Baby things you can never have enough of?

A friend asked a couple of weeks ago what we hadn't got yet so offered to buy us a changing mat. Have since bought two so need something else to suggest.

We have lots of vests and bodysuits now, and everything on the NHS 'what you'll need for baby' list.

Are there any items that we just can't have enough of, for around £5 - £10?

Muslins: never have too many

Celebelly · 04/09/2019 13:13

We had a very spitty up baby and used so many muslins. We got through multiple a day for the first three months!

Bibs, wipes, teething medicine, blankets

Again as others have said muslins

AlbusSeverusMalfoy · 04/09/2019 13:18

Nappies, and washing liquid. I know thats not a baby item but oh gosh the washing...

inwood · 04/09/2019 13:19

Muslins.

Baby bath towels, with the cute little hoods!

Danni91 · 04/09/2019 13:23

Baby wipes? Blankets we had 6 and it was still a constant cycle of washing/drying them because of sick
I went through a fair amount of Lanisoh in the first few months which is not that cheap per tube! If your breastfeeding its worth while
Toiletries?
A years supply of jammy Dodgers for the midnight feeds...

Danni91 · 04/09/2019 13:24

Ooh yeah, bath towels! I'll second that suggestion

Di11y · 04/09/2019 13:27

Calpol, nappies, wipes.

SamStephens · 04/09/2019 13:28

Bed/cot sheets - between our two I swear we’ve only got about 4 sets and they’re in constant rotation in the wash if there’s a spew or poo explosion!

Ewanismydreamsheep · 04/09/2019 13:31

Muslins we still use them everyday and my sons 10 months- great for cleaning up sick, protecting clothes, using to wipe baby down after a meal or as a blanket

TheBabyAteMyBrain · 04/09/2019 13:35

Insulated mug.

cruellaisback · 04/09/2019 13:37

Another thought on the “muslin” theme, when our babies got to the dribbly teething stage (not newborn), we didn’t think bibs looked very nice on them all the time so we copied a visitor's baby and used big patterned cotton hankies instead (men’s, the kind you would fold into a bandana), we folded them in half diagonally and tied them in a reef-knot behind the neck. We needed loads and they looked really cool. Red spotty, blue paisley, tartan, the lot.

Dummies. They disappear and never reappear.
Socks. They also disappear.
Baby books or a toy for the pram.

Baby vests for the next size up.

hormonesorDHbeingadick · 04/09/2019 14:14

Napisan if your baby is like mine.

Lauren83 · 04/09/2019 14:19

Sleeveless baby vests in every size

BobTheFishermansWife · 04/09/2019 14:20

Muslims, baby shampoo and non bio washing powder/tabs

DumpTrump · 04/09/2019 14:22

Muslins and bibs.

EAIOU · 04/09/2019 14:24

Wipes and muslin cloths, first aid stuff like calpol and teething/gels etc

One of our best presents was a beautiful first aid box for baby with lots of little essentials that we hadnt considered buying until she needed them. This was on top of a mass of baby toiletries. Really thoughtful and useful!

Mangaroo · 04/09/2019 14:28

Changing mat cover:

Total life saver, we have like half a dozen and could not be without them!

Modestandatinybitsexy · 04/09/2019 14:29

Can never have too many books. Classics like Julia Donaldson, Dr Seuss, Rod Campbell, Beatrix Potter, Shirley Hughes. Or you could go That's not my.. or Ten Little.. books

Dribble bibs. Cheeky chompers are great.

Blankets, I find I need one every place I want to lay the baby down.

A lovely soft jellycat toy

RandomUsernameHere · 04/09/2019 14:46

You could ask for vests or sleep suits for the next size up

Lemonsqueasy · 04/09/2019 18:06

Brilliant, thanks everyone!

@Mangaroo would you mind elaborating? Never heard of these. My mum said she always just put a towel over the mat.. I spose it saves towels?
