ok
i have 3x motherease one size thingys from waitrose. also 3 of the extra pop on bits (booster?) and some of the wraps.

frankly, they are a bit of a faff, and seem to be soaked through in no time. and the wraps are rubbish (fit feels wrong IYSWIM)

and i have one al in one thingy (including the waterproof outer bit) that i got in sainsbuggers yesterday... to see if any different.

reckon i can get on with the easy peasy all in one numbers... they have a velcro fastening and seem to have a booster bit sewn on? this also appears to be open to allow extra padding? is that right?

can someone tell me the best, most absorbent, easy to use allin one options available? and with booster things for nighttime.

TIA

have to go out now, but will check back later - not ignoring anyone!

ratface, think you may struggle with the absorbency of an all in one if a motherease one size isn't working for you (did you pre wash them a few times before use as this increases their absorbency). I have used magic all all in ones and motherease all in one, neither of which where any good after my DD hit 18 months as they just weren't absorbent enough. How about a pocket nappy, a bit like an all in one but you can add extra boosting to increase the absorbency. As for numbers, I would need about 18 if washing every other day and may be 9 if everyday, many all in ones take a long while to dry. HTH

juuule · 11/08/2007 17:29

Nappies will need washing at least 3 times to reach full absorbency.
Which wraps have you got?
Is all the nappy contained in the wrap?
How old is your baby?

Yup, pockets would be better for absorbancy than an AIO. I find wonderoos the best for adding extra padding - they seem to allow for more filling out than fuzzi bunz. Minki are the best for padding, but they are VERY bulky.

ratface · 11/08/2007 18:41

oh ok.
first off, they havnt been washed enough. they are all (apart fromt he one hes wearing) in the wash now, and ill put through again as soon as they are done. maybe even once more.

i bought them a few weeks ago out of desperation coz his todger was so sore, but only used once as there was just too much going on. the rest of the nappy rash has cleared up, but his willy is still red, dry flakey and clearly itchy and uncomfortable. looks like eczema (sp?) tbh... but just on his willy

anyway, he seems happier in these than the disposables. so im finally gonna take the leap.

SO.

pocket nappies it is then - they are all in one, right? apart fromthe booster bits obv... you dont need wraps?

juule - the wraps i have are the motherease ones, the ones sold in waitrose. they seem too big if anything. not snug at all. maybe im not doing it right?

i improvised this current nappy. is a motherease one with the insert bit, but i used a pair of boots potty training pants as a wrap, and it seems perfect!

hes 18m

wonderoos you say flame? (love the batfink bit) whats your website address again pls? i am tranquilaM... but am on a diff pc to the one with my email on... ta

Are the wraps popper or velcro?
The reason I ask is that you can get a snug fit all over the nappy with the velcro fastening ones. The popper ones are designed to be somewhat looser to encourage air flow through the wrap (hence the name). The popper wrap should still fit snugly around waist and legs, though. If they are too loose around the legs or waist then you may need the smaller size.
Sounds like you've got most of it sorted now anyway.

FlameBatfink · 11/08/2007 19:29

www.bumfluffnappies.com I haven't got the wonderoos listed yet, but I do have a whole load sat here - if you want some look at www.babykind.co.uk for what they are like, then email me bumfluffnappies at gmail dot com and I will get them listed for you

for sore todger!

ratface · 11/08/2007 20:11

ahhhhh juule. that makes sense. yes they are fitted on the legs etc, but loose elsewhere, as you say. would help if they put any info on the box [hmmm]

thanks flame.
yes, i think the wonderoos do look like the thing... would it be possible to get a starter pack of a bunch of different pocket nappies and inserts (the wonderbamboo ones shown on that other site look good... are they?)

ratface, if you want to try different types of nappies, have you thought of buying second-hand ones from somewhere like Used.Nappies. That way you wouldn't need to spend a lot and you could always get your money back on the ones you don't like by selling them again. Once you get a (some ) favourite you could then buy new. Just an idea

bagpuss · 11/08/2007 20:29

Hi, the p'tit dessous bamboo inserts that babykind sell are really good. I use one together with a fuzzi bunz insert inside a large fuzzi and it lasts ages. They are a sort of stretchy t-shirt material and really soft and flexible. The only downside is that they take quite a while to dry. Pocket nappies really are good if you are looking for something simple to put on - I used my motherease nappies for the first time in ages this week and the fit on ds2 really annoyed me compared to my pockets.

FlameBatfink · 11/08/2007 20:45

Sure, send me an email and we can get something put together

nappyzone · 11/08/2007 22:14

hello - bit late i am but am a pocket lover big time so it would be rude not to appear - as flame says wonderoos can be stuffed well and i have used them boosted overnight with success as i have also had overnight success with a fuzzi and a minki which can be stuffed to the hilt! I like flame am a retailerr and can be seen in the classifieds [[http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk?topicid=1930 here] under Nappyzone which takes you to my website. There ar eother sellers onthere too so is good to have a look about but it wounds like flame has pointed you inthe right direction. I like wonderoos i do but now a bumgenius - dont get me started!! love em love eem love em and turning into a regular nightime one for me! Goodluck anyway and happy fluff shopping!

nappyzone · 11/08/2007 22:15

that didnt work... here

nappyzone · 11/08/2007 22:15

how rude - ello curly dint see you there - all this name changing really confuses me!

ratface · 11/08/2007 22:30

ah that is just what i wanted to hear bagpuss, thank you.

ok flame, will email you when im back on the other pc.

juuule - is a good suggestion thanks. i looked at that site tho and found it even more confusing than the mountain of info on new ones... think i'll stick with flame, the wise woman of nappiness (among other things im sure) to steer me through the madness

do you have those petit dessous thingmys flame?

OP posts:
juuule · 11/08/2007 22:33

Okey-doke

ratface · 11/08/2007 23:32

hello nappyzone, nice to 'meet' you...

so, whats so good about the bumgenius then?

OP posts:
curlywurlycremeegg · 12/08/2007 08:01

hi nappyzone, no worries I am still incognito and not advertisiting as I haven't got round to renewing my ad, wish they would just sedn you an invoice and auto renew the old one

nappyzone · 12/08/2007 08:54

Oh well first you must realise im a pocket but - but they bumgenius is my fave - i am finding it really containable, it is my longest lasting pocket nappy and im genreally getting 4 hrs out of it and i have never had a leak in it - ive managed it overnight boosted and there slim fitting especially for a birth to potty nappy that tend to be a bit bulkier but this isnt - its also aplix fasteneing which is something i do like and will certainly be apreciated by the nursery when he starts - im a fan pure and simply - there up there with fuzzis for me.

tranquilamanana · 12/08/2007 09:29

so you find bungenius lasts longer than wonderoos?
is it not down to what you put in em?
and can you put the petit dessous things in either?
is petit desous the most absorbant/least bulky of fillings? (or other bamboo ones?)
am i right that bamboo is the most absorbent material?
what is aplix? is that like velcro?

sorry for x-examination!

tranquilamanana · 12/08/2007 09:53

right.

have mailed you flame

and have just bought 4 of the green bumgenius from you nappyzone

NOW,

disposable liners.

i will be putting them in (degradable) nappy sacks in the bin rather than down the loo as we have septic tank and all new plumbing and we're only just running it in now... and we've found signs already that all may not be as well as one would hope with that (incompetent builder) soooooo... i have a pack of the PHP flushable liners, but they are a bit pants (sic) when it comes to containing the mess.

any recommendations there?

LizaRose · 12/08/2007 09:55

I don't use a liner in my bumgenius, the poo just seems to peel off the suedecloth into the loo.

tranquilamanana · 12/08/2007 10:34

and then you soak it overnight in that stuff and then rinse in the machine? is that the drill?

tranquilamanana · 12/08/2007 10:35

oh -ratface is me, btw (just realised i namechanged and didnt say anything)

nappyzone · 12/08/2007 10:45

yes its down to what you put in them and the wettyness of your baby - maybe mines a light weight i dont know but they certainly last longer than any of my others with just the microfibre that come with them - bamboo is the most absorbant but also the longest to dry, i dont know about the petite dessous inserts as i have not managed to get hold of them yet but am currently in discussions with them as to ordering some in. They are out of stock at babykind too - they have changed apparently from being like stretchy t shirt to more like terry so im a bit debatable about them now. Aplix is velcro yes. 4 grasshopper! - i have just e mailed you
