Why are you all so picky about nappies.

When my dd was born she had really bad nappy rash for the first two months. I put her in terry nappies. The rash cleared up, so she stayed in Terrys. End of story.
You lot are so up yourselves, wittering on for threads at a time, about no conditioner, shaped nappies, no napisan, how do you think your parents copped with nappies when you were kids do you think they spent whole days worrying themselves into a tizzy over the whys and wherefores of nappies. Get over yourselves.

I wouldn't call it picky, just sharing experience and information. A lot of these threads are started by people who either have encountered a problem or who want to use cloth but don't know where to start so they ask other mums who already have the experience of using nappies to help them out. I really don't see how that can make anyone up themselves.
Yes most people do have a preference of nappies but what is the problem with that? Most people have a preference about everything.
I for one think it is great that i can come on here and say for example that one nappy isn't lasting very long on my dd and get advice from people who have used other nappies on what might be a suitable alternative-if you don't find these threads of use or interest then don't read them. Simple.

if you want fatuous and superficial conversations to take the piss out of, come on over to Style.
No, really, we'd love to have you .

CorrieDale · 06/08/2007 17:51

Especially when you know only two other real nappy users in RL. Neither of whom 'get' the addiction thing (yes, I know - they're the sane ones... )

its great to get advice about real nappies when you know no-one who uses cloth, and everyone at your young mums group looks at you like you're crazy, then sees the great wraps etc and fall in love.....although not enough to move to cloth

i to think it may be you up yourself, all we do is share experiences and info wheres the problem with that?

IntergalacticWalrus · 06/08/2007 18:00

Stacey, the buggy is fab, ta, and DP still thinks it was ionly 40 quid, sucker!!!!

lailasmum · 06/08/2007 18:01

Very few people have a perfect first time experience with cloth nappies, lucky you, you did, If you talk to most older women who had no choice to have their baby in terry squares you will find most of them were far from happy with it. Its the ingenuity of these mums mostly that has led to a great range of current nappies around. Many people face different challenges. The parent of a baby that wees for England or the baby that needs a nappy to last 14 hours overnight wants to check on the viability of a product that suits their needs better. The parent that doesn't like a bulky bum so goes for a pocket nappy and wants advice on which one to spend her hard earned money on is within her rights to ask questions from other parents as anyone would with an expensive product. It is ridiculous to assume one things suits everyone in the same as one clothes brand may not fit one person but suit another. Also people talk about different washing methods because not only do we not all have identical washing machines there are better and worse methods of doing things maybe you just aren't educated about these so don't know why you would need to ask in the first place. Your attitude may be to put up with whatever comes your way but not everyone has that attitude, some of use like to solve problems by asking for the experiences of others, researching a product before we buy it and generally moving things forward.

SleeplessInTheStaceym11House · 06/08/2007 18:09

IW glad you like it!!! at your dh

floopowder · 06/08/2007 18:46

My attitude is certainly not put up with everything that comes my way, I just don't see what there is to talk about when it comes to nappies, how can you have 4151 threads on wee!

FillydoraTonks · 06/08/2007 18:50

utterly pmsl

actually in days of yore people spent days scrubbing nappies clean so as to have a lines of white nappies.

So I think we've moved on a bit

MrsBadger · 06/08/2007 18:54

ah come on, floo
after all, there are 6669 threads about clothes and 5735 about telly...

floopowder · 06/08/2007 18:56

aren't your nappies white?????

OP posts:
floopowder · 06/08/2007 18:58

MRSBADGER, but clothes and Tv are in anyone opinion more interesting tham wee/nappies.

OP posts:
Wallace · 06/08/2007 19:01

LOL

so floopowder, how do you wash your nappies?

MrsBadger · 06/08/2007 19:04

but surely we should all just wear the first thing that falls out the wardrobe, end of story, you lot are so up yourselves wittering on for threads at a time about the cut of trousers, hooded coats, no bootlegs, how do you think people coped with clothes before Boden do you think they spent whole days worrying themselves into a tizzy over the whys and wherefores of clothes?

floopowder · 06/08/2007 19:06

My kids are 12 and 8. I soaked my nappies in napisan, then either boiled them in the washing machine or when there was just one I boiled it in a pan on top of the cooker. arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh floo runs to the hills. PS my nappies were immaculately white.

OP posts:
floopowder · 06/08/2007 19:08

I couldn't give a sh* about clothes or tv either mindyou.

OP posts:
MrsBadger · 06/08/2007 19:08

aha we come upon the salient point:
your kids are 12 and 8
I will bet any money that when your youngest was 6m you were boring the pants off your friends about nappies and You Have Forgotten All ABout It.

FlameBatfink · 06/08/2007 19:10

cloth nappies 12 & 8 years ago, and cloth nappies now are completely different things!!!!

GColdtimer · 06/08/2007 19:10

And, there were fewer different types of nappies then. And there was no MN.

So what does float your boat then floopowder?

FillydoraTonks · 06/08/2007 19:11

god almighty, mine are toilet trained and I couldn't give a crap about nappies either.

would be rather odd if you did really.

NineUnlikelyTales · 06/08/2007 19:13

My parents no doubt had an active and adventurous sex life (it was the 70s), but I can't believe they copped with nappies.

floopowder · 06/08/2007 19:13

No mrsbadger when my youngest was 6 months old I was carrying him and a oxygen cylinder to dozens of appointments a month in between physio and getting down on my knees to thank the NHS that he had lived and was finally out of scbu after being born at 27 weeks prem, being in scbu for 20 weeks and having not held my baby until he was 6 weeks old.

OP posts:
floopowder · 06/08/2007 19:15

But regardless of that I have never talked mor about nappies than I have on this thread.

OP posts:
MrsBadger · 06/08/2007 19:15

[backs off]

FlameBatfink · 06/08/2007 19:18

So because you had it rough, people who are having things slightly easier shouldn't discuss what is forefront of their baby's lives/needs?

People have lost houses with flooding, people are starving, people have husbands dying - yes, I care and they all matter to me, but when I am caught up in my own world of my baby's bum bleeding, my husband irritating me or some other such thing, it is important in my life. Maybe I am just heartless and selfish... I go with "human" though.
