My dd has her mmr vaccination tomorrow, is it any different to the others?

Is it the 1st or 2nd dose?

lljkk · 18/07/2019 07:27

They're bigger so they cry louder about it. They're also more distractable (lolly, book, toy, phone).

SmartPlay · 18/07/2019 10:20

MMR is a live vaccine, which makes some children react stronger to it than to other vaccines. So don't be surprised about fever afterwards.

Her first dose :/ I've heard bad things about it but it has to be done. Are all the other vaccines not live then!?

dementedpixie · 18/07/2019 12:53

Some are, some arent

flower8169 · 18/07/2019 12:54

So if she going to feel very unwell after this?

OP posts:
itscallednickingbentcoppers · 18/07/2019 12:59

I didn't notice a difference.

dementedpixie · 18/07/2019 13:01

They may get reactions at different times after MMR as each component starts to work. Or they mau not have any reaction

BlingLoving · 18/07/2019 13:03

Totally depends on the child. DD had no reactions to any vaccinations ever. DS was fine for all except the MMR at age 1 where he did get a cold and snuffly and as a result landed up with an infection. It's entirely random. But it is something that needs to be done.

flower8169 · 18/07/2019 13:07

Thanks for the link :). My dd has always cried and been grumpy for hours on end after each time she's been, this time 6 months ago she didn't sleep until 9 am the next day ☹️

DD had a temp for a day after her MMR but was fine after that. No worse than when she's had an illness. I took chocolate buttons to distract her and she was fine.

NewSchoolNewName · 18/07/2019 13:11

I didn’t notice any negative difference in how my DC reacted to the MMR vaccine compared to other vaccines.
It was better than some of the other ones in terms of reactions !

flower8169 · 18/07/2019 13:12

She had a lot for breakfast and a bottle now having her lunch and will have another bottle , feeding her up as she doesn't even want milk after them

OP posts:
flower8169 · 18/07/2019 13:13

@NewSchoolNewName I hope my dd is like that too! If not oh well!

OP posts:
MustardScreams · 18/07/2019 13:20

The MMR was fine dd. Bit cranky and a slight temp, but nothing chocolate buttons couldn’t solve!

flower8169 · 18/07/2019 13:27

I have no chocolate buttons! I have galaxy 😂

OP posts:
flower8169 · 18/07/2019 13:27

Is says they're are 4 separate injections ffs 😣😣

OP posts:
BlingLoving · 18/07/2019 13:33

I think it's two for MMR at a time. The other two are probably something else they're doing at the same time. I seem to recall DD getting at least 3 on one occasion.

flower8169 · 18/07/2019 13:38

Only issue is she still has bruising a month after. Not sure if that's normal? I can't find on nhs where it says to take a one year old hospital if they're temperature gets To high it only mentiones 3-6 months ?

OP posts:
Wenttoseainasieve · 18/07/2019 13:46

Yes the one year vaccines are 4 separate injections. Fever is likely that day/next day, especially as the MenB booster is included.

One week post MMR some children can get a mild, measles like illness which is not dangerous and not infectious. Most don't get this, none of mine ever did.

flower8169 · 18/07/2019 14:02

What temperature is said to take them to hospital?

OP posts:
MustardScreams · 18/07/2019 14:05

You won’t need to take her to hospital for a fever. All they will do is give her paracetamol or ibuprofen to bring her temp down.

Honestly she will be absolutely fine! If you go in stressed and anxious she’ll pick that up from you and it will be worse for her. Calming thoughts. If you’re worried call 111.

Bobbiepin · 18/07/2019 14:06

Dd was fine after, lots of cuddles and some chocolate definitely helped. I think we gave calpol because she'd end up with a sore leg. She had a slight fever the week after but was fine. I would call 111 for a temp over 39 if you feel you need advice. Anything over 40 (so unlikely) I would take in.

BillywigSting · 18/07/2019 14:08

No difference for my ds but he was very grumpy and clingy and had a temp for all of his vaccines
