Which baby wipes work best on a newborn? Are any of these a hype/ waste? Any personal experiences? Thinking of buying a couple/ few brands to try them out, but want to buy in bulk so asking so don’t waste too much money! Don’t really want all them added ingredients to make his skin sore. Am due in under 11 weeks and want to stock up so I’m all ready 😬

Aveeno
Water wipes
Pampers pure

Water wipes for the first six months and then pampers. Coconut oil as a cream. Never had a happy rash or hint of redness. We also dry the bottom after wiping to prevent any moisture staying around.

Rosebud1302 · 15/05/2019 22:16

Sorry to jump in here but is there a reason a lot of people seem to stop using Water Wipes after a few months? My boy is 9 months and I still use them Confused

MustardScreams · 15/05/2019 22:37

I only stopped because they’re bloody expensive! And once their skin is a bit hardier you can use pretty much any wipe without issues.

We used water wipes initially but DS got a bit of nappy rash so we switched to cotton pads and water, after a few weeks went on to water wipes but they're expensive, we have used the dove newborn ones when they were on offer and pampers and Huggies pure. We now use aldi mamia in the blue pack, I think they're like pampers pure etc 99% water no fragrance. They're cheap and brilliant and have the clicky top

ZippyBungleandGeorge · 15/05/2019 22:44

We use the child's farm nappy cream (I'm a big fan of all their products, moisturiser, coconut oil, hair and body wash, bubble bath, DSs skin is lovely and I think some of that is down to CF) and metanium if needed, DS hasn't had nappy rash since using water wipes when he was very very tiny, but I use the metanium if I think he might. So recently he's had an upset tummy for example.

happyhillock · 15/05/2019 22:48

My DIL. uses Johnston's sensitive

emwithme · 15/05/2019 22:53

Water wipes for the first couple of weeks then onto Aldi sensitive.

Why switch? Water wipes are £2 a pack and Aldi are about £7 for 12 packs during the baby event.

yermawyabas · 15/05/2019 22:53

Aldi's water wipes

RedWineAllMine · 15/05/2019 22:56

B&M sell water wipes for £1 a pack, don't be caught out in buying the mega expensive ones form main supermarkets.

GlamGiraffe · 15/05/2019 23:00

Cotton wool pads damped with water. Much more gentle. Not damaging to the environment as not artificial. Does a much better job of cleaning. When youre out carry a flask with water for emergencies or ask in a cafe for a dash or warm water in a cup. They all happily give it to you for nappy change.

I personally think the environmental impact of wipes is horrendous. I was told repeatedly by hospital to use nothing but cotton wool and water on baby as skin was so delicate( she was in SCUBU) for a while and I carried on from there.

pigletpie2177 · 15/05/2019 23:04

Another vote for cheeky wipes - disposables will be banned soon enough so you may as well get as much use as possible out of your reusable ones and start early!

Chippychipsforme · 15/05/2019 23:08

Aldi sensitive. Work well and much cheaper than the likes of water wipes.

We do use flannels/reusable wipes for mealtime clean up and giving him a wash.

LauraPalmersBodybag · 15/05/2019 23:16

Cotton wool and water for the first few weeks. I did then switch to unscented supermarket wipes, but eventually replaced them with cheeky wipes - I couldn’t stand the amount of plastic I was putting into the bin every few hours.

They were great, little adjustment but no big thing. Will be using them for the next one from the start.

Rumi2019 · 16/05/2019 00:39

Definitely Large cotton swabs and water for first week & Waterwipes only

Then after the first month I would say transition to Aldi extra sensitive or Johnson's extra sensitive

The only wipes that caused allergies for me was on day 3 of newborn from Huggies pure (they were very hard!)

My baby is now 9 months and hasn't had nappy rash once since! However it's just not about wipes. When at home try to wash bum after poos especially & frequent nappy changes in early days.

Good luck!

Butterchunks · 16/05/2019 01:26

Asda sensitive wipes. You can get boxes of 12 for around £7. We tried cheeky wipes but found the clean box of wipes went mouldy quite quickly so abandoned them. Aldi wipes and Sainsburys have also been used but I like buying in bulk, and the Sainsburys ones all came out of the packet at the same time which is a bit useless when doing things one handed whilst holding a wiggly, poopy baby still with the other hand.

Stylemebabyonemoretime · 16/05/2019 07:50

Rosebud1302 other wipes are much cheaper than water wipes and older babies have more robust skin that new born so people often change wipes to save money.

WhenZogateSuperworm · 16/05/2019 07:55

Waterwipes for first 2 weeks and then ALDI sensitive as they are so much cheaper and I find them really good.

Boots are terrible, far too dry. The yellow Johnson’s are ok if I can’t get to ALDI and have ran out.

Nuttyaboutnutella · 16/05/2019 08:03

Water wipes and cloth wipes all the way here. Still use them on DS who is 2 and will for dc2, due next week!

Rosebud1302 · 16/05/2019 08:16

Ohhhh I see yes I'm all for that!!! I was bulk bought boxes of water wipes when he was born and still got some left but will definitely be switching to cheaper when they are finished. I was just making sure it was ok to use them although I don't know why it wouldn't be haha

polkadotpixie · 16/05/2019 09:01

I've used all sorts....Aldi/Superdrug/Pampers/Sainsbury's/Huggies etc right from birth

I never bothered with water wipes because DH & I both have tough skin, nothing affects us so I assumed DS would be the same

We've had no issues. He's had a bit of nappy rash now he's teething but nothing bad and it's cleared up with coconut oil

Chrle98 · 16/05/2019 09:49

Thank you everyone :)

Washable wipes with plain water

Rarfy · 16/05/2019 09:53

I was all oh I'm going to use water wipes not faff with cotton wool and water then dd came along and she was so precious I did cotton wool and water for 4 or 6 weeks then water wipes for another few weeks then onto any old wipe after that.

WeepingWillowWeepingWino · 16/05/2019 09:55

for a newborn water and cotton wool.

Otherwise I just used own brand ones and I think we liked Boots and Sainsbo's.

You need some kind of wipe if you;re planning to ever leave the house!

EyeDrops · 16/05/2019 11:39

Water wipes for the first few weeks, but only out and about - cheeky wipes at home, they're flipping fantastic. Wish I'd had them for DD1.

We moved from water wipes to Aldi extra sensitive, they're great.
