Honestly, any old supermarket potty will do. Buy cheap, buy several.

It's a receptacle for bodily waste, you're really overthinking. Aldi do great ones with characters on.

I have this for days out as can be a potty if rural or a toilet seat if needed

Skip the potty.
Install toilet seats like this, and get a double step.

Zoowolla · 13/08/2019 15:02

Mine never liked a potty - much happier with a kiddie toilet seat. You are over thinking this - just get a cheap one.

mogtheexcellent · 13/08/2019 15:05

My advice is to expect the unexpected. I bought one with a moulded insert to lift and pour away waste. Dd refused to use it with the insert in and it was a bugger to empty. She preferred to use one that was higher that we got off freecycle. This also had an insert but there was a hole underneath. She was happy with that one. Confused

My best buy was a potette with the disposable bags. So convenient when travelling.

mindutopia · 13/08/2019 15:06

It really doesn't matter. I think we have an Ikea one - just happened to be at Ikea. It's very handy for travel (put in the car for side of the road emergencies), but a child toilet seat is much more useful. We always used that at home and the potty only when out, if no other options.

PlugUgly1980 · 13/08/2019 15:06

Don't bother. Waste of money...straight to toilet!

SummerHouse · 13/08/2019 15:07

But.... It's just a plastic pot...

Rubicon80 · 13/08/2019 15:07

Go to shops. Look for potties. Buy a potty. Bring it home.

It's not a consumer choice requiring comparison tables, Which? Best Buy data, customer reviews, and expensive brand names.

It is a plastic bucket for poo and wee to go in.

RomaineCalm · 13/08/2019 15:08

My advice would be to skip the potty and buy some of the small padded toilet seats that fit onto the normal seat and some steps. We never used a potty at all.

socksforfox · 13/08/2019 15:17

Thank you for all the good advice. It's worked out well overthinking it, because I'm now thinking about getting just a childseat for the main toilet.

@Rubicon80 Why are you so aggressive?

I have the baby bjorn which I like. I also have one of these which I really recommend. My son much prefers sitting on the big toilet like his parents:

The removable child seats for toilets are really not good. They are not secure and move around a lot when then kid is climbing up onto them. I used one for a while but they are not safe unless supervised.

windmill121 · 13/08/2019 15:25

Agree with the other posters - any cheap one will do, but buy a child toilet seat, it's much better to encourage them to sit on that. We had two one for taking out and one in the house downstairs

timeforawine · 13/08/2019 15:30

Have this at home, works great, perfect size www.dunelm.com/category/home-and-furniture/bathroom/toilet-seats?sku_id=30213445&cm_mmc=pla_google--Bathroom_Toilet%20Seats[GOO-PLA%20PSB-BATHROOM-SEATS]--Toilet%20Seats%20-%20Bestsellers--keyword&gclid=Cj0KCQjwv8nqBRDGARIsAHfR9wC2i0qF21xYniv29zXMLZDMAiS4EeC1zXHBSI8-cPPCFbmt5r8e_AEaAp6GEALw_wcB

socksforfox · 13/08/2019 16:02

The family seat looks fab. I assume that's secure as it's one unit?

OP posts:
RainOrSun · 13/08/2019 16:20

Yes, it's as secure as a normal toilet seat, just has the option for smaller bottoms not to need to balance on the edge! With the added bonus of no potty to clean!

socksforfox · 13/08/2019 16:51

The idea of cleaning a potty isn't appealing.. very keen on the family seat instead

I took my DC to mothercare and sled them to choose the potty. Part of the potty training process. I bought 2 the same, and had one upstairs loo and one in the downstairs loo, that way they thought the potty was the same, so no faff about wanting the pink potty or the elephant one etc.

My ds didn't want to use the family loo seat the first couple of months scared of it and still prefers to use the potty as he can do that independently as he still can't get on the toilet himself. Potty also useful for those first few days of potty training that you don't have much time get to loo. Started with a basic character potty but ds prefers the summer infant potty which looks like a mini toilet complete with flush noise effects.
