I'm currently 22+1 with my first and am really curious to find out what one item has made your life easier/you consider to be the best purchase made for your little ones 😊

Morrck car seat wrap - when older a jumperoo

roley · 18/04/2019 14:30

Another vote for the star wrap... I got one in grey and used it for both DC's so much! Worth every penny

Swaddle gro bags. Basically a sleep sack with lots of zips for newborns. It was used daily and was so handy

For a summer baby, a snooze shade. We used it every day and it meant keeping our daughter out the sun without using a muslin which can raise the temp in the pram. My easier then faffing with an umbrella which can get caught on things, falls around and needs moving to the right place all the bloody time

CharlieandLolaCat · 18/04/2019 16:55

Mine spent the first 6 weeks in bundlers from John Lewis. Loved them. www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-partners-baby-organic-cotton-bunny-bundler-white/p1713650

Stokke folding baby bath
Grobag
Cheeky wipes

Tweedypie · 18/04/2019 17:50

Baby sling carrier thing, years ago when mine were newborn I had the babybjorn, Im sure there's a newer one now, the having your handsfree but still having baby with you was invaluable.
Also not for the baby, but my body pillow from pregnancy, its been replaced several times and still in my bed more than 12 years after my last pregnancy !!!

TheLastPharl · 18/04/2019 18:56

Tuppence and crumble star wraps are brilliant.

Sleeping bags. So much better than using blankets.

countrymousesussex · 18/04/2019 19:03

Perfect prep machine, Mam self-sterilising bottles, Sleepyhead, MyHummy, Snoozeshade, video monitor, blackout blind and curtains, Rockit and car seat adaptors for car.....think those are the top purchases!

Perfect prep machine!
I also got a hauck sit n relax which is a reclined baby chair but waist height- was great to have somewhere I could put her down without bending after my c section

AntiHop · 18/04/2019 19:16

A really decent sling. It's best to go to sling library to try different ones. There's very little choice in the high St shops. I has a beco Gemini which was amazing.

motherofdxughters · 18/04/2019 19:19

A Perfect Prep machine. I couldn't breastfeed past six weeks for medical reasons and DD wasn't used to having to wait for food. We still use it now at 8 months. Bloody wonderful invention. Saves so much time and if you get it on sale and are formula feeding, it works out very cheap in cost per use.

caoraich · 18/04/2019 19:24

Snuzpod. Bought in a panic on day 4 as she screamed the whole time in the moses basket.

I have never got out of bed overnight since, even on nights she's wanted hourly feeds. Dreading her growing out of it!

For me- happy mama tops. Actually look like normal clothes and don't have to faff with multiple layers to feed

Thingywhatsit · 18/04/2019 19:26

Aden &anais bamboo huge muslins- well they were a gift, but still the most used and longest used as at 5 yrs old they are still getting use! Never used for mopping up sick except in an emergency. But they were great - with so many uses, used to cover up if feeding, sunshield in the car , swaddle, light weight blanket for the summer months and even now she refers to them as her summer blanket and sleeps under one in the summer as she doesn’t like to not have a cover on. Oh and they are soooooo soft!!! They took up hardly any room in the changing bag and were always in use

ba03 · 18/04/2019 19:31

Shnuggle bath, grobag sleeping bags, baby bjorn bouncer (2nd hand), playmat, muslins, clip to hang bags off pram handle. 'Your Baby Week by week' book

applesauce1 · 18/04/2019 19:47

Fantastic purchases:

-Amazon Echo - we have them all over the house. In baby's room, I use it for white noise, and for the weather so I can decide what to dress the boy in. In the kitchen, I use it to record my shopping list as I use things up, to set reminders for me, to read me my calendar events. I use them to play baby music playlists for when we're doing floor time, to read me audiobooks when I'm feeding. I know she listens to my conversations, but I don't know how I'd get on without her now. I really make an effort not to be on my phone around our baby and Alexa really really helps with that.

-Ikea LEKA activity centre. I'd been gifted a pricey (£75) baby gym that our baby hated. I was at a weaning class that had random toys out, put him under this simple wooden thing and he absolutely loved it. Went out to buy our own the next day. Was only £20.

-A Gousto/Hello Fresh subscription. When pregnant, I batch cooked to the point that we needed a chest freezer in the garage to contain it all... but I got so bored of the same thing night after night. Recipe boxes meant I was getting interesting food, without having to go to the shops and my husband could totally handle the recipe cards (with Alexa helping with the timings).

-A water bottle with a straw for me! Carry it everywhere and you'll need to stay hydrated if breastfeeding. I bought it for being in labour so I could take easy sips, but was so useful after my awful emcs that went horribly wrong, and is easy to drink from while nursing.

-H&M nursing vest tops. They have inbuilt bralets to contain breast pads. I wear them in place of a bra under normal clothes. Lift up my top, unclip my vest top, but keep my tummy covered.

-increased iCloud storage. So many photos and videos...

-I really recommend going to see the prams you're interested in second hand first. You'll be able to see how they wear. I went to see some iCandys and Eggs and found the leather handles really showed signs of wear as they collapse onto the handle. Ended up buying a silver cross wave (new) as they collapse onto their wheels.

I wish I hadn't bought:
-So many grow bags and swaddling muslins. I exclusively used Velcro swaddles til he was 4 months. Far fewer night wake ups using them, he can't break free or scratch the shit out of his face.

-expensive water wipes in huge supply. I bulk bought on Amazon and still haven't run out nearly 5 months later when his arse would happily take a normal, cheap Aldi wipe.

-so many clothes. People buy you so much and they'll probably only wear things once.

-nasal aspirator. Why the expensive kit of torture when a small finger nail will do?

-loads of nursing hoodies. I just wear normal clothes and lift them up.

Hope this is helpful!

Sock ons- they don’t look the nicest over socks but they do keep them on

Sunspot- we went through about a week when he wouldn’t sleep in it but apart from that it’s been perfect and he’s still in at 5 months where he’d of outgrown a Moses basket months ago

Grosnung- like a small sleeping bag and keeps arms in to swaddle much less stress than blankets

Cellular cotton blankets- have been great for layering in the pram and are breathable

Backpack changing bag- easy to carry and roomy

Calixtine · 18/04/2019 20:13

Baby carrier! We have an Ergobaby 360 and it’s been used almost every day for the past 4 years (3 children). I currently have an 8-week-old who spends half her time in there at the moment it seems!

birdybirdbird · 18/04/2019 20:51

Not a purchase, but I did a huge amount of batch cooking and had 4 weeks worth of dinners in the freezer. If you live in the south and have a Cook shop (frozen naice ready meals), they do a new parent discount card!
A next to the bed crib - they’re all the same really, just pick whichever matches the height of your bed. The Sleepyhead probably worked out as the best value for money in terms of use vs cost. However, if you go this route, bear in mind you’ll have to wean them off of it!
We (luckily) didn’t have a very sicky or poopy baby and ended up with WAAYYY too many blankets, sheets etc etc as people said we’d get through loads of then. I’d get a few and then an amazon prime membership to stock up quickly if you need them.
