As per the title. We already have (and love) books such as Peepo and We’re going on a Bear Hunt, and “Dear Zoo” and various Julia Donaldson ones. Please share with me your favourite books to read with a 1 year old.

Thanks

Anything from the 10 little dinosaurs/pirates/princesses range. My DC love them.

Megasaur5keeper · 27/06/2019 13:11

Mine likes - Never shake a rattlesnake; unpoppable (tim hopgood); Fearne Cotton's yoga babies and hungry babies (I have a "story book subscription" and get some random books every month. I wouldn't necessarily have picked them and they are really not too bad!).
She loves "the paper dolls"which is a problem for me as it makes me cry so I miss the bad bit out...
Meg and Mog series too.

littlecabbage · 27/06/2019 13:29

Ah yes, we have 10 little dinosaurs and 10 little pirates!

What happens in The Paper Dolls that is bad?

Each Peach Pear Plum

Anything you can read over and over again without going insane...

blackcat86 · 27/06/2019 13:33

Mine loves the very hungry Caterpillar and the gruffalo. She seems to like the rhythm of them.

DelurkingAJ · 27/06/2019 19:26

That’s not my... were popular at that age.

jackparlabane · 27/06/2019 19:44

Agree anything you can bear!
Hippos go berserk! is a great counting one.
Ones with bits to touch - Ladybird board book fairy tales have furry, rough, corrugated etc things on each page.

bourbonbiccy · 27/06/2019 20:36

Our son loves "where's" books so where's mr lion and where's mr owl, they are open cloth flaps in the books with animals hiding behind the flaps.

I also have a little collection of brown Watson books Tom the tractor and Freddie the fire engine.

His favourite at the moment is Emily out if Thomas the tank but it's too long a read for him yet so I just take bits out to read.

littlecabbage · 27/06/2019 20:36

Thanks, will start googling these.

I loved reading the Mog books, which was fortunate as i had to read them approx 4000000000 times.
Also The Tiger Who Came to Tea and The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

carmenbea · 27/06/2019 20:46

That's not my..... collection. My niece is obsessed with them. She likes that's not my mermaid best 🤣

HappyDinosaur · 27/06/2019 20:47

We like the Alfie and Annie Rose books, they are lovely.

Fruittreeorchard · 27/06/2019 20:50

For daytime reading - they would listen to any story. I read all of the fairy stories, nursery rhymes and poems to them.

Bed time:
They loved
ten little fingers...ten little toes. mem fox
I see the moon - can't remember the author - but it had push up/pull down flaps and all of my DC and foster DC adored it.

Any of the "That's not my .. " ( e.g. tractor/pony etc) series were very popular

Frustratedmummy79 · 27/06/2019 20:57

Another vote for ten little fingers and ten little toes - I never get tired of reading it!

BusMum79 · 27/06/2019 21:02

Peace At Last by Jill Murphy. Have had to read it thousands of times and still love it

kiwielite · 27/06/2019 21:04

Mummoomoocow · 27/06/2019 21:48

My 17 month old only likes those picture books with single words, should I be pushing for more wordy books? I worry he might be delayed honestly

BeeyatchPlease · 27/06/2019 21:57

My 17 month DS loves Giraffes Can't Dance. It's great for bedtime and he loves to shout out all the animals he recognises.

thisusernameun · 27/06/2019 22:18

My son loves hairy maclairy

littlecabbage · 27/06/2019 22:39
