Can you tell me what activities your kids do and their ages

Hello,

I'd appreciate an idea of what activities your children do and their ages.

My 3 year old regularly rides her pony and I've enrolled her into ballet. She also goes to nursery 3 full days.

Just wondering what/how much others do as I'd like to try and show her as much as possible to see what sticks/interests her but I don't want to push her too much.

She's my first and only so I have nothing to compare it to..

TIA Grin

Thank you @chatnicknameyousuggested

Now can please discuss what a bizarre place MM is?

neversleepagain · 27/04/2019 09:43

My dc are in year 1. They do the same activities by choice.

Swimming lessons
Music lessons (violin)
Football training on Fridays and matches on Saturdays.

@quickquestion it's not bizarre at all for my 3Yrs old to have a pony, stop baiting.

We live on an equestrian property in Shropshire in the countryside and nearly all equestrians kids are familiar with riding at this age - or on board as soon as they can sit up.

I think it's brilliant and so does my DD. It's a good job she's open to it as she's on the yard a lot while I tend to, excersise and ride my horse... it's our whole lifestyle.

Her friend (who's Mum went all the way to international showjumping before having her) who is also 3 can jump! My DD does more of a bounce and hold on type thing but loves it...

And not that it's any of your business most of us equestrians are quite poor because they cost a bomb. No frills here I'm afraid..

6 year old swimming, football and beavers
4 year old just swimming

reefedsail · 27/04/2019 13:20

I think at 3, rather than think about specific activities, think about building skills that will lead into future hobbies.

Swimming- leads into competitive swimming/ diving/ synchro/ lifesaving/ anything water based (surfing/ sailing/ rowing etc)

Gymnastics- great base for any sport

Ball based activity- leads into team sports

Dance- leads into ballet/ tap/ modern/ musical theatre etc

Music- leads into, well, music...

Obviously you can't do all of that, so think about which path you might send her down in the future and pick activities that build a base for that.

My 5 year old does swimming, tennis & football.
One at the weekend the other two after school.
I think that's enough for him at this age

MollysMummy2010 · 27/04/2019 16:01

9 yo dd does gymnastics & dance classes out of school and orchestra, choir and recorder at school. Has just stopped swimming lessons after five years as she swims like a fish but is never going to be a club swimmer and she was bored with the lessons so will just swim for fun now. She wants to start violin and has one but is a waiting list for lessons. With homework as well as occasional things like messy church and a library group it’s enough. She is also with a very active childminder two afternoons a week so constantly at the park etc with them.

4 dcs. Aged 14, 12, 9, 6

All four do karate.

All going skiing at local snow centre. Oldest three started snowboarding.

14, 9 and 6 year old go trampolining training for an hour on Saturdays. They aren't enjoying that anymore though so will stop.

12 and 9 year old started skateboarding lessons.

9 and 6 year old have music theory lessons at school.

12 year old has drumming lessons.

6 year old started trumpet.

9 year old has guitar lessons.

Quite a lot written down but they seem to have a lot of leisure time too.

My 8 year old son does ty jitsu and my five year old little princess does balay xx

Cutesbabasmummy · 27/04/2019 18:24

My 4 year old goes to preschool 2 days a week. My parents have him fir 2 days she I have one day with him. We go to playgroup on that day. He has Waterbabies swimming lessons on a Saturday morning at the moment but when they end in NovemberIll out him in mainstream lessons on Friday afternoons. Then I might start him on mixed martial arts on Saturday mornings. He's also already in the waiting list for Beavers even though he can't go until he is 6.

Logoplanter · 27/04/2019 19:02

DS (8) does football, Cubs and swimming lesson.

DD (5) does gymnastics, Rainbows and swimming lesson.

Both are doing All Stars cricket again this summer.

Both occasionally do an after school club (Art, STEM etc) if there is something on for a term which they fancy.

We have also started taking them to the Junior Parkrun on a Sunday morning (weather permitting) which we all enjoy together.

This is more than plenty as they also see grandparents during the week. We'd struggle to fit anymore in. They definitely need down time and time to do their own thing.

dairymilkmonster · 27/04/2019 20:25

DS, 7 does judo, swimming and music lessons. Also chess club snd gardening club after school. He couldn't cope with any more than this.

DS, 3 does nothing! He goes to preschool and that's it. Will start swimming when he starts school.

NeverTwerkNaked · 27/04/2019 20:31

It depends so much on the child! Some love lots of activities, others are homebodies and need plenty of downtime.

I can remember Dd hobbies from when she was 3 and she did : tap, ballet, theatre school, gymnastics and swimming! She loves to be busy now. She is 5 now still does all of them except gymnastics (and that’s is only because I couldn’t keep up the pace!)

Ds age 8 does Cubs, swimming, guitar and drama

DS age 9 does Cubs, swimming, drums and theatre school

Dd13 does theatre school, guides, cello and hockey

I like them to do at least one sport and one “arty” thingy, and swimming is compulsory in my house because we live by the coast and do lots of sailing and kayaking etc

NeverTwerkNaked · 27/04/2019 20:34

Plenty of 3 year olds I know have riding lessons, it’s not that bizarre surely?! we all rode as children and my brother was definitely joining in by age 3

Rarotonga · 27/04/2019 20:40

DS is two and he does a tumble tots class and swimming each week. We also have a farm park membership which we try to use as often as we can.

Mumshappy · 27/04/2019 20:41

Dd8 does ballet, tap and jazz three times a week. She also plays in the school football team. She has violin lessons and is in the school choir.
Dd15 has given up dancing. She needs to do more physical activities. She will be in a local production of a musical this summer so that is keeping her busy.
Ds1 goes to baby bounce and rhyme once a week and tumbletots once a week.

Mumshappy · 27/04/2019 20:43

Just realised dd8 also has swimming once a week. I think shes probably doing too much.

lorisparkle · 27/04/2019 20:46

Mine all have done swimming - I think it is quite a useful life skill

They all tried a musical instrument from about 7 yrs - ds1 and ds3 still do but ds2 stopped

They all joined beavers, then cubs and scouts - I found this really useful, they do a wide range of activities, get to go on sleepovers, meet children from other schools, etc

Ds1 isn't sporty but ds2 and ds3 are. They have tried different sports as I think it is good to try things out. They have done football, cycling, hockey, rugby, triathlon over the years.

I find it hard to get the balance right. Ds3 loves doing lots of different things but then gets tired. You have to follow the child's lead.

Parttimewasteoftime · 27/04/2019 20:49

DS9 Football, Cubs and dodgeball

DS6 Football, Beavers and swimming

AllTheUserNamesAreTaken · 27/04/2019 20:55

DS 5 does multisports and football at his after school clubs and we take him to his swimming lesson on a Sunday morning.

The after school sports clubs are great as it means he can do activities he really enjoys without us struggling to finish work and get him to them, particularly as DS really needs his sleep so is usually in bed for 730/8pm

We also go to a roller disco on a Friday evening every couple of weeks

We’re thinking of trying him at an activity such as karate or beavers one evening after work but not sure yet.

wonkylegs · 27/04/2019 22:38

10 nearly 11yo does swimming, scouts and afterschool football regularly
3yo does swimming

Dancing (class which mixes between ballet, tap and jazz), karate, beavers and swimming for my two - age 6 and 7. Used to do a drama class (which became a bit of a rip off when the owners sold the business and the new guys were nowhere near as good) and gymnastics but they've dropped stuff and started new stuff as they've got older - the deal I have is that I want them to stick something out for the block I've paid for if they're thinking about quitting.

Oh yeah and one does a school recorder club. Painful for the ears.
