Beat natural baby wash for cradle cap

My baby has a bit of cradle cap and I've been advised by my GP to only use natural/organic products rather than the Johnston's baby wash I had been using. Can anyone recommend one that has worked for them? Thank you x

We used the Weleda Calendula baby oil which worked well. Although TBH I think it was the Pourty cradle cap brush that really sorted it out for my DS

Hope I don’t come across rude- but please don’t use johnsons stuff, they are so bad and harsh on babies skins

I use childs farm products and it has been great for my DD, we used to use dove stuff but her cradle cap only really went away when we switched over to this.

SnowdropFox · 11/07/2019 19:31

Johnston's definitely made it worse for my lo. Ended up with bath stuff (dermol 300) for her dry skin and that helped clear it up I think!

Coconut oil is the only thing that has ever worked on cradle cap IME.

SilveryMountainStream · 11/07/2019 20:23

We've just had a lot of success with Child's Farm Salicylic Acid shampoo (from Boots online). DD (4) has had it since birth and never been able to shift it, now pretty much all gone. And DS (20mo) had awful thick plaques of it all over his scalp and finally lifting and going. Probably been using it about a month I reckon.

mindutopia · 11/07/2019 20:59

Coconut oil and just use your nails to gently rub it in and give it a good scratch. Then wash with whatever gentle soap you use. It's the only thing that really works.

CharminglyGawky · 11/07/2019 21:08

I used burts bees stuff and got a pourty cradle cap brush. DS never really had bad cradle cap though, and it went really quickly after I started using the cradle cap brush in the bath.

GemmeFatale · 11/07/2019 21:38

I used nipple cream (as advised by my midwife). Worked a treat

alislim · 11/07/2019 21:43

Child's farm cleared it right up 😀

IWouldLikeToKnow · 11/07/2019 21:59

My son had cradle cap for over a year. We tried the "miracle " coconut oil - did nothing. Tried a number of specialty cradle cap treatment/shampoos. Then, by chance, we bought burts bees baby shampoo and it started clearing within a couple of washes. Still use it now at almost 5!

Whyisitsodifficult · 11/07/2019 22:01

Vaseline! Smother it on, then leave over night then enjoy picking off the softened scabs! It’s amazing.

Teachermaths · 11/07/2019 22:02

I smothered on olive oil for a night and combed it all off in the morning. Satisfyingly gross!

blueskiesbrighteyes · 12/07/2019 02:36

Thanks all, this is really helpful x

I'm sorry OP but your GP is talking out of her arse. Cradle cap is a fungal infection and you're not going to shift it with organic woo. You need a medicated shampoo preferably with coal tar - Capasal is good, but others are available. You can get them over the counter and they're perfectly safe to use on babies.

There's a lot of crap talked about cradle cap which can lead to the ineffective "treatments" allowing proper infection to set in. Don't be that parent endlessly and fruitlessly combing olive oil through your baby's scalp, just as you wouldn't be that parent treating a throat infection with sugar pills. A couple of goes with a medicated shampoo will shift it and no harm whatsoever will come to your baby.

BarberBabyBubbles · 12/07/2019 05:34

I used coconut oil - rubbed a bit on then left for a bit and then combed off using a tangle tweeze (I think) brush (but basically a soft plastic brush). Came straight off!

Rtmhwales · 12/07/2019 05:59

I used olive oil. Took two baths and it came right off. Just put it on his head about half an hour before bath then shampooed it out with a gentle baby shampoo and used his soft brush. Couldn't believe how easily it came off.

Qwertyguerty · 12/07/2019 06:47

Organic jojoba oil. It's organically the most compatible oil with human skin. Worked real well for DD

OrangeJustice · 12/07/2019 06:59

We tried everything with dd but the thing that finally shifted it was a hot sweaty summer. All the huge flakes just lifted out one evening. The single most satisfying experience of my life Grin

tuesdayschild1 · 12/07/2019 07:04

Coconut oil, left on for a few mins, then gently brushed off with a soft baby brush. Worked brilliantly for us

queenrollo · 12/07/2019 07:08

@Kallyderon
I can find no source that confirms cradle cap as fungal infection.
If you can, then I would love to see it.

Because as it stands your post is innacurate and unhelpful.

NabooThatsWho · 12/07/2019 07:11

Coconut oil worked brilliantly with DD2. I smothered in on and massaged it in while she was having a nap, then after a few hours it came off easily.

ListenLinda · 12/07/2019 07:14

Baby oil soaked in, a soft bristled brush rubbed on her head in circular motions, then washed with a mild shampoo. Think it probably was Johnsons? But anyway, did this a couple of times when it got bad and then all of a sudden it just never came back.
She now has the most beautiful curly hair that is hard to tame in other ways now!

BagelDog · 12/07/2019 07:17

The Mustela foam works really well. Can get off Amazon. Had tried olive oil etc and it helped a bit but not much while this cleared it up. Really mild. The same bottle has lasted ages as didn’t need much.

NotAnotherJaffaCake · 12/07/2019 07:21

Olive oil and a comb here.

stucknoue · 12/07/2019 07:25

Olive oil and fingers removed the huge plaques but dd has issues with her scalp to this day (she's adult) medicated shampoo doesn't work and it's stress related
