Is Fart a rude word...

...For a 2 year old?

We just say Fart in our house, no trumps, bottom burps, parps...My toddler has started loudly declaring her farts and finds this hilarious. Is this acceptable parenting or should I be saying something else?!

I don’t like hearing young children say it, I’m not really sure why though. I think it was frowned upon when I went to primary school. We just use the words trumps/trumpet bottom...

cuppycups · 16/05/2019 11:15

We call them bum bubbles. Grin

Teddybear45 · 16/05/2019 11:18

No it’s not rude. I actually think it’s weirder when parents force their kids not to refer to normal bodily functions or make them refer to them in stupid ways.

Its a perfectly good word. I can’t stand twee euphemisms.

HJWT · 16/05/2019 11:18

We say trump 😂

Looneytune253 · 16/05/2019 11:19

I don't like it from the children

ReganSomerset · 16/05/2019 11:21

I find it a bit vulgar and was raised to think of it as a swear but in society in general it's considered fine.

Stylemebabyonemoretime · 16/05/2019 11:26

Yes, it won’t be acceptable at school

JenMumma · 16/05/2019 11:32

Bottom burps 😳

WhoKnewBeefStew · 16/05/2019 11:34

It is in our house. Trump or fluff is the word Grin

Sonny23 · 16/05/2019 11:37

My ds has been proudly announcing his farts since 2 Grin he's now 4 and still finds it hilarious. I don't think it's a rude word at all Hmm

wineymummy · 16/05/2019 11:40

OK glad I'm not the only one! But if it is definitely not allowed at school we'd better curtail it...

To lots of people, including me, it's no problem - Although my mother wouldn't agree.
However, if they use it at school others will pick it up; some mothers will be upset and could shun your child.

Best give them an alternative.

Mysterian · 16/05/2019 12:24

The correct medical term is "love puff".

Barbarafromblackpool · 16/05/2019 12:24

My 4 and 5 year old say it. Happy for them to be shunned by twee pearl clutchers.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 16/05/2019 12:29

It was ok for Phil on LLL last night 😊

fedup21 · 16/05/2019 12:32

My mum hates the word fart! We tend to say trump!

happymummy12345 · 16/05/2019 12:34

I don't like the word full stop

wineymummy · 16/05/2019 12:35

The correct medical term is "love puff". Grin

I don't see anything wrong with it as a word, but I know some schools think otherwise.

Just had a flashback from assembly where someone let off such a noxious fart that the girl next to me started crying. Teacher asked her what was wrong and she loudly declared "Bobby FARTED" to which the teacher curtly replied "You mean 'passed gas'" (in a very posh accent) Grin.

I say let farts be farts!

NameChangeMcgee · 16/05/2019 12:37

I love these threads and all the pearl clutching about the word fart! Honestly, the other words people use instead are far more cringe worthy (and hilarious!) 💨🤭

bookmum08 · 16/05/2019 12:40

I have no issue with the word fart but I do get fed up with being told several times a day "I've farted". I don't want to know thank you very much. (My girl is 11 now - you think she wouldn't announce it to the world anymore. But no. I still have to be told. Apparently).

Summerorjustmaybe · 16/05/2019 12:40

Fart is fine. Ds 4 calls snots 'buggars', no idea why.

hazeyjane · 16/05/2019 12:41

Fart is so much better than all the trumps/bottom burps (shudder)/parps....etc.
Child "I farted"
Me "yes I know I heard it...no need to go on about"
End of conversation.

MenuPlant · 16/05/2019 12:43

Fart is a great word.

Not sure why it's frowned upon by so many people but aware it is.

DH was raised not to say anything rude. It's quite funny. I tried to get him to say fuck the other day and he just blanched and couldn't 😁

I come from a sweary and often farty family.

Don't know what the kids say at school, I'll ask them later.
