up sleeping baby for big squeezy hug

elliejjtiny · 11/10/2019 23:17

When they fall asleep on you
When they turn towards your voice
When they half wake up, stretch out a tiny hand and then go back to sleep
When you think you're making a mess of things and they look at you like you're the best mummy ever
When you're walking with the pram and people stop to admire the baby.

I want another one now Grin

Podemos · 11/10/2019 23:17

When you've had no sleep, not showered, no makeup on and look like absolute shit and they look at you and smile like you are the most beautiful thing ever.

LittleTopic · 11/10/2019 23:18

@DoubtingMyPatience also, “terrible twos” can be hilarious. My mum and I still crack up at the memory of my brother screaming “FUCK SAKE” whenever he was angry at something. My Dad swears he didn’t learn that from him Grin

SaddleGoose · 11/10/2019 23:21

Oh the smell of their heads. I just breathed it in constantly.

The cuddles. DS is only just one so I still get them but he wriggles off me pretty quick! Sob.

Sometimes, I like getting up in the night to see to him...I miss himBlush

I really love choosing his outfits, it's only ever leggings and a T-shirt but it's fun!

You've got so many wonderful moments to comeSmile

Clayplease · 11/10/2019 23:23

@Podemos 😍😍😍

As others said, when they fall asleep on your chest. When you work out how to soothe them and then it works when you try it. (Not every time of course, but when you feel like you're learning more about each other and you are their safe place.)

When they are older and they stretch their little chubby arms up to be lifted up 😍

The way my partners face lights up when he sees them after a long day at work. Or when he talks about them.

Now my youngest is nearly 4 it's wonderful in different ways. I can see her becoming her own person and she still climbs into bed in the morning for a cuddle and often strokes my face 🥰 Also when they are older and tell you they love you. That's a special time. There's so much for you to look forward to! ❤️

GothMummy · 11/10/2019 23:25

I just loved it when mine fell asleep with their heads on my shoulder. When they are all heavy with sleep and you are carrying them up to bed.... I miss those days. I have to say my nearly 14 year old is pretty awesome too though!

Samosaurus · 11/10/2019 23:27

My baby is 2.5 years old and things just get better and better. I loved all the newborn stuff, but now he is talking and exploring the world, it’s amazing to see his personality develop and imagine the world through his eyes. Sorry you are feeling crap right now OP, but it is all totally worth it :)

riotlady · 11/10/2019 23:27

My DD used to briefly wake up from her nap on me, look up at me, smile, and go back to sleep. It was like she was checking I was still there- melted my heart!
