Really bad nappy rash - help!

NathansMummy0203 · 30/06/2019 18:24

Does anyone have any tips for really bad nappy rash please? DS2 is getting a lot of teeth in just now and it seems to be appearing his poo. It's really watery and often so his wee bum is really sore. I feel so bad every time I need to change him as he screams in pain. I've tried everything I can think of and I think I'm going to take him to the doctors tomorrow but does anyone have any suggestions in the mean time? I am at a loss and feel so useless as I can't make it better for him. He's 1 year old.

Sudacrem

Lots of nappy off time preferable in the garden

FiresideTreats · 30/06/2019 18:30

Have you tried the yellow metanium cream?

As much nappy free time as possible is the best cure, let the air to it.

Poppins2016 · 30/06/2019 18:32

Another vote for metanium, it's great stuff!

Vaseline mixed with sudocreme is a lifesaver, just slather loads on, lots!

Or yellow metanium x

A oat bath will help sooth it as well (porridge oats in tights then run bath as normal). Followed by a good airing then yellow metanium, as suggested above.

EggysMom · 30/06/2019 18:33

OP, when you say you've tried everything you can think of, can you please tell us what you have tried? Then we can make other suggestions.

DeadDoorpost · 30/06/2019 18:33

I use Savlon. Worked a treat for DS sore bum when his molars came through.

Also agree with nappy free time

lollipopguild · 30/06/2019 18:35

Metanium is amazing

SweepTheHalls · 30/06/2019 18:36

Also as much nappy off time as you can manage. And yellow metonium.

TheBabyAteMyBrain · 30/06/2019 18:37

Nappy free time as much as possible.

Make sure his nappy area is completely dry before putting a nappy on.

Wash with cooled boiled water and cotten wool, pat don't wipe.

When completely dry a good barrier cream thinly applied so it doesn't clump.

Dr's should be able to give you a good cream, ds had similar and needed a prescribed cream before it would clear. Took about 5 days to be completely clear.

SummerHouse · 30/06/2019 18:39

Let him be nappy free if you can bare it. Grin

gamerchick · 30/06/2019 18:40

Acid poos, due to all the extra dribble they swallow.

A good barrier like vasiline when nappy is on. Change immediately and lots of nappy off time.

A small amount of suducrem maybe but as it has to be rubbed in and not slathered on, he might not thank you for it.

Mumof1andacat · 30/06/2019 18:43

Drapolene. Available from most independent pharmacies. I swore by it.

SisterA · 30/06/2019 18:44

When we were going through the constant stream of poop newborn days my baby got terrible nappy rash and I felt so bad as he was so little! Doctor said water would dry him out so when changing nappies we used cotton wool (not balls - like a big roll and pulled fluffy chunks off) and something like E45 cream instead of wet wipes or water. It de a huge difference. Also lots of nappy off time but for when we had to clean definitely using something to help put moisture back into the area helped immensely.

Hope it clears up soon! It's so sad when they've got such sore bottoms!

SisterA · 30/06/2019 18:45

Ps. Wasn't as messy/fluffy as it sounds once you have a good dollop of cream on there. Baby soft skin went up to a whole new gloriously soft level

meepmoop · 30/06/2019 18:47

I use calendula cream on DS and it works really well. It's easy to put on and smells of camomile.

Sometimes I'll put metatanium on with sudacrem on top.

Withington · 30/06/2019 18:57

Mix metanium and anti fungal (eg athlete's foot creme). We use reusable wipes (cheeky wipes) with tea tree oil in water, which seem to be better as you can wring out so not as wet and need fewer.

moreismore · 30/06/2019 19:03

Clean with plain water not wipes.
Thin layer of metanium then a generous layer of Sudocrem.

Also google Images of thrush in nappy rash-it happens when skin already sore and then yeast bacteria from the gut get into nappy area due to diarrhoea. It will be red around anus and often a spotty rash, in skin creases not just areas nappy touches. If so you can see GP or try canestan 1% cream morning and evening. Need to continue for a week after it’s cleared up.
Been through this recently!

unicornsunshine · 30/06/2019 19:03

Coconut oil has always worked for my 3. Put some in the bath (be careful as bath gets slippery) and lots on baby.

Rarfy · 30/06/2019 19:10

Yellow metanium was the only thing that touched dd.

firstimemamma · 30/06/2019 19:10

Another vote for no nappy time!

CupoTeap · 30/06/2019 19:12

Sit in a small bath with Dettol in - takes the sting right out and always worked for my dc. They came out and it looked better straight away.

iemma321q · 30/06/2019 19:13

Both of mine have suffered terribly with nappy rash with teething and the yellow tube of metanium has worked wonders.

BadBehaviour · 01/07/2019 01:22

Yellow metanium works great! £3 a tube use it every time& at night time put talc over it to set it. My friends LG had it really bad. Open wound. It healed it in 3-4 days x

NathansMummy0203 · 01/07/2019 13:10

Thanks everyone, sorry for the delay in getting back to the thread. I also swear by the yellow metanium, it's what we use normally but even that's not shifting it this time. We've tried sudocrem, talc to dry it out, metanium then talc on top, talc then metanium on top, dakort cream from docs that was prescribed for another skin thing (every time I've been to docs this is the cream I've been given for skin related things. Thought I'd give it a try as had tried everything else) also tried this along with the talc, been showering his bum when pooed so as not to use wipes and also trying to leave nappy off as much as possible.

I've not tried bepanthen or putting the sudocreme on top of the metanium so I will try that tonight and I have an app for the docs tomorrow at 9:10 so hopefully they will be able to advise further.

Thanks so much for all your replies. Nice to know it's happened to others aswell and it's not something I'm doing wrong or not doing that I should. Was starting to feel really bad about it like it was my fault :-(
