Mil gives her baby's quavers or wotsits. She suggests my dd can have them and she is 10 months old, haven't really known baby's to have them? But I am still learning so would it be ok?

The odd crisp does no harm imo
It's all about balance

winexisgood · 02/05/2019 15:40

Okay so maybe every now and then? Not on a regular? Thank you for the reply

Within reason if there's no allergies but I would stick to baby "crisps" at first

One of two crisps a couple of times a week won’t harm her.

Mssngvwls · 02/05/2019 15:43

My DD (12m) loves crisps and has since she was little, but it isn't wotsits, it is the specific baby ones made by organix etc. She just loves the texture. I'm not going to get my knickers in a twist about her eating a few crisps as part of a balanced diet.

You'll get plenty of folk on here saying they are empty calories, don't have any nutritional value, they only feed their baby foraged organic kale and spinach etc etc.

I wouldn't be happy about massive amounts of very salty crisps for a young child but in moderation I think it's fine. Food is to be enjoyed as well as just fuel/nutrition.

irecitethegruffaloinmydreams · 02/05/2019 15:44

They are very salty and have no nutritional value, so really not recommended.

Baby crisps have hardly any salt, but not much else to be said for them. Can't your MIL just give her a bit of toast or banana?

NewMum19344567 · 02/05/2019 15:44

I buy the puffcorn which is popcorn made of banana or carrot puffs which are wotists but carrots... This being said if baby ever sees me eating my adult crisps he will scoff them all down! I try not to eat them near him now as I think they are too salty really

winexisgood · 02/05/2019 15:46

@Mssngvwls are they rice cake type of things at all?

InsertFunnyUsername · 02/05/2019 15:46

Fine in moderation.

Peachesandcream14 · 02/05/2019 15:47

I wouldn't give a baby that age crisps, there are plenty of baby friendly puff things without all the salt and artificial flavours/colours, easily and cheaply available. But an occasional crisp won't do any harm. I do inwardly judge when I see little ones in their buggys muching down a bag of wotsits or whatever though, they certainly don't need a whole bag!

winexisgood · 02/05/2019 15:48

Thanks for reply's! I was a bit off on the thought of it but I know she would probably give it to her when I'm not there! I think I'm going to tell her to just stick to her original snacks

BertieBotts · 02/05/2019 15:48

At 10 months she should have no more than 1 gram of salt over the whole day, so definitely limit it to a few crisps rather than a whole packet but I wouldn't get het up about it otherwise.

Pom bears are pretty low in salt if you are concerned about it.

melissasummerfield · 02/05/2019 15:48

You and your MiL both have babies Hmm

winexisgood · 02/05/2019 15:49

Oh yes I definitely wouldn't give her more than 1! I think I won't give her any anyway and will tell my mil she can do what she wants with her baby's but not mine ! Hmm

Not rice cakes (DD not a fan) but Organix Goodies. You also get Ella's Kitchen versions (and own brand Asda etc). You'll find a massive selection in a supermarket.

They are also good practice for babies learning to eat individual items indepedantly.

dementedpixie · 02/05/2019 15:50

www.organix.com/our-foods/carrot-sticks these are like wotsits but don't contain salt

winexisgood · 02/05/2019 15:50

Well my mil baby is 1and a half so not really a baby but it's easier to say lol. Why is that a shock to you?🥴

OP posts:
winexisgood · 02/05/2019 15:51

@dementedpixie thank you!

winexisgood · 02/05/2019 15:52

@Mssngvwls yes I've seen them around she likes rice cakes but I haven't tried the other things. Off shopping tonight so I'll definitely get a variety of things

Mrsjayy · 02/05/2019 15:54

We get the baby organix for snacks where i work just like wotsits but lower salt and a bit healthier for a baby but a couple of quavers are not going to harm her.

winexisgood · 02/05/2019 15:55

@Mrsjayy cheers!

00100001 · 02/05/2019 15:56

melissa why wouldn't the MIL have a baby?
you have no idea how old OP is, or when the MIL had OPs DH...

if she'd had DH at 18, and DH is now 22, MIL would only be 40 or so, so not beyond the realms!

winexisgood · 02/05/2019 15:57

@00100001 I know 😂 don't know why that's such a shock for her to hear someone's mother in law has a baby 🥴🥴

OP posts:
Raggerty54 · 02/05/2019 16:00

I wouldn’t give her anything other than baby crisps because too much salt can damage a baby’s kidneys- also not worth giving baby a taste for salty things!

winexisgood · 02/05/2019 16:01

@Raggerty54 thanks for the reply too, yes i guess it's the same with sugar too! Don't want them to start wanting things salty and sugary!
